  1. Me and one of my buds from work really want to attend Z-Con but can't get away till friday afternoon because of our work schedule. :-( My 240Z is still in pieces so I'll only be a spectator this time. Where will everyone be at around 6:00 pm? According to the itenerary, the banquette and award ceremony starts at 7:00pm and lasts till 10:00. I was hoping to get to see some awesome old school Z's and take a crap load of pics! Where is the award ceremony going to be at? The ZCon09 web site is vague at best!

  2. I'm pretty close to just doing it in the POR-15 with their Chassis Black top coat. It'd be sooo purdy with a matching silver engine bay though! I've already chromed my valve cover and and a few other chromed/ pollished dress up bits are on the way. I want to be a show worthy engine bay even though I fully intend to drive the wheels off it!:flamedevi

Here's a pic of one I like but can't verify if its done with POR15 or a regular paint top coat. 45798026.jpg

  3. What is the best point on the motor to secure the chain to when removing it from the car? None of my manuals specifically say! This is the first engine I've pulled and I rather ask a really stupid question than break or otherwize damage something!

  4. I was just curious if it could all be removed as a single unit as it all needs to come out. The tranny, belly pan, and engine bay need paint/ POR-15, the suspention pieces powder coated and rebushed, and new engine needs to be installed.

Getting help that'll show up when they say they will (if at all) is pretty tough so for the most part this will all be a one man show! I don't trust myself lowering an engine with a hoist with out someone there to steady the engine and guide things into place. Call me over cautious.

  5. Can the engine, tranny, and front suspention be removed by unbolting the tranny mount and front crossmember and by using a lift, just raise the body up and roll the engine tranny and front wheels off to the side? I've seen it done on newer imports, why not a Z? Seems like it'd be a lot quicker and less risk of damaging bodywork than by using an engine hoist.

  6. I've been procrastinating like crazy with the updated pics but here are a few. The weather sucked so the lighting wasn't the best but I still think you can get an idea of how kick ass the paint scheme turned out. Got my mags polished up and bolted on too! Still waiting on some 3 wing knock off center caps though. Let me know what you guys think.

  7. If someone wants to send me a Subaru STi 27 spline R180 diff and the CV shafts I'll draw up and have made side shafts that allow this diff to be bolted to the stock 240Z halfshafts. It may take a few months but you'll get your diff and CV shafts back along with a set of the new side axles.

I would prefer the mechanical LSDs from the 2004 through 2006 models.

Off the top of your head, how much would it run to have a set of these side shafts made? Would it be a new piece that you could fab from your drawings or would it be spliced together from the old side shafts and new cv's?

  8. I've been looking for an R180 out of a Subaru WRX Sti to put into my '71 240Z. They are fairly reasonably priced and come with 3.9 gears and are LSD. I've searched here as well as the subi forums and the 510 forums but I can't seem to find a definitive answer if these can be modified to fit in the early 240Z's. Has anyone here sucessfully done the swap??? What all is involved to make this work? Details please!

  9. I got a set of the classic 5 slot mag rims that came extra with my '71 240Z when I bought it and it had the stock rims on it. I got them all pollished up and got new tires and went ahead and tried to install them. The problem is the studs don't protrude but 1/8-1/4" from the outter face of the wheel and the stock lugnuts are barely engaging only a few threads. I am assuming these wheels are the same ones that come from MSA. Are they supposed to use different lug nuts?

  10. Black Dragon does not have them for any 240Z!

MatMan: if you have the single strut type for the early 240Z, they can fetch a pretty penny.

MSA has them (1) for $251 and change. A little expensive in my book for a simple gas strut! The one I mentioned earlier does the job for around $25. After more investigation it looks like the early 240's had only one strut that's about twice as stiff as the dual struts. I thought mine was stuck but just wasn't pushing hard enough on it. Sand, primer, paint, install, and it's good as new.

Texas300: if you want to keep it original www.lstechnologies.ca rebuilds them and come highly reccomended by the guys on classiczcars forum. If you just want something that works use the AC Delco one I mentioned earlier.

FYI: the dual struts can be used but you have to drill mounting holes in the other side and use t-nuts on the inside.
