  1. im not worried about the wiring because i'm going to build my own harness for the whole car. I have the skills to do that, and i will be running speedhut gauges anyway so that will be removed. the main concern that i have is the bolting up issue. so in summary, from what we have gathered so far, the dash mounting points are the same, but the wiring and heater stuff is different. im building the car from the ground up and everything is being changed or modified so that it will be a modernized classic with an rb25 in it. i just dont want to have to weld or custom make brackets to make the dash. i purchased an uncracked 280 dash for a pretty good deal and just would like to get the knowledge you all have to offer on the differences between 240, 260 and 280 z's. i have plenty of car experience but im just new to this scene, as i got thrown into it from the volkswagen and audi life. thank you all so far, danny
  2. Im not worried about the wiring as much as I am the physical bolt in of the dash. Ill be making my own wiring harness for.... everything. I just want to know the differences between the two and such. Thank you, Danny
  3. I actually read your post and for a second I found that hard to believe, but then I realized that it is actually a feasible statement because the ecu on an older car will operate almost entirely on a 5v reference and the gauges will work on a 12v. But your auto guy is incorrect, it is not the voltage being pulled through the ecu that is killing your computer its the amperage. Your computer has termination resistors inside of it that help prevent voltage spikes from killing it as well as reduce the 12v inputs and outputs down to 5v. When 12v is attempted to be pulled from your gauge and pcm, those termination resistors are fighting the amperage being pulled and getting very very hot. And in turn frying your computer. So to sum it up, its not the voltage killing everything, its the amperage But unfortunately that isnt what I was hoping for in this post. I would really like to know part numbers for the autometer gauges and maybe some pictures, and I guess some part numbers and pictures for the alternate; the speedhut gauges. Thank you, Danny
  4. Hello everyone! I was just wondering if you all could help me with some part numbers for the autometer gauges. I didn't find anything that directly answered the question at hand and was hoping maybe someone can answer in an organized manner which should help everybody out. I have a 72 240z and im swapping a series 2 rb25 into it. Ill be utilizing a 3.54 r200. I would like all the gauges in the dash to be replaced with white autometer ones and I would like the useless clock to be replaced with a boost gauge. If anyone could help me with this I would greatly appreciate it, and if this has been answered somewhere else please just kindly pass the info on because I tried and did not find much (granted I am on my cell and internet is slow) Thank you, Danny
  5. Alrighty everybody, I've done a fair bit of research into this topic and I can't find much of anything. I have a 72 240 and I can find a non cracked dash with ease for a 280 apparently and if it's possible to do the swap I think I would like to get a 280 dash. So, I ask all of you if its possible to do this swap and what the major differences are. Danny
