Guys
I had an opportunity from Borg Warner Turbo Systems to try out a smaller turbo than the current 74mm Garrett I was running.
In order to gain a wider powerband, I stepped down to a 60mm inducer model...The goal was to match my current pump gas rwhp with a much better response time.
I spent a few weeks getting the car ironed out and running on the new turbo, and then getting it to run and drive on E85.
Friday, I got a chance to head up to Sound Performance for the tune. Normally I do all my own tuning on the car, but I dont know alot about E85, so I figured I would give them a shot at it.
I dont have the dyno chart, I tried to scan it several times, but my scanner is being a dick......The video lays it out pretty well though
My previous 555rwhp dyno runs were performed on a dyno jet 210. Sound Performance uses a Mustang Dyno
The car is a F*($ing blast to drive on the street now.....Hats off to SP, everyone was really nice, and they were truley impressed with the car, which is an oddity, due to the fact they had probably 1.5 milliion in cars sitting around up there..
Also got some props from the infamous supra street racer 'marco' He was up there fiddlejacking with his V12 Twin Turbo AMG Benz........

you just gotta be careful about the rumor'd (don't get this particular year z32 tranny cause they have bad synchros) my z32 tranny's out of a non-turbo 91 z32
Dave =]
The transmissions were ALL identical internally in every USDM Z32 (non turbo or TT)
Only in 1997 did Nissan produce a new transmission with fortified hard parts, which even then is still prone to damage
The reason your particular trans is in better shape is that it came out of a non-turbo Z, which typically see significantly less abuse due to the fact non-turbo's werent making anywhere near the power the TT's were.........that and anyone who buys a non turbo Z is a weiner anyways

Never got any pics of the manifold......can you re-send them?

Called and left you a VM. Hit me back
Thanks

What you will want to do is find out what your 'base' boost is.......do this by just connecting the wastegate lines, to a vacuum source. This is going to allow your wastegates to open at their min-obtainable boost.
A good rule of thumb is you can typically squeek 2x the amount of base boost pressure with a boost controller.
If your 'base' boost is only 9psi on the wastegates then you'll want to look into tightening them...or upgrading

I forget if you're built or not, that might be a limiting factor in your turbo choice.......also, is the fuel system up to par with what kind of numbers you're wanting to make?
The possibilities of T4 are limitless, stock power levels to 1000rwhp levels...
I'd say pick out an HP level thats going to satisfy you, and work on finding a turbo thats going to allow that HP level at the height of the turbo's performance, that way you arent sacrificing lag....

I called that one when he said he was switching to something "more streetable" in his other thread. going from a 2mm smaller trim when you're already in 70's on a 2.6 litre engine isn't going to give you any more "street" lol.
SC300 eh? i don't know of any "S300" cars...
S300 = Borg Warner Turbo
-
Nice numbers, but I'm just not sure I could deal with having 150hp @ 4k rpms and 200hp @ 5k rpms..........I thought you were looking for something more streetable?
I dont have any dyno numbers yet on my S300 but its making 18psi by 4100 or so....

regardless of color, print this doc out, it explains what all the wires actually do, and their corresponding pins on the ecu harness....

Im not sure how the shifter setup works in the 240's however the RB25 shifter setup is definitely different than the Z32 shifter setup (this is accomplished by different linkages and tail section)
The reference I made to the trans being the same internally, was meant to concern the actual gears, ratios, synchros, shift forks, etc
-
looks evident by the mph, however I have no idea what he was doing as I was in front the entire time, lol
-
My ♥♥♥♥ is slow....but...
-
IMO the more sophisticated the setup the harder it is to drive cosistently if your going to be a winner since there is no room for error during the brief launch and WOT period. Lots to think about getting right and the rush of the acceleration becomes and addiction.
My 2nd time out in the car with the TH400 setup was a nightmare, I was at the PINKS ALL OUT in St Louis and there was ~20,000 people in the stands.....I looked like a jackass, lol

It actually has the 100 shot on it now. I have yet to see where the stall is at. I will be testing that this weekend.
Mine is setup with an arm button. the nitrous doesn't activate till it sees 100% throttle open. In the video I'm at like 3/4 throttle most of the time once you hear the rpms start to come up. when you hear the rpm really come up is when i went full open. I was really just trying to watch everything as it comes up and really concentrate on how things are supposed to happen. tried to stage and leave on the green but it was just happening all to quick for me so i just let the other guy go and did everything slow I haven't been on the track in like 6 years so i wanted to get comfortable with the car.
This weekend i should be able to stage and launch it like I'm really racing. I will lite my second bulb first then when the opposite lane lites his i go full throttle on the nitrous that should be enough time to get everything hoppin.
I'd still go for the 150 shot.....
I know what you're saying when you're trying to get the 'feel for the car' I looked like a newb MANY times out there trying to get everything adjusted right and figure out how it all works. Theres SO much more going on than just driving up and dumping the clutch......lol
Tip on the burnout, it looked like you were keeping it in 1st gear....get the tires spinning a bit in 1st and click it down to 2nd and let it eat.....
Good luck on getting your bults lit first, sometimes guys just drive straight up in there, especially if your burnout lasts longer....
-
Put a 150 shot on that bish, that'll get that turbo spooled quicker.....the 75 shot on mine was still pretty slow to come up......
My nitrous setup is pretty trick, since I'm running the AEM I just setup a 'to-ground' circuit triggered off an input driven by the transbrake button.......basically the transbrake button 'arms' the system
You can then go into the 'nitrous' map on the AEM and set all the parameters up there. I had mine set to go above 33-3400rpms and any amount of positive manifold pressure. I also had it set to shut off the juice once it saw 18psi or so (i didnt want to launch on the spray) For an additive safeguard I also set it to shut off after it saw less than 90% TPS value

RB25/RB26 and Z32 oil pressure sending units are extremely prone to failure & low readings.
The sending unit completely failed on my 26 setup, it reads 0 all the time now. I put a Defi Oil Pressure gauge on it and it was reading 90psi at 3k rpms, (which is correct)

Allllright booz, that's the idea. A viewpoint that includes looking over the dash and straight down the track would be even better. That way an observer gets a small part of the rush you were getting.
Cool car btw.
Edit: oh, I see you are in Peoria... I lived in East Peoria for awhile when I was a kid... Mom worked for Caterpillar and Dad worked for Westinghouse / WABCO. Lincoln school system, the whole bit. Do they still have the ferry races every year?
Yep, they do 'steamboat days' theres alot that goes on that weekend....

With this you don't need an adapter right? and any converter can be used that could be used with any other t-400??
Damn this is bad timing for me i do need a good tranny for the red car once i finish it but that's not going to be for a while.
You still need a custom converter......the flexplate still uses all nissan bolt patterns (crank and converter sides) so you have to have a converter with the GM output, and the nissan flexplate pattern

$3,000 if someone takes it in the next 7 days.....

I want to put a down payment on a new DD
$3500 takes all above mentioned, I have almost $4500 in it......

Nope - although if you have a choice, go for the NA tranny as there is less chance of it having the crap beaten out of it.
Correct
The only difference in the NA and TT Z32 bell housings are the inner diameter, since you're using an RB bell housing, this is negligible.
-
This has been covered alot in the past....
Theres no need to use the RB26 input shaft
Simply take any Z32 transmission, pull the front bell housing off, and swap on an RB26 bell housing......put it in the car

The TT v12 is the benz........car looks stock on the outside........I dont think he's tinkered with supras for a long time
Regarding the power, I got rid of the TH400 a little while back and went back to 5spd. Its much more fun to drive this way, especially now that the turbo is considerably more responsive
My powerband shifted greatly, I was examining the graphs tonight, here's a comparison
74mm turbo
@ 5100 rpms = 210rwhp/220rwtq
60mm turbo
@ 5100 rpms = 380rwhp/380rwtq
