i have been using a 6 cyl T5 for quite some time behind a 400+ hp 350 with no problems.....just avoiding clutch dumps. The tranny is actually surprising me by how good its holding up.....and I havent been the easiest on it...

I am in the process of gathering the final parts for my new 350 I am installing in my Z. The specs on the engine are as listed below. - .060 Over Speed Pro Teflon Coated Forged Flat Top Pistons - Roller Comp Cam 224/230 @.050 - Ported Vortec Heads - Professional Products Hurricane Intake Manifold - Edelbrock 600 Carb I plan to install a MasterPower T70 or Borg Warner S400 later, but for now I am just going to bottle the crap out of it!

I used a throttle cable and pedal out of a 1991 Chevy Suburban on my 280zx. I drilled new holes in the firewall for the pedal mount and throttle cable, and it works excellent.

Here is a few pics of the Z. Check out the power steering hose. I drilled out a hydraulic fitting, stuck the original power steering line in it, and had a friend of mine that I work with mig welded it together It doesnt leak a drop. I got my throttle hooked up tonight. One of the guys I work with was nice enough to give me a cable and pedal assembly out of one of his old suburbans he has so I used it. I wont be able to work on the car tomorrow, but I hope to get the clutch bled out and my power steering lines adapted on wednesday.

what i meant was a carb'd 305 with tbi heads. Sorry for the lack of information.

I have also been considering the s400. I really havent decided which turbo to use yet. Thank you for the info on the s400....I will definately be keeping it in mind. I am shooting for 1000 hp with the 383:D

I am going to turbo the 383 I am building for it. But I will probably go ahead and set it up on the 305 just for some fun. I am thinkin I am goin to run a MP T70

Stock TBI 305 out of a 91 Camaro with Holley 600 Carb

I drove the Z down the street tonight. (with air still in the clutch line and a rope for a throttle! ) It ran alright, but i am definately ready for the Turbo'd 383. The block goes in the machine shop next saturday! I hope to be driving the Z by the end of the week.

I started the Z up last night!!!:-D:-D All I need is a driveshaft and a few other odds and ends to have it ready to drive.

Yes, I am going to use the 153 tooth flywheel. The 168 tooth is too large to fit inside the t5 camaro bellhousing. My t5 is 2.75 first gear...so i shouldnt have any problems with 1st.

Just an update on the 11in clutch setup for the t5....It wont work! The t5 bellhousing is too small for the 168 tooth flywheel. I really dont want to go to a 9.125 in. clutch so I might try an s10 bellhousing to see if it will work.

i am going to run a non-W/C T5 in my 280zx. It is out of a 1989 Camaro, 2.8L (14 spline) I am using the 11in diameter clutch from an 80's model astro van. I'll let you know how it works for me.

i am going to use the t5 until it grenades, then get a g-force kit most likely. It probably still wont hold up to the tt power, but hey I'll try anything! I have also thought about using the s400 instead of tt. I am starting to lean towards a single turbo.

Hey everyone. I am currently in the middle of my V8 280zx swap. My plans are to put a running 305 motor in my 79 280zx while i am building a 350 or 383, which will most likely be twin turbo'd. I will then swap the motors out. I have a non world class T5 transmission I am going to use with the 11" clutch setup out of the mid 80's Astro Van. Me and a buddy I work with have fabbed up some motor mounts already. I am leaving for Gulf Shores tomorrow, but when I get back I will post some pics and try my best to keep you updated. Tyler

I have a chance to get a S10 5 speed that was benind a 4.3 dirt cheap. I was wondering how these transmissions compare to T5's out of a Camaro/Firebird? Would I have any problems lining up the shifter with the hole in a 79 280zx if I used the S10 tranny? The transmission will be going behind a stock 5.3 Chevy truck motor. I searched, but did not find anything about S10 trannys...any suggestions or comments would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Hey everyone. I am new to HybridZ, but I have already gained a lot of info from this site. I am currently working on swapping a V8 into a 79 280zx. I have a 350 Vortec block only that I was planning on rebuilding and converting to a 383 stroker for my Z, but after adding up everything I thought I would need, the price was already out of my set budget! Anyway, I was looking around on the internet today and found a complete running 350 out of a 95 Camaro for $850 at a nearby salvage yard! Would it be worth it to dish out the extra $$$ for the added power of the 383 stroker or should I just stick with the great deal I found on the LT1? I am wanting reliability and power....nothing just absolutely insane with power, but still quite a bit. Any suggestions or comments would be greatly appreciated.
