  1. like I said, never messed with the valve system before.
  2. When you have two cylinders (both exhaust im surE) #2 and #6; when they rattle, explained by a crack-head (literally) ex-drag racer (reason why he's an ex drag racer ) --- Anyway, kinda gives you the idea why i speculate the ease sound of this . . . . He said (obviously there is noise there or else this post wouldn't start this way) that I needed to tighten down the rocker arms and the valves ought to straighten out and quit rattling. how can I tell to be sure that if I tighten it down a little would be sufficient, or how much to tighten down at all??? Does it make sounds if its too tight? If it goes too tight, would it break the rocker arm ? I've never messed with this part of a motor before so I'm unexperienced with many questions because I hate to make mistakes. ESP when I depend on this to live! haaha. I've asked friends about running the car w/o the valve cover to get it right by just tightening ti (the rocker arms) down without wasting the VC gasket (because i never set the VC back on) . . . is this a smart idea, or would the compression even work right?
  3. http://www.tamparacing.com/forums/vbgarage.php?do=getimage&id=12339 the stock L28E I'm sure many of you have seen this bad boy too many times. Appreciate the ideas for items, been trying those names on google and getting good results; really need the driver side door more so than the passenger atm; it's got a nasty wedge from an accident before me owning the car and it's out of my ability to fix, so might as well replace it.
  4. Stock Rocket, MWAHAHA. (lol)
  5. Both! I need stuff too like doors; seats, carpet. Especially doors; the idiot who owned the car before I did destroyed the interior as far aas the carpet and the doors. i'll get a picture up here tomorrow so everyone can see my $500 deal. lol But i'd literally like a good place for both stock and performance;
  6. Yeah i just bought an s130; and am excited; Loved these ZX's for a long time; got it for $500 in driveable condition. my rear knocks once in a while, and my rocker arms on 2nd and 6th cylinder are rattling ; so i gotta get to working on them but dont have the tools. Right now I baby it with the condition, but this baby sure does roar! getting the L28ET manifold and buying a 350 on the side to get parts for here or there to swap it in there after a while; So i've looked online and parts are kinda limited for these things . . . where can I go to look at some genuine 280Z/ZX cert parts?
  7. Would I find the range in the datsun 280zx repair manual, or would i have to go to my local library and whip out the big, straight from the manufacturer, 2000pg book? (which those are useful as all get go) -- it makes sense what you mean concerning the pressure sending unit. the sound is a clicking sound; that is repetetive; but honestly if I cruise at at a low-ER RPM like 2000 or so (say 5th gear in 35-40) it is quiet, no real rattling is apparent. but i'd have to keep my speed consistent. any increase in speed will cause the rattling to be apparent. Also; Y-PIPE from the header; the gasket you can see is blown to peices (which you can actually see the gasket peices poking out of the connection) which I ordered today for a small 1.78 cents but i'm going to try replacing the gasket and rebolt it back together and hope for the best. I contribute that to the most noise, but with an ear over the valve cover you can hear the rattling
  8. So, when does questioning the oil gauge come into play? I just bought a 1983 280ZX last wednesday (5.3.2007) and this baby is a beast as it is. Everything seemed fine when I bought the car, it is a resto project eventually going to a L28ET setup; but I'm having some issues I could use advice on. L28E ; Borg Warner T5; haven't check what Diff is in this. My Oil Pressure Gauge can sometimes show to be erratic; going >>below<< 40lbs driving sometimes almost to no pressure at all and when i throw it into neutral it will go back up to about 60lbs. Where do you question the ability for the gauge to work correctly and where do you draw the line to find out if the oil pump is actually failing under these conditions? I'm mechanically inclined, but i have not rebuilt a motor. I've done just about anything else; aside from tranny work and diff work. There's a rattle on my 2nd and 6th cylinders; which are exhaust cylinders; my (2nd = 2nd fire 6th = 1st fire) ; an ex-drag racer told me that if I tighten down those rocker-arms that the noise should quit and i will get a little bit of compression back into those cylinders. How can I check if they need to be tightened down? and How can I check to see if my oil pressure gauge is working; and if so, why my oil pump is not pumping under pressure in gears but seems to go back up to about 60 in neutral.
