  1. i think the only issue with the lt1's and boost are people taking it higher than 6-7 psi without forged internals and lowereing the compression ratio..my girlfriends 300tt is running 15psi of boost and only putting down around 350 whp...im sure the lt1 with 15 psi would be putting down way more than that...probably more than 650whp....
  2. 80lt1:just gotta say thats a beautiful 280zx...well done...
  3. if you look up golen engines,i believe they have pistons..they build and sell low comp short and long blocks for lt1..i still think its a 4 speed auto..to get you target hp range your gonna have to go low compression and forced induction and run between 11-14 psi..in the end its your call..just giving my opinion...
  4. now would probably be the time to add low compression pistons..unless you dont mind tearing it all back apart later..i think the rear mount setup would be very nice..i believe sts sells a universal one for $2900.00 good luck with the project..btw i didnt know the auto tranny came in a six speed in the camaro..might want to check into that...pretty sure only t56 maual and automatic 4 speed....jake....
  5. are we talkin s30??or maybe by your user name a z31 or z32??have you tried criagslist??
  6. that guy must crap gold nuggets...this guy must not realize that you dont get all your money back out of your restoration...plus he said it should be part of a collection...sounds like a sales pitch to me...a true collector would go for an unmolested s30...have fun getting rid of that for 45k....
  7. i dont really see a down side to the vg. cheap, easy to find parts for.jim wolf performance packages make it fairly cheap and easy to get 400 crank hp.my girl friend has the vg30dett in her z32.really nice motor.whatever you decide take a look at jazzproparts.com they seem like a decent place to get motors from.and they have free shipping..you can also get the rb26dett engine with the rb25 rwd trans.they have those as package deals..the sr20det is $1900.00 the rb26dett with rwd trans is $4200.00...the rb26dett with awd trans is $3400.00...and the vg30dett is $2200.00....i would try to steer away from ebay unless you have no other choice....there are other more reputable places to choose from...
  8. yeah hes aware of the costs involved.your going to spend that much on any engine you throw in there.he just needs actual measurements and weights.....so far i came up with the sr20det weighing in at 490lbs with motor and tranny .. vg30dett motor weighing in at 440 lbs and the tranny at 120lbs for a total of 560lbs...
  9. yes he probably meant the complete build costing that much. and i thought you were talking s30 here...i dont have measurements but both seem like they would be a really tight fit.there are topics on weight.search and you should find.have you ever thought of an sr20det.lighter and more compact..just a suggestion..good luck with the wife not finding out..just tell her the car stork just left a new engine on your door step...have fun..
  10. the vg30 is doable.there appears to be plenty of room in there for it.you will have to fab your own mounts, then you have to worry about dual exhaust manifolds and steering shaft clearances.and if you want to run larger turbos you will have to notch you frame.you will have to add in another steering shaft joint.the rb26 is the route most taken.there are already engine mount kits and the swap has been more well documented.and the rb26 has such a beautiful sound. amorfin is right.unless you have a fat wallet, you can forget about awd...whatever route you decide, good luck...
  11. do any of you guys know of anybody that is running a single turbo setup on a sbc in their z...just wanted to see what it looked like..
  12. im guessing not, since they are different head designs...

i believe it said bmw, but i could be wrong
  14. just curious what pick n pull ill find parts for the sr20det in the us.
  15. to be honest i dont know exactly what engine would be best for my 240z,so im just doing my homework and alot of reading.what do you do when you need a replacement part for the sr20det?does anybody know what kind of quarter mile times you would get from 400 rwhp from an sr20det? and is 400 rwhp on that motor still a good daily driver in a hot climate? and besides the wiring and plumbing, what is the hardest part of the swap? i know where i can find the motor mounts, but how hard is it to fabricate a trans mount? anything will help guys.thanks....jake...
