  1. If thats the motor thats in the quattro-porte then I can tell you it sounds INCREDIBLE. My buddies dad has that and he was giving me a ride in it along with red-lining it while outside the car and WOW! It just SCREAMS and sounds as Italian as it gets.

  2. Sorry if I'm jacking your thread, but how would you go about limiting droop on a 240z with stock suspension components?

This might sound stupid but I used to race on-road r/c cars very competitively for 3 years then switched to off-road. These cars were no more than a foot long and traveled 0-60 in 3 seconds. Everything on the suspension had to be precise. One of the best changes I personally did was limit the car to zero droop on all 4 corners. It might sound stupid to relate an r/c car to a real car, but it really does work. This applies to any part of the suspension. Changing caster affects turn in/out. Toe and Camber makes the same difference as it would on a real car.

So if there is a way I can limit droop with the stock suspension that would be great. Every time I jack up the car I cringe at the amount of droop the car has, it's ridiculous. When I drive my brothers 03 Mini Cooper S I know a good part of the reason why its so responsive is because the droop is limited a pretty good amount from the factory. When entering driveways at a slant the inner rear wheel lifts off the ground about a foot.

  3. It depends on the style of harness. There are some harness's where you can simply remove the top straps from the adjuster, remove the mounting plate, and put it back together with the harness bar in place of the mounting plate.

Other harness's, such as Corbeau, require you to cut the belt, remove the mounting plate, then burn the edges so it isn't all frayed. Then you just wrap it around the bar and tighten it.

  4. Great looking crawler man. Being an ex-r/c hobbyist and having built my own custom "trevo," (custom flat-pan truggy made with the traxxas Revo suspension) and knowing the amount of time it takes to create a chassis, that's some serious amount of work done.

WOOOOOOOOOW great job, why electric? why not nitro?

Electric motors are ideal for crawlers because they have the same maximum torque throughout their entire powerband unlike nitro engines. Also nitro engines rely on moving air for sufficient cooling. When your crawling and moving no more than 5 mph it is very easy to overheat the engine.

  5. Thanks for the reply. I am planning on getting new wheels in about 2-3 weeks. The new 16x8 RB-R's with 225's all around. Once I get those I will also add the quick steering knuckles/bumpsteer spacers. When I get my motor built I will switch to 245's in the rear, yes, with stock fenders and the stock spring perch, and add an LSD.

  6. Hey everyone,

I've been using the search button quite a lot and I have been reading up quite a lot about upgrading the suspension on the S30. Throughout my research all I keep hearing are these coil over conversions with adjustable accessories and all these fancy parts.

Now I'm completely re-doing my suspension. By this coming Wednesday I will have new ball joints, tie rod ends, wheel bearings/seals front and rear, TechnoToy T/C rods w/ 5 degrees of caster, Tokico HP struts, Arizona Z Car springs(180lb's front, 200lb's rear), suspension techniques front/rear swaybars w/ poly bushings, new engine mounts, and finally every single bushing will be swapped out to polyurethane, including the steering coupler. I also have the PDK strut bar in the rear and will eventually have it in the front too. Now, this car will be used mainly for daily driving, with autocross/track days once every month. It also currently has a L28 w/ mild cam, 71' 240z carbs, MSD 6A ignition, 5-speed, and an r-200 rear end(non-lsd).

My question is this. With all of the above, will this car be a threat on the track/autocross comparing to the sports cars out on the market today? I've been so caught up in constantly reading posts of all these fancy pancy suspensions I feel like my suspension will be obsolete.

What do you guys think? Am I just worrying too much? I do realize that the driver also makes all the difference, but I would just like to know what my Z will be like comparing to the new sports cars of today.

    Thanks in advance,

    -Armand

  7. I recently installed a stereo system into my 240z. I put an Alpine head unit with 2-way, 5 1/4" Alpine R speakers in the doors and Infinity Kappa 3-way 6x9's in the back with the MSA speaker box. With only 18watts RMS x 4 its very loud and clear. The bass is perfect, not deep at all, it really hits hard. I'm sure the fatmat in the entire cabin helps a lot too. Plus the tweeters rotate and it does make a slight difference if you point them toward the seats. My doors also almost act like a box, because I have fatmat in every corner on the inside of the doors along with the outside, plus that ebay auto-mat insulation on the backs of the door panels.

If you get 4 really good speakers with 2 ways in front and 3-ways in back with an amp then thats all the sound you'll ever need. Make sure you get a good head unit, adjusting the frequencies, hertz, BBE, treble, bass, etc. etc. makes a world of a difference. It also doesn't hurt to install Fatmat, dynomat, etc. etc..

  8. I pretty much DD my car to school, work, and anywhere on the weekends. I love it. It's super reliable and a blast to drive. I just got power locks and finally finished up my B*TCHIN stereo which makes the ride that much better. Plus I am REALLY glad I put fatmat and fiberglass foam insulation throughout the entire car. You can really tell the way it helps just by how hard the speakers hit. Plus I love how my brother is jealous that my 1971 datsun has no rattling in the cabin whatsoever when his 03 mini cooper s rattles every other place. Even though the struts are shot, the rear springs are coil bound up to 3 springs, and the ride is pretty bad, it's still a blast to drive. But all that will change soon. Complete suspension restoration starts next weekend. :-)

  9. Definitely keep the insulation in the car. Yes its a sports car but ~25lb's isn't going to kill the sports car feel. I recently stripped my interior and put fatmat throughout the entire cabin along with that aluminum backed foam padding off ebay on top of it. Before and after was quite a big difference on the streets and living in So Cal it helped quite a lot with the heat. It's also GREAT in cold weather. The nights here can get pretty cold in some area's, 45-55 degrees this time of year, and when I step in my car at 1 a.m. after its sitting there its almost room temperature. Does a great job of keeping heat/cold out.

As far as which sound deadener to use, I like fatmat, especially since its pretty damn cheap comparing to the competition. There are several that say its not the best, but I guess you get what you pay for. Also definitely get the auto-mat padding off ebay. It's not that great for sound insulation but amazing for heat/cold.

One funny thing was when I was stripping the interior, the previous owner put this heavy foam padding all over the floors/tranny tunnel/firewall, and this stuff was HEAVY. I weighed whatever I took out and I actually saved 6 pounds with all the new deadening/insulation.
