  1. A few points. James you are likely right, but realize low N/A hp does not really apply to John's setup. He will likley be pushing over 300 hp and working up towards 8k rpm. It is the 8k and stroker crank that dictates his lower tolerance for error in the rods. And 8k in a Honda motor puts different acceleration loads on the rod than the stroker he has. But as you pointed out, most people with high hp L6 motors are using preped stock rods and experiencing no problems. I agree with you James - Chase, you should have no problems with a properly preped set of 240 rods. Besides, I doubt with a turbo you will be spending much time over 7k anyways. To much good power is made lower. -Bob Hanvey

what are you putting in for search in ebay? I can't find it under any datusn listing, 280, 280z, 280 supra, 280z supra, 280 toyota, etc.. what am i missing? -bob
  3. John, You obviously have an different belt/pulley setup. What damper did you use, and what is the belt setup? I have been looking at several aftermarket dampers, and am not happy with the stock V-belt. I would actually love to go to a electric water pump for consistency in cooling. And what about the oil pan? Anything fancy there? I'm leaning towards the Arizona Z pan b/c of price and its aluminum. Just probing for new ideas. -Bob
  4. Yea pete, you are the only one impressed! NOT! I looked back through my dyno sheets on my 3.1. Food for thought for you John: I had somewhere over 200 hp from 3800-6900, peak of 225, obviously tapering off as rpm went up. Torque was slight more, and just about as broad. Not quite the power figures you have, but mine doesn't have 13:1 compression either! I think mine is about 9.5:1 maybe slight less. My cylinder pressures are in the 180 range. I had over 200 lbs of torque at the wheels.... Makes for fun acceleration! I'd be really intested in what Jim did to get the low spring pressures. Esp. since I have the hydrualic lifters and want a larger cam, on the order of .500 lift. -Bob
  5. John, So obviously this motor was built to see combat in the OTC. What cylinder head/compression/cam/piston size etc.. are you using? And I assume you are running triple throttle bodies. Fairly potent motor in a 2200 lb car. (slight understatement). -Bob Hanvey
  6. Check out The Datsun Garage and his head pages. Look at the P-79 and P-90 pages. He takes the P-79 and P-90 and tells you what you need to do to get near 10:1 compression. -Bob

Yes, you could, but why? You take the chance of unbalancing the crankshaft,(if done improperly), and you assume they are good welders and will leave no holes in their work,(under the polished part). You can pick up a good used LD28 crank for 150-300, which is about the same cost as offset grinding a L28 crank. Why mess with good enginerring? And no need to go .30 over. You would acutally make it to the same bearing size. -Bob Hanvey
  8. Your 75 engine will bolt right into an 81. Both are L28 L6 motors with the same motor mount points. I think there was some small difference in the intake manifold/injection btw the two. I don't know the difference. They could put the 4 speed in their car,(with the driveshaft from yours as well), but why? If they are switching from an auto, they are much better off finding a good 5 speed from a 78Z-83ZX or rebuilding what they have. I have a 75 engine and trans for sale and was asked if it would would interchange in an 81. Can anyone answer that question? What about the fuel injection and four speed tranny from my 75? Help!
