  1. As for most of us, we only have time to work on the Z on weekends. That means, we'd need to protect the bare metal from rusting after we strip off the paint, tar, whatever for months or years before completing the restoration. I know Metal Ready from POR-15 etches the metal and coats it with a layer of zinc phosphate. But how long does it last to offer good enough protection against rust? Having the shell primered for a long time isn't that great of an idea either since the primer is porous and moisture can get in to cause rust as well. Is there any other good way to keep it at bare metal while one completes what is necessary to go into the chassis and body, when we know for sure that the entire body work can last for a long time? The pic below shows a full weld-in cage and seems like the Z has been stripped out of its paint completely. I wonder how long has it been sitting naked? Thanks, Guycali
  2. Chris, What do you measure on the car to determine if the body & chassis are straight? Thanks for the info. -Guycali
  3. Talk about 4x4 Z's... Here are some pics I took at the "Z by the Bay" on 8/4/02 in Fremon, CA. of a guy with a 4x4 Z. He said he gets so many girls in bikini asking for a ride in it and he had to "help" them up. Good job! http://pesto.csc.calpoly.edu/~whsu/zbythebay.htm -Guycali
  4. Hi Joe, That's a great idea. I live in Pittsburg and will be getting my very own first 240Z this Saturday. The clutch doesn't engage now so that'll be the first thing to fix. I'm attending the arc welding class at Los Medanos College this fall. Maybe I can use the tools and the shop to help build a rotisserie. It'd be cool to meet fellow Z enthusiasts and trade ideas or techniques. I'm an amateur at car restoration so more knowledge the merrier. Cheers, Wilbur
  5. Bill, I've been following your discussion both here and dsmtalk.com and am fascinated by the 4G63/64 swap. I haven't seen it discussed here but will this transversed Mitsubishi engine fit easily in a 240Z, it being longer than wider for the engine bay? Also, do you think it's possible to use the entire drivetrain of a GSX (awd, 1G or 2G?) in a Z? If not, how does one convert the fwd of a Mitsubishi motor to rwd? I also read it somewhere that a Supra six speed tranny can be mated to 4G63 with a custom bellhousing. Will that work in conjunction with awd drivetrain? Thanks for your help. -Guycali
  6. Ever heard of "Atmospheric Supercharging"? Well, this guy claimed he had discovered the secret of success of BRE's triumph with 240Z, Atmospheric Supercharging. Is there really such a thing? Have you ever heard of it in any form or shape? Atmospheric Supercharging -Guycali
