  1. If the new camaros you mention are like the ones we now have in California, then they're geared to go 170. What was wrong with using crown victorias?!? 8)
  2. Hello all, I've got a question about my MSD distributer. How do I know what RPM all my timing should come in on my 327? The stock springs on the dizzy has it all coming in by 4,000 rpms, but there are lighter spring combos to bring this down to 3,800, 3,200, or 2,400 if you want. Any recommendations? Any advantages or drawbacks to timing coming in earlier? I thought I'd ask before I do some test runs as I'd like to understand this a little better first. Thanks! 327, 9.5:1 comp T5 transmission performer RPM heads Comp XE-268H cam super victor-style manifold Holley 650 DP Hooker blockhugger headers
  3. If you saw the movie Mad Max or the Road Warrior, that switch'll look familiar. I got it to activate a nitrous system. Bastaad525 nailed it's original use, though.
  4. I think he meant the '79 280ZX 2+2 4 speed
  5. Thanks all, I just got back from the painter and if all goes well I'll be there in Stockton tomorrow. I can't wait to get it back - one color looks so much better than four!
  6. Looking to spend $150k? You could buy a new Ferrari, or.... http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2427821312&category=26428 Then again there's upkeep, which probably isn't too much more than the Ferrari.
  7. Thanks for the article, unorthodox but very practical!
  8. Not for me, but maybe you'll want one: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2427834656&category=26428
  9. Thanks everyone. I'm currently running KYB's in the rear coilovers, maybe I'll start with some adjustable konis and see if the bottoming is curbed without having to put them on the stiffest setting. If the mid setting does it, I'll leave it as is but if I do have to crank 'em up, I'll get stiffer springs too.
  10. Thanks, that is the info I needed. My car will bottom out under hard cornering/big bumps only on the left rear side - I wanted to know if adjustable struts would get rid of this problem or if going from a 200 poud to a 250 pound rear spring would be the way to go(I know the latter makes better sense, but I thought I'd ask about the adjustable struts too since I've never owned them).
  11. Here's a few perspectives: http://www.network54.com/Hide/Forum/thread?forumid=163500&messageid=1057981829&lp=1058023108 http://www.clubhotrod.com/t250.html http://www.prestage.com/Message+Boards/Default.aspx?Action=ShowPost&PostID=3960
  12. So are you saying that you'd be able to push on the fender and the suspension will move more on the soft setting than on the stiff setting, say like the difference between soft and stiff springs? I figured they would have the same travel, just wasn't sure if the stiff setting acted similar to stiffer springs or not. Thanks
  13. Do adjustable struts like toks or konis limit suspension travel(i.e. on the firmest setting, do they keep the springs from compressing as far)? Thanks
  14. My Z is being painted but should be done no later than mid-next week. Email me if you want a ride, as you may benefit from seeing how a 327 feels in a Z. You could also use a 283 crank to make a short-stroke 302.
  15. I've lived in different parts of Sac over the last few years, now I'm in a loft in Oak Park. I haven't heard "the king of all cream" but I have been known to wear a mexican wrestling mask on occasion. Maybe I'll see you friday at the Stockton get-together if my paint job is finished.
  16. Lots of personal touches Tim, looking good! However long it takes, it'll be worth it.
  17. Much appreciated for the comments and for taking the legwork out my hose search, Pete. Thanks Jon, the strut brace clearance you mentioned is one of those optical illusions created by the photo. With more time to test the new manifold I've noticed the biggest increases at highway speeds, where it really seems to breathe better now. The car is more manageable down low without the neck-snap that my RPM manifold had. My u-joints will appreciate the swap, and the new power curve ramps up nicely to redline. Anyone thinking of a single plane might want to consider one of these super victor knock-offs by power plus, only $180 polished.
  18. My Z has a T5 tranny, nitrous kit still laying around but here's a pic w/ the switch pushed into the boot:
  19. Thank you both! Dan: I'll be able to make it to Stockton if the Z's out of paint jail by then. Tim: I like your ideas, I need a better hose and that K&N lid top would be the way to go. So far my plans for a winterized airbox work with of a flat lid, I'm going to need to do some re-thinking.
  20. Thanks Grumpyvette for your single-plane manifold logic, you were 100% correct about how well they perform in a lightweight Z. Here's one for you, Auxiliary :
  21. I pulled up to Kragans today for a few things and a red supercharged streetrod was just leaving, so I thought I'd follow along for a bit to have a better look and to see if it was (yep) the same one I had raced about six months back. We both are now on a one way street side-by-side at 35 mph with no traffic and we hit it. Despite his rod having ultra-fat tires, all I can see is his car fishtailing in my rear-view mirror as I pull away. The light ahead is red so I slow down and we have a moment to talk. "The car is useless on the street without drag tires," he said. He asked if it my Z had a V8 and so on, I told him his car was really cool and split back to Kragans. A '47 is what I think the clerk said it was, big block ford with 872 horsies. Last time we raced was from a stop light, same results. He said he went through all four gears smoking them trying to catch up. What a sound that thing made!! For me, a great lesson about power and pavement.
  22. Around these parts, Don Manzo is pulling 11's with his 383 240Z with ease, and he's (only) got a 230/480 cam - which appears to go really well with his AFR heads. Maybe this is a possible option for you. Here's a sample build from Ryans stroker website: BTW, even if you only go with a 100 shot of nitrous, you'll still realistically be able to beat almost anything out on the road. And, if you find a car out there that can beat a Z with a V8 on nitrous, they deserve some respect. Good luck!
  23. Great Job Strotter, thanks for taking the time to dig into this story and bringing us into the light! I found the space daily article on NASA news, which I knew wasn't the official NASA site but they do(usually!) post good information on NASA-related events. Davy, your BS-detector was right!
  24. "To ensure that Manek's story does not sound like a fairy tale, there are an array of doctors from the Health Care International Multitherapy Institute and the Jain Doctors Association who have been monitoring his health from two days before the fast started, which will last up to February 15 to complete 411 days." I didn't realize he'd gone longer than 130 days - wow.
