  1. Well I've managed to open up my schedule enough that I can make a trip up to San Jose to pick up a car I like. Problem is, I really don't know anyone up there that is familiar with Z's. I called up zcargarage, they seemed pretty nice, but they are booked for a few weeks and they said they would take a look if I could leave the car overnight and pick it up the next day, which I cant really do. So, if anyone around there can come take a look at the car or if you know a good mechanic, PLEASE let me know.
  2. Well I got on the phone with the guy, he basically said the body wasnt in great shape with rust in the usual places, and it wasnt licensed for the street. The car has been sitting for a few years now, and he mentioned something about not having an oil something and he would cool the car down every 15 minutes with a garden hose. Said it wouldn't be a very good everyday car. But he is asking 2500. You guys think thats worth it?
  3. The add reads as following 1971 240Z, Auto-cross car, race prepped, L-28 W/E3100 head, RA-Jay turbo W/600 Holly, Mallory Dist + MSD Ign W/spark retard & Adj. Boost, roll bar, ZX 5spd, R-200 Diff. Now can anyone explain to me what an E3100 head is? Cannot find it anywhere. Also, RA-Jay turbo means that it is used for motorcycles right?, which i know would generate boost quickly but how would this be for a daily driver and reliability (must be fun on the street) How much would this sell for (didnt list an asking price)? How much would it have cost him to build? Its also carbed which worries me..
  4. regardless of the L I will see a significant increase in torque if i use the LD28 crank?
  5. Alright, so I guess I will upgrade my T3 after I get my turbo setup running. On a more offtopic subject, how would a stroker be affected by a turbo? I was considering putting in a LD28 stroker for the extra torque which is .1L bigger but I don't know how much of a difference it would have performance wise. Would .1 really be a significant upgrade?
  6. Well my plan now is to run a turbo straight 6 (as opposed to n/a LT1) and Im having trouble deciding which turbo is right for me. I am planning for 300hp. I have recently been reading about holsets here and it got me to thinking if it would be a better idea to switch out the stock T3 and add a Holset HY35 or something similar. Here is where I start to sound dumb: I am getting mixed info on what a larger turbo would result it. If I were to run both these turbos at 15psi, would the T3 perform the same as a larger turbo, or would the larger turbo be able to displace more air and add more HP at the same psi? Also (most importantly), how does a larger turbo impact strain on the engine? Would a large turbo be able to reach a greater HP at a lesser psi and put less strain on the engine? Or would it not make a difference as the same amount of air will be displaced...If I could reach the same HP and not put as much strain on the engine than with the stock T3 than I would rather buy a larger one.
  7. Ive been looking around where I live (socal) for something with 280zx turbo engine, and I cant find anything! (well, the very few I have found are over priced) Should I be looking to get a doner or should i look for just the engine (junkyard?) ? If Im supposed to get one from a junkyard, does anyone know of any in socal that have these engines? Thanks
  8. The 240z-280z, though does it make a difference?
  9. went through that before, wasn't my question. I'm asking what members are getting compared to their stock v6 mpg with non LS engines
  10. Was just curious as to how gas efficient members V8's are. I know that there are a few V8's like the LS1 that can actually attain a better mpg, but has anyone seen a big increase/decrease with their other swaps?
  11. ohhhh my it was Clifton That is one sexyyyyy Z Anyone know any info about paint costs per color? I read somewhere that some colors are more expensive than others.. How much would it cost to have one done similar? I was thinking 3k
  12. Ive seen a few people on here that had graphite painted Z's and I was truly amazed at the look. Does anyone know of a member here that has a graphite Z with after market rims in his sig? I have searched for a good 30 mins and havnt found the person. Also, does it cost more than to paint with graphite compared to a more common color?
  13. so the car wouldnt be capable of using A/C with that engine?
  14. hey looks good, was it fairly easy to swap that engine?
  15. I'm on my way to the library right now (no joke), gonna try and get the basics down on engines before I start ready the books on the small block. As for the sunroof'd Z, I'm not sure I'm gonna get it as its starting to bother the crap out of me, think I'm gonna start looking for one without the sun roof.
  16. Well honestly I was thinking about removing it completely cause it doesn't look very professional, and I would just have to seal it off anyway. I guess a welder might come in handy
  17. You can barley see the sunroof from this angle but its visible and its just a 1978 280z what do you guys think
  18. OK Thanks! I live near Glendale, so it shouldn't be too far. Right now I have another problem though, the 280z that my friend would be selling me the in a week has a sunroof..that has a slight leak. At first I figured that it wouldn't be a problem with some good sealant, but then I thought, did the 280z's even come with sunroofs? Do you think it would be a bad idea to buy a car with one?
  19. How much welding though be necessary for an engine build that I am planning? A LT1 engine into a Z, the only thing I think it would need done is the engine mounts, right?
