  1. I bought a scanner for the car. I just need it to get here. Hopefully this will point me in the right direction. I am just ready to ride my car.
  2. well coolant is now flowing to the radiator, and the pcm is regulating the fans. However, I guess the rest of the coolant does not get hot enough because they don't kick on.
  3. Gentlemen, I have a 280z with an ls1 and a stand alone wire harness. The computer got the VATS Erased. The car is pretty much complete other than the exhaust stops at the headers, so muffler and all piping is missing. The car runs like a champ when I first start it. It will idle great and rev up just fine. After the car has been running about 10 minutes, it starts idling a little rough, and it dies. The engine is hot, the fans won't turn on, and the thermostat will not open. Well, I am changing the thermostat for a performance one. I know that the fans are wired correctly. I have a relay per fan lead. I know the lead is ground from the PCM. I even tested it by grounding the wire. Anyhow, I thought at first the car was overheating. Now, I am starting to have my doubts. I don't know what else it could be. I am kind of getting frustrated. One of my friends at work said it could be that you are missing the exhaust and you are not getting enough scavenging. Well, I have my doubts about that too. How do open headers cars work then? I don't know what the problem is.
  4. Is there anything special that they have to do to the computer. I just told the guys at Motorsport technology inc to erase vats. Well, I got home plugged it in and guess what.... Same crap... So, I dropped it off at their shop for the second time... I am getting kind of frustrated with them. So is there any special programing that needs to go into the computer? Do you guys know? Could you let me know? I should have gone with Jess. That is what I get for being impatient...
  5. the car does have O2 sensors. Thanks a lot guys. Who do you recommend for the reprogramming?
  6. The PCM has not been programed. My fuel pressure is good. I don't know the actual pressure, but the fuel line went from soft to rock-hard. The computer actually controls the fuel pump. I used the fuel pump that comes with the JCI kit.
  7. Well, I got the engine from a 2002 trans-am. And, I got an after-market wiring harness. I have not had the computer flashed. I thought you were just able to plug it in and play. Anyways, I wired it up and tried to start it. The engine will start, but it will die in a few seconds. So, other than that, I think it could be the alternator voltage regulator. I plugged it in to the batery for a little while and it got hot. I talked to the guys down at Motorsport Technology Inc down here in Houston and they told me how to wire the alternator. But, I would think that the car would be able to run off the battery right? If it is the anti-theft device should the engine turn over? I was a little frustrated and decided to walk away from the project for a while. So, that is kind of were I am. What else would you guys like to know? Let me know and I can provide you with the info. Thanks a lot guys!!! You have given me hope!
  8. Well, I got everything in the car. Did all the wiring and tried to start up the engine. Well, It did start but as soon as it started it died. I have checked everything and I just don't know what to do. Can you guys please help me?

  10. Guys, I have been thinking about doing a little tweaking to the engine. I have an ls1, and I want brute power out of it. I have seen packages ranging from 3000$ to 9000$. What package would you guys recomend and why? I would like a car that has good reliability, as I am sure I am going to scrap my commuter once the z is running. And, I would also like to have a reptile killer (viper, cobra). So, you get my point, I love scary fast cars. I have also looked at superchargers. I am not a turbo man though. Yeah they might be more efficient, blah, blah, blah. But, I like instant throttle response. >
  11. We need a drawing in order to run it through a FEA (finite element analysis) program. We also need to know the material of construction (or asume cheap carbon steel). I would recomend whoever is doing this analysis to keep under the 1x10^6 cycles stress values for fatigue calculations.
  12. Why do you say it would be a burden? I think it would kick ass! Of course, I know that the rear end would feel like you were driving on ice if you are heavy footed. But, what else?

  14. Hey guys, I live in Houston, about 2 miles away from Motorsport technology inc. http://www.motorsporttech.com/ I have read some really good things about their heads. I was surfing through the internet feeding my addiction to power and found them. I am thinking about saving up some $$, and going with a set of heads, and a cam for my LS1. Now, they also have some stroker kits. And....., I really would like to go crazy on this build. If money was not an issue, I would go with the 427 c.i. stroker kit with a nice set of heads and a good cam. So, whatcha guys think? This stuff is expensive!!! Do you think 475-525 crank HP is worth 5k? Now, the 427 option is ridiculously expensive 600hp at only 18k (note the sarcasm). But, how cool would it be to have a 600hp naturally aspirated engine. Anyways, I just want to have a 280z that will stomp vipers. Any, thoughts and suggestions are welcomed! Minotaur
