I might be asking you a few questions concerning wiring fairly soon. My car is 99.999999992% done, but has a few kinks left. I'm not home currently, but I'll let you know once I start working on it. BTW, good job on your swap, you did a good job of getting it all together before me! -Vann

Hey again... it's been another 4 months, but my car is finally safe at home in my garage. Too bad I'm up at school right now. Anyways, from the small conversation I had with my dad, my car is home, but isn't fully functional. Apparently some wiring still needs to be done. As soon as I get the chance to go home, I'll get pics, vids, stories, everything and post em up here and on my site. I need to get out a broom and knock the cobwebs off my website, it's been sitting for quite some time. Once I get a chance to check out what is left to be done, I'm sure you'll all be hearing from me and hopefully giving me some much needed wiring guidance! Maybe someone in the Houston/Katy area with some wiring knowledge could possibly help me out. I guess we'll just have to wait and see once again. I PROMISE, pics and vids as soon as I get a chance to go home. Take care guys, and wish me luck! Oh ya, for all of you who forgot what I've done to my Z (I pretty much don't even know anymore ) - It's a 1991 Z32 (previously stock NA) that now has a 98 LS1 / T-56 combo with a Vortech SC running @ 8psi. Hmm, that's the first time I've said any of that in 4 months... I'm starting to drool again. -Vann

Just a reminder for some of you about my Z32 swap....
KraZeeZX replied to KraZeeZX's topic in Gen I & II Chevy V8 Tech Board
KillerZees - Answer: Torque, v8 rumble, wet-your-pants acceleration... oh, and it's unique. TT swaps are boring. Aldashwa - the owner of that shop needs to be hung. If you spoke to Phil.. you didn't gat any correct answers about my Z. Oh, and that 700ZXC thing is complete crap and is coming off my car ASAP, I just bought that rear center panel and they slapped that silly f-in decal on. I'll let you know... the shop didn't do crap, one mechanic, Gustavo, the honly honest guy is the whole damn place did a lot of work. The hood fit fine over the bare LS1, but the SC required me to raise it since I have the vortech aftercooler. Like I said, it is MUCH nice than that pic I showed above... that was a base for the sheetmetal work that ended up being completely wrong measurements due to that shop owner. (i could say so many things about that, but I'll be polite and shutup) ToplessZ - Didn't realize anyone else had put an LS1 into their Z32. I saw an LT1 put in one and a few 350sbc's but not the LS1. Just wierd since I asked about a million times if anyone had seen or heard of it being done before I started. Oh well.. mines faster. -Vann -
Just wanted to put up these few pics in case y'all had never seen them. These are all old and no where near up to date. Since these pics, the entire car has been put together, runs, drives, and just needs to be tweaked before I can get it on the road. Here's my current progress (in text): []Chevy LS1 V8 ------------------------------------------FULLY INSTALLED - (Stock w/80mm TB, Upgraded MAS) []6-speed Borg-Warner Tranny -------------------------FULLY INSTALLED - (Short Shifter) []Vortech SC (Water Cooled)@ 8psi --------------------FULLY INSTALLED - (Vortech Aftercooler, custom radiator, larger injectors, custom ECU) []Full Custom Exhaust (stock ls1 headers) -------------FULLY INSTALLED - (Dual 2.5" all the way) []ALL WIRING --------------------------------------------- DONE - ('Painless' wiring harness, all other custom wiring) []Custom Autometer Gauge Pod ------------------------FULLY INSTALLED - (Speedo, Tach, Fuel, Water Temp, Oil Press, Boost, Fuel Press, Air/Fuel) []Battery in trunk ----------------------------------------- DONE - (Optima Yellow Top, now I have NO trunk space... i'll be fixing that) []Custom Cowl Hood ------------------------------------- DONE & INSTALLED - (The pic below is very misleading, turned out lower and very sleek.) Everythings done, there were a few exhaust leaks @ the headers, and some tweaking needs to be done to correct the fuel pressure, but that is ALL. Here are the pics that were never shown... OLD.. from February 2003... From APRIL 2003... From JUNE 2003, this is NOT my filter setup... JUNE again, pre-radiator, but it started and ran (water recycled through the block).... JUNE yet again, hideous and HUGE, but nowehere near the final product... Battery in the trunk, from June.... Once again.. these are old.. I never got a chance to take newer pics since Ive been up at school, but the hood is done and on the car (it looks great), everything else is back together, and the wiring doesn't look so crappy in the engine bay anymore. Just thought I'd post so everyone could get an idea of when progress was made during my swap. Oh, and I was the first (that anyone knows of) to pioneer this ridiculous swap . I'll get y'all some video of me starting her up, revving, and maybe a little driving sequence for an X-mas present. 8) (For those who were wondering what's going to happen to the shop from hell that screwed me.... I can't really say anything due to legal issues, if you get my drift. ) -Vann

Well, it's almost the 1 year anniversary of my swap start and well... tons of things went wrong, but that didn't have to do with me, it had to do with an incompitant shop. My website has been collecting dust in case you all haven't noticed. I've been up here at school and haven't had any time to work on/check on my Z since August. In that time I've taken up golf to occupy myself and the rest of my money. It's insane to come back and see SOOOO many people doing the 90-96 Z swap now! I'm kinda jealous, they're making great progress with the LS1 and getting all the praise I used to drool over. Here's what I've got for you guys... I'm here @ school until Tuesday the 15th. Between then and Christmas... I will give you all the X-mas present you've been waiting for. Check either here for my post, or my website for the goodies.... A vid of my 1991 300zx running, working, breathing, living. Don't wet your pants. (BTW, for those of you who don't know me.... just search around here for my posts.. you'll see what I was building.) For those of you who knew what was going on and the problems I was having... they haven't been completely solved yet, but I will be getting compensated in the end. Take care, good luck with all your swaps this holiday season, and be safe. I'll talk to you all again when I bring presents. -Vann

Just a heads up on my Z if anyone cares...
KraZeeZX posted a topic in Gen I & II Chevy V8 Tech Board
First of all, everyone be sure to wish that special someone a happy mother's day (where it applies appropriately ). And the meat of the post, (for those of you who don't wish to read my ramblings below): my Z is coming home on Monday regaurdless of it's status and I will be completing her myself now that I am back from college and actually have the time. Let me tell ya, working with this shop has been one hell of a learning experience and man is it going to give me a great chance to practice what I learned in business law class! I'll make much more detailed comments on my website (which is now up and being worked on progressively with 'decent' bandwidth for those of you who wish to browse.) All of the mayhem aside, my baby is coming home finally on monday the 11th. Nearly 5 months after making the BIGGEST mistake ever, (which my dad and I both sorely regret) my Z will be home and finally back in caring hands. That's 5 months of being lied to and lead on to believe that honest people actually wanted to help me with something spectacular. I learned otherwise... the hard way and wow has it motivated me to learn as much as I can about cars so I will never have to leave my cars in a shop ever again! From what I am expecting, here's what I'll be looking at having to do once my car is back in my garage: - Connect my Water Temp. and Oil Press. gauges - Replace the LS1 clutch cylinder with my stock Nissan one to give me a nice stiff pedal. - Put in a fuel pressure regulator - install my gas pedal and throttle cable (which I have a story about) - double check the wiring - find a small windshield wiper motor that will fit now that my firewall has been modified - invest in a nice vintage air AC system to endure these HOT texas summers. For the most part I think I can handle the rest despite my lack of "hands-on" automotive experience. Hopefully I will be able to get everything sorted out and have my Z back on the road by the end of the week. Anyways, thanks for following along with my sporadic and mostly false updates due to my being taken advantage of. Amazing how these Z32 swaps became so popular once mine went underway (even though I know I was never an influence), just wish I could be driving mine like the others already are. And for anyone who buys one of these new Z32 bolt-in swap kits... LUCKY! -Vann -
Well, I finally got motivated to start working on my website again. Amazingly it seems as though my school has taken down the outgoing bandwidth limits and now my server finally works!!!! This is mainly a post about the new layouts and interfaces I am deigning for my site, but for those of you who are actually wondering about the progress of my Z... well, just check out the news box on my page (links are below.) Keep in mind that my site has a LONG way to go. Ultimately I will have content for all Z cars, a HUGE multimedia section, some funny stuff, Z of the month features, a nice tech & faq section, and of course, a whole heap of stuff about my LS1 Z32, 8) Right now I am geared towards getting all of the layouts for the pages made and then I will be adding the actual media content. So please, with as much constructive criticism as possible, take a look at the FAQ page I've been working on all day and let me know what you think. Just mouse-over the different sections to get an idea of what I've done. http://www.krazeezx.com/faq.htm I will be adding sections for ALL era of Z car, but the Z32 is what I have the most knowledge of currently. And, once you've taken a gander over there, to find out more about my Z, check out my latest news update here: http://www.krazeezx.com/opennews.htm Thanks everyone! Let me know what you think! Oh ya! If you would like your car to be a feature, let me know... once i start getting a decent amount of requests, I'll provide more info on exactly what I'll need to make a nice page for your baby! -Vann

Help me out, questions concerning gauges...
KraZeeZX replied to KraZeeZX's topic in Gen I & II Chevy V8 Tech Board
Runnin 9psi on the blower... should be good for 450-475rwhp since I don't have headers yet. I ordered my gauges and they should be in tomorrow and put in the car the following day.. lets hope that she's finally done this weekend. -
Help me out, questions concerning gauges...
KraZeeZX replied to KraZeeZX's topic in Gen I & II Chevy V8 Tech Board
Tim, Thanks for the reply... RIght now the only gauge that works is the fuel gauge so I figure it shouldn't be a problem. I'm using a boost gauge to go with my Vortech V9 supercharger. -Vann -
Ok, My project is nearly done but working on my gauges has been like going through hell and back only to get one properly working gauge in the stock cluster. My only option now is to go with a complete aftermarket set. I guess I'll be using some plain 'ol autometer gauges (price is a factor so autometer wins). I just have a few questions about sending units and what I will need to get in order to get these gauges working properly. Here are the gauges I am buying... - Tachometer - Speedometer - Oil Pressure - Fuel Pressure - Fuel level - Water Temp. - Alternator (that's Voltometer right?) - Boost Now my question is, if I order all of these gauges, say from summit racing, do they come with all of the necessary sending units? And if they do come with the units, will they work with the 98 LS1/T-56 combo that I have? Or do I need to get some sending units from a GM dealer? And, for any of the above scenarios, which sending units do I need? I need to get ahold of these parts ASAP, I'm not worried about the gauges bein too fancy for now. I just need to get the above gauges installed and working. All of your help is GREATLY appreicated! Thanks -Vann

Did anyone actually ever complete a Z32 > Z8 project?
KraZeeZX replied to a topic in Gen I & II Chevy V8 Tech Board
My car will be done within the next 2 days (y'all pray for me on that one : )... supercharged LS1 and T-56. Over the years I've seen a few pics of other Z32 v8s... 2 were carbuerated 350's, one with a TPI 350, and one with a single turbo 350. Just search for my screen name, you'll find some pics in there. I haven't made any recent updates because there hasn't really been any substantial work done to my Z in the past few months. And get your buddy over here onto this board! I'm sure everyone would like to see his setup. -Vann -
Is it any wonder why so many college students are antiwar?
KraZeeZX replied to Dave240Z's topic in Non Tech Board
I'm a college student and man am I getting tired of this crap. People can protest all they want, it isn't going to change anything. I'm happy that my school has a majority of pro-war students and I have only seen a small group of people holding a candle-light vigil on a corner a few days back. I don't even think it was negative, I believe it was for the first few soldiers who died. Now up in Austin which is pretty close by, protesters are coming out of the woodwork and accomplish nothing but riling the police up and getting themselves arrested for obstruction. I think it's ridiculous, if you have an opinion, good for you, you've learned to think on your own, just don't be ignorant and believe that you and 50 other people with signs are going to end a war in which half a million people are involved. Free speech is a good thing, but why the hell do people use that right to deny support for people who are giving them the same right!?! Sheer blasphemy if you ask me, but hey, I'm not out walking the streets of Austin in a tye-dye shirt, dirty from not bathing in weeks, screaming like a girl to piss of police officers cuz I'm an anti-war hippy. I have a strong dislike for anti-war hippies because my dad was a part of the Vietnam war and was negatively greeted by assholes just like that when he came home. Ugh, ok.. [end rant] Cliffs notes: I dont like anti-war hippies. -Vann -
I hear ya man. Keep the faith and you know we are all here praying for your brother and family. -Vann

Hmm, I guess I'm the heavyweight on the forum... 3200lbs That includes... - Me - Full tank of gas - and complete street trim (stock seats, sound system and spare tire) I cant imagine how much of a whale she'd be if I had used an iron block engine! The weight will only be going up too, gotta get bigger wheels/tires and brakes and then a rollcage for when I can finally hook up! Oh well, good thing I have lots of power to back it all up!!!
-
Ya, Ive seen a few people with that hood scoop, if it woulda worked, I could have used that one. BUT... my hood has to be cowled.. A LOT! The car should be donr tomorrow or the following day... so we shall see. I juts hope it's not too big for me to see out the windshield! -Vann

Gimme a day or two.. I'll come up with some nice ideas. Oh, question!... Do you guys want tho logo to match this color scheme? I guess I'll just make a few different ones and see if any look nice.
-
Never realized there were any others running around out there besides the ones with boring carbed 350's... this one makes up for 'em all! Wonder how I'll stack up against him when mine's done... I'll probably get a crappier response from Twinturbo.net than he did since he's turbo. http://www.twinturbo.net/net/viewmsg.aspx?forum=general&msg_id=791873 -Vann

Hey... here are some answers for you... LT1 - Iron block 5.7L v8 ..puts out around 240rwhp stock LS1 - Aluminum block 5.7L v8 ..puts out from 300-320rwhp stock (AND it's lightweight) LS6 - a beefed up LS1 (new cam, intake manifold, etc.) and puts out approx. 375-386rwhp stock When buying a used engine for your application, any of the above engines would be a great choice. Since you are looking for 400rwhp, an LS6 would nearly get you there with a bone stock engine... however, the LS6 will cost you some extra cash. I picked up an LS1 with an automatic transmission and ECU/wiring harness for $3400 with only 40,000 miles on it. I would recommend going with an LS1 and throwing a cam and possibly some heads on there. You'll spend about the same doing that as you would trying to buy an LS6 block, AND with some decently ported heads/cam.. you cam easily make 400 - 425rwhp on the stock LS1 block. Since the LS1 is fairly new.. mods are going to be more expensive than they would be for an LT1... but you have to decide exactly what you want to do. The LS1 will give you more power and less weight, and the LT1 would cost a little less to maintain and mod... but the extra mods you would need for the LT1 to make up for the extra power it needs to match the LS1 would probably even out the cost of your mods for an LS1. 400rwhp/400rwtq is VERY easy to get to on any of those engines... hell, you could throw a 100 wet shot of NOS on the LS1 and be at your numbers instantly, but it's all up to you on what approach you are going to make to gaining that power. There are a few guys here with LS1's in their Datsuns that could provide some more info that I may have left out so keep asking and I'm sure you'll get exactly what answers you are looking for. Feel free to let me know if I can be of any more help! -Vann

Absolutely... one of those nasty, boxy cowls is the LAST thing I want! The body shop it's at does some excellent work, I just hope they have enough common sense and taste to make the cowl match the bodylines of the Z and keep it looking decent. I'll be happy with the power, but if my car looks like crap I'm gonna be really pissed! Let's just hope for the best!

A little sneak peek of just why my hood wont fit!
KraZeeZX replied to KraZeeZX's topic in Non Tech Board
No, no, no... the_dj made it sound more over the top than it really is! It's just a custom PROGRAMMED ECU from a 2002 LS1 that is setup specifically for the Vortech running 9psi. It makes everything better since now I have a 1998 engine that's running on 2002 standards. -
A little sneak peek of just why my hood wont fit!
KraZeeZX replied to KraZeeZX's topic in Non Tech Board
K, I'll be nice and let y'all see what this baby REALLY looks like! Can't wait till my radiator and painless wiring harness are in! THEN we have some fun! -
Umnm.. I lived over at LS1.com and LS1tech.com and did my research. The only cars that outrun teh supercharged LS1's (possibly) are the ones running around with stage II heads, a meaty cam, headers, and all sorts of other stuff.. AND they have weight reduction. If you look at the top 100 list over at ls1tech.com... the fastest of the fast are all running with forced induction. Besides, I'd like to see how a 346 cid LS1 with all of it's bolt-ons, cam and such would stack up against mine once its done. I've done the math, Ive done the research, and let me tell you.. my car is not going to be losing to very many people. Vortech V-9 running @ 9psi EGR Mod True-dual exhaust (something that most LS1's dont have) Custom intake Various other free mod typer things... If you put that together, along with my 3200# race weight... with traction I'm looking at mid to low 10's buddy. I know very well what the LS1 is capable of and the supercharger is going to make it that much more fun. The next step for me is a 427 stroker with heads/cam and upping the boost to 20psi... I dont think there are any other LS1's out there that would be able to compete with that... cept for possibly the lengenfielter ones . There are many underlying reasons as to why I went with a supercharger too so you have to take those into account as well... 1)Cheaper (i got a great deal) 2)I cant run long-tube headers (thats 60rwhp on ls1's) 3)Its more unique this way 4)Too many others to list It's really hard to compare 2 Ls1's anyway, expecially an NA one and an SC one... Those NA Ls1's are NOT stock... you're looking at an entirely new valvetrain and cam basically. PLUS all bolt-ons (which I cannot get in mine)... the FASTEST heads/cam LS1 that is still 346cid is putting down ~460rwhp and `~430rwtq. Now I will say that that is damn impressive, and I was oging to take that route.. but once I'm done.. I will be putting down ~550rwhp and ~600+rwtq! Now how could a non-SC ls1 take out one that clearly has 100 more hp?? Not to sound like an ass or dog you for that, but I'm just confused! I think you may have seen some beasts for NA's running against some mildly tuned SC ls1's. AND the non-SC ls1's could have been strokers. If I had the choice (and money) I would have instantly gone with a 422 stroker instead of a SC, and I coulda make the same amount of HP without any forced induction... but strokers are WAAAAYYY too much $ for me! Please explain to me more indepth exactly which cars you are talking about, what kind of numbers they are showing (hp, tq, and 1/4 mile), and how they are beating out supercharged ones! The problem with comparing them is that there are just so many factors.
-
Well, as it turns out... that stock hood just ain't gonna cut it! Well, it's gonna get cut though! Take a look at my new little friend peeking over my hoodlatch to say HELLO!! Here's a little sneak peek!
-
Hehe, absolutely.. but now that my hood is going up, I don't think scaring the crap outta people will be a problem!
