  1. I have never even driven a S30, and I have one. I drove a Z31 before, not mine though. My DD is a 1998 Audi A4. I feel like I already skipped the youthful stage, got myself a nice cruiser. So my 240 is going to be harsh as hell, and hopefully scary fast. Maybe that will kick me back into the stage of my life where I belong. Still years away though. Body work is about done (finishing tonight) and it's going to be primered hopefully within the month. I envy those of you who have a good running S30

  2. I've searched, but haven't had any luck with finding the answer to my question. I plan on putting tokico hp/illumina shocks with tokico springs on my 240z. I also plan on getting ZG flares, so my question is...what offset would I need to fit 16x7 front wheels and 16x8 rears? I want to be able to fill the flares pretty good without spacing much. Thanks in advance

  3. Bringing this up from the dead. I have the same question. I have a universal steering wheel on it's way. Would a Grant adapter work? Something I can just pick up from the local parts store? Or better yet...a cheap eBay one? Key word Cheap, I just want something in there so I can mock up my guages for when I build my dash. Don't want crooked guages, or the steering wheel blocking them...gotta love the non-adjustability of the 'ole Z's

  4. I'm about a week from ordering my fuel cell, fuel pump, and all new stainless braided lines. Still not sure on which pump to use though. After I get that, I'll wait another 2 weeks and then hopefully get a pair of Wilwood Forged Billet Dynalite Calipers, (or whatever they are...the 4 piston ones) so I can have front brakes (shell convieniently came without the fronts.) while the rears remain drums for a couple weeks longer. After I get that problem out of the way, then I will start the saving for the engine, trans, and such. My worry is when I do get the engine, and when it comes down to the install, are there any wiring worries I should have? Just in the engine area, I plan on running a painless chassis harness

  5. Where did you pickup the engine(s) {for whoever has done a swap} Is there any place that's better than the other. I live in the Boonies in Cali (Sonora, CA) so I can't just go to a shop unless I want to shell out some big bucks for crap. I found www.tokyomotorimports.com to have VERY good prices on their 2jz, only $1400 for a motor, tranny (auto) and all the other jazz, doesn't seem right since the 1jz is $1200 with NO tranny, and the 3sgte swap is over $2g's. Anyway, what are other good, reliable sites?

  6. So I have a shell of a 240z, plan on puting a 2jz in it, and was going to start getting things rolling on it here in a little bit. I had a couple of questions reguarding the fueling aspect. I'm going to put in a fuel cell (not just to be cool, but because I want a super clean look, and the gas door just isn't gonna cut it, so it's being shaved, and because they are safer) I was wondering what size I should get. 12 gallon, 16 gallon, 20 gallon (I was thinking 16 gallon, but only because I'm not sure what kind of mileage to expect) Also, how powerful of a fuel pump I need to get, any brand I should consider. I'm probably going to be under 500hp (crank) for a LONG time, so that's a pretty big factor. What size fuel lines also? Thanks in advance

Are you sure about that? I once failed because I had modified the stock air cleaner housing.

An intercooler only adjusts the temperature of the air coming in, it does not allow more air to be fed into the engine, until you turn up the boost, haha.

  8. My 240z already has the mounts for a chevy v8, but I don't want all that torque down low. That's why I want to go for a turbo 6. I can't go 1jz because I want this to be legal in CA, 2jz is a bit expensive if I went with the 6speed, the engine by itself is doable, but the engine tranny package is rediculous. 7mgte is lookin pretty good right now. If you decide to go turbo v8 Clifton, feel free to make your 7mgte donation to me haha

  9. The 1jz never came to the states did it? That would be my choice. 2jz is still pretty pricey. That's why I'm looking into the 7mgte. Parts EVERYWHERE, I can pick up a whole parts car with around 70k miles for only $1k, yup, definately in my ball park...although I'm putting a Pioneer AVIC-D3 in my A4, hmmm, there was my parts car, DOH!

  10. Screw the rear drive crap, although it is a huge pain in the ass there really needs to be more people getting z's to be awd.Just my .02 but i guarantee some serious respect(at least from me) if you make an awd z

No thanks, that's why I'm building a Z, AWD is great, I have an Audi A4 Quattro, but sometimes, it just doesn't cut it when you want to just go out and have fun. No in a logical thinking point about performance, an AWD Z would be sick, launch better, handle better

  11. The reason why I was curious about the 3sgte was because I had a 91' Celica GT-S and the motor was on it's way out, and the logical engine option was the 3sgte. However, it's not legal, and it brought some thinking, the All-Trac version has the motor, and it's legal, brought to the US and everything. But it's AWD, does that make a difference in legality? My car is still in the being built stage, been out of DMV computers for years, so it will have to be inspected and everything. I could probably just get my mom to sign off on it (she works at the DMV) so getting it past that stage wouldn't be hard. Anyways, from the way it's been put...

    1) The 3sgte was introduced to the US in the MR2 and Toyota Celica All-Trac

    2) Those cars are much newer (1990-1993?)

    3) I guarantee you they had much more smog stuff than a 71 Z

Well, I'll look more into it, see what it would take to get the engine and drivetrain in...think an AWD gearbox with the FWD part blocked off? I hear that's what the Celica guys do. Thanks

  12. Since the SR20det isn't allowed here in this lovely state, what about the 3sgte from Toyota? It came in the MR2's, can be built up to around 800hp (many of them have been, and even Toyota was racing their Supra with the 3sgte because of the size to power ratio) and it's rated 200hp stock for the first gen. It's also close to cost of a sr20det.

  13. I would guess aswell, that the newer motor would be better on fuel, a big plus with the rising prices these days. Has anyone done a LPG or Propane conversion, i heard these days you can get almost as much power, but much better fuel economy.

Propane can make much more power than Gas since it has an octane rating of 110 or so, and since it's presurized, you don't need a fuel pump. And if you take your car off-roading, or find it upsidedown...then it will STILL be running.
