  1. Howdy all. I've a cam 300/300 duration valve lift 0.453" inlet valve lift 0.451 exhaust Timing inlet open 43btdc closes 77abdc exhaust open 77 bbdc closes 43 atdc Full lift 107 deg atdc inlet btdc exhaust Am I right in thinking that the lift is a little low? Reading the specs it reads like it should be a nice 4-7000rpm grid, or have I missed something!?
  2. yep, forged l28 pistons are common/easy to get hold of, 2.4 not so it seems!
  3. they'd keep me happier revving to 7300rpm ish.
  4. Who should I speak to about some forged pistons for a 240z? Ive been searching the forum and emailed a couple of companies but had no response. Using a 2.4 block, i've e31 and p90 heads. I'd like to keep the e31 as its the correct one for the car. I'm trying to piece together a 'future' proof engine, using the original block. Is it possible to use 240sx forged pistons?
  5. A quick story.... I decided to use my L24 instead of a L28, mainly as I like the fact it's still on its original engine, it ran well with no knocks but always had a little bit of white smoke even when warm, compression results were all good but I knew something wasn't right. I pulled the head off and found this. Looks like a slight leak on between the coolant and bore:unsure: Gasket told the story when looking underneath. Upon close inspection I found on one cylinder cracks/splinters around the spark plug, No worries I thought, I could grind them back so there's no sharp edges/stress points for cracks to start from. Would we agree this is a fair point? I understand that i'd increase the size of the chamber slightly which i'd try to duplicate on the others, good or bad? Next I cut back, hardly removing any meat at all. Once given a wipe over I noticed that the chamber on this pot has been altered... An unmodified chamber 1: the spark plug hole/mount has been cut back 2: the shape isn't the same as others 3: I can feel that the shape isn't smooth and without machine marks the others have. Is is the e31 head off my 1970 240. I'd like to keep/use it however I'm prepared to listen to some wise suggestions. Subject to pressure testing is it ok to go ahead and use it? I can't work out the effects of having a chamber 1 or 2cc larger compared to others. Strange thing is that the rest of the head is untouched, its not had any 'porting' or anything I can see done. I'm also not sure if detonation has been the cause of the problems. Valve sizes are 33/42mm.... I take it that these are the standard size? My plan was to have have hardened seats fitted, new valves/stem seals build engine with; 10.5:1 - 11.0:1 compression ratio Piper 285 grind cam dynamic balance on the crank with ATI harmonic damper +50 bore with new pistons+rings triple 40's nice exhaust 4lb off the fly wheel. full rebuild, obviously not making new history for 240z engines but a nicely thought out fun engine. It did involve this head, I'd like it too still if possible. Failing that has anyone got a e31 head knocking around?
  6. I've got some 15x8 rota grid v's, can't decide if i'm going to fit 205/60's or 215/60's... I need pics to help make my mind up. Might even go for 55 profile
  7. so i've done some digging. Car will be a 2.4, +50 over, piper 286 cam, e31 head, 10.5:1 compression, triple 40's, matched length manifold. dynamic balanced crank with ATI damper. I'm going for a mallory unilite, for ignition 685 or 6853m? How do they compare to the msd 6al's? the 6530 so you can program the ignition curve? For a coil is it worth getting the pro master?
  8. I've a set of new webbers and i'm going to fit a new distributor, am I right in thinking i'd be better off with a mechanical advance? Whats the best option to go for?
  9. Has anyone got a set of forged flattop pistons for sale? Would consider domed too but i'll have to do some measurements before I commit.
  10. The 4x4 brakes just look a little heavy if that makes sense? also I can get wilwood service bits over here when the time comes and a good choice of pads. I just need to work out whether to go for coilovers or something like the TOKICO Advanced Handling pack?
  11. Hi all. This is my first post as I've bought my first 240z. I'm in the UK and i've a nice LHD car coming from CA. To help keep costs down i'm looking at having some parts shipped in the car, I've already got a set of rota grid V's in 15x8. I was looking at the Arizona Z car front brake kit, however is this the best to go for? What suspension do you guys use? I like the look of the Ksport kit as its a complete solution but the spring rates seem about double what they should be? Has anyone used/fitted these? I don't mind getting my welder out. Basically I want' to do my brakes and suspension once and do it right so i'm open to all suggestions! Cheers
