  1. That looks good. Can't wait to see it installed. I am only holding off to hear some experiences of others before I buy. Here is a good link on sound deadening comparisons. This guy sets aside all the hype and does a fairly balanced comparison. http://www.sounddeadenershowdown.com/
  2. I am leaning toward Datsun Spirit for the same reasons you ordered from them. I got an email from Eji this morning, and my last question before ordering is regarding the fit of the kit. I have heard from other sources that installation requires a significant amount of cutting and cajoling. Waiting to hear from Eji if that is true for their kit as well. I will end up having to cut a bit anyway as my roll bar attaches to my wheel wells. I haven't decided yet how I want to do that, either cut around it or install over the mounts to hide them. I have also installed some dynamat/brown bread for sound deadening. I am thinking about adding more material called "Ensolite" from http://www.raamaudio.com/cgi-bin/index.cgi?p=pr. Anyone else used their stuff? Sounds like it cuts out the low frequency noise (tire noise, diff noise, my incredibly loud electric fuel pump, etc.) that dynamat-like products don't.
  3. Bill, I have been looking at the 13 piece kit from Z Specialties: http://www.datsunstore.com/product_info.php/cPath/1_19/products_id/574 So is the kit you are getting from Datsun Spirit include all those pieces? What was the total price on the Datsu Spriit kit?
  4. I did. Unfortunately that is not how it worked out for me. My car, which hadn't been registered for 14 years, had never been non-oped, so they charged me $383 in back registration fees to register it. I asked them about the five year deal, and the clerk said she had no idea what I was talking about. Oh well. The Z is on the road. I suppose it could have been worse.
  5. So, how did this work out? I just picked up my Z from the shop two days ago. It was last registered in 1994. I went to the DMV yesterday to register it, but they were paving the parking lot, so they were closed. Nice. On the way home, you guessed it, I got pulled over. The helpful officer told me that the car had, in fact, not been registered since 1994, and had never been non-op'ed, so I will have to pay 14 years in back registration fees. That doesn't sound good. He also told me that if he hadn't believed my story he would have impounded the car on the spot. I have heard the 5-year thing from someone else as well. Has anyone ever actually been through that with the California DMV? Thanks in advance for any advice.
  6. DUH! I can't believe I never thought about this. I guess now I have a place I can put a sub in my Z!
  7. I am a Network Infrastructure & Client/Server Manager. Basically a fancy title for an old computer nerd.
  8. No pics, but in the late 80's my wife wrecked my beautiful blue 260z when the cat she had in the car with her got wrapped up around her feet. She pulled over to the curb to get the cat, and let her foot off the brake. She ROLLED into a 72 Corvette that had just gotten out of the shop from a previous accident. $3000 in damage to my Z, $7500 to the Corvette. The vette owner literally cried when he saw it. Almost two years ago I got hit by an 18 wheeler in my 90 300zx. My fault. I didn't see his signal and tried to pass him on the right. When I saw he was turning I tried to stop and back up, but too late, got nailed in the left fender by his rear wheels. Was shoved into the curb and destroyed my passenger side suspension and beautiful 350z wheels. It was 6 months before I could bare to face fixing it. Once I got it back on the road it wasn't two weeks before I punched it a little too hard in a turn, lost the rear end, and nailed a curb with the right rear tire, and wrenched my lower control arm. That was a yet another humbling experience. I sold the ZX last month and picked up my 4th S30 in 20 years. This one I promise to be more careful with (fingers crossed).
  9. I am partial to Monterey/Carmel on the central coast. My wife and I lived there for 5 years in the late 80's, had a beautiful blue 260z and no kids at the time. It was glorious. Highway 1 between Monterey and Big Sur is where many a car/motorcycle commercial have been filmed. One of the most beautiful places on earth. We now live on the edge of the central vallye, hotter than hell, and more kids than would fit in a 2+2. Oh well. My .02 woth. --Mark
  10. I doubt he would shrug it off so quickly if it were his car.
