  1. i too love the smell, and nothing has given me the same kick in the ass from torque at the low end as punching it in a diesel
  2. im interested in making a fuel friendly reliable car and the z, being smog exempt, would make it an easier chore. plus the z just looks cool and handles well, with the low-end torque provided by the diesel this would be fun for windy roads.
  3. i have looked into wvo a bit, i'd probably just leave it diesel but having the option for converting in case i want to dive into wvo. the engine is smaller than a sbc so fitting it shouldnt be a problem, its a 2995cc engine inline 5, the tranny mated with it is auto but i know of a 4-speed that would fit from a smaller benz diesel no problem. im not sure of the size of the tranny tho. the benz is a 2ton car and the motor moves it pretty well, id like to see what it could do in a z that weight at least 1500lbs less
  4. hi all, this is out of sheer curiosity for the moment, although if possible i would look into doing this in a few years. has anyone seen or even heard of swapping an om617 from a w123 mercedes diesel into a z? i like the idea of diesel engines because of their huge compression and low end torque, also the possibility of veggie oil convert with gas prices looking to reach $4/gal in less than a year in cali. i know there are diesel swaps from the ld28 blocks but my dad had an 80's benz 300d and that thing ran forever, they are known for going over 500,000 miles. i used the search tool and got no hits, maybe someone has some knowhow with the benz engine?
  5. wow, thanks for the quick responses. i thought i would get more flack posting this on a Z forum. i have looked into both cars and the miata makes a little more sense, i am 6'2" so that might be a probem with a miata but i have heard i would fit snugly yet comfortably. in response to why dont i get a 240z, i would love to, but i dont have a place to work on it thus could not do it justice. i cant afford insurance on a z32 or id wait. the z31 would probably be n/a for simlicity and, again, insurance. ill post my decision soon
  6. Herein lies my dilemma, I am a poor college student who wants a new car. I would love to get a 90’s 300zx but funds won’t allow it so I am debating over what else would suit my fancy. Basically I will be commuting 20-30 min a day over back roads to and from school and would like a car that is economical, reliable, and fun. Both cars are RWD it would definitely be standard transmission (5spd). What are your takes on both cars?
  7. wow i thought the mustang was bad, but what is nissan thinking? http://www.autoblog.com/2006/01/09/nissan-urge-satisfies-at-detroit/
  8. i love mustangs, but i hope this one stays a concept. it would be a cool mod for a mustang owner with time and money, but whoever decided to cross the mustang with the new eclipse should be shot.
  9. hi all. i am a college student who is looking to get into a project car, right now i am considering a smog exempt z because you can do about whatever you want to them and they are fun looking cars. i am mechanically inclined and can get help from my uncle who has built every car under the sun if i run into a big problem. my question is thus: what kind of cost am i looking at to build/restore an early z and what recommendations would you make for someone who has never done this before? thank you for any help you can offer me
  10. im new to this but im pretty sure that in 75 and maybe 76 datsun did put out some 280s with a carb. again i could be wrong
