Hi all,
So I'm currently in the process of switching my '77 280z to carbureted with the AZC manifold. It's my first project and pleased to say that everything is coming along quite nicely. I'm now ready to begin wiring everything but wondering if it's possible to simply use a 240z harness? I'm deleting the AC so don't require any of those wires, and I've obviously eliminated the need for FI cables as well. Thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated! If it's possible to simply use a 240 harness it'd also allow me to clean up the engine bay too!

I'll just chime and and say ditto -- thank you for these! I've spent countless hours staring at this diagram and it's been probably the most invaluable resource in my build. Thank you!

Gotcha! Okay, so hook the distributor wires to the mini-junction? I assume the wires then run from the mini-junction to the transistor ignition unit?
Thanks again!

Hi all! Got a couple rookie questions for you... I'm reinstalling the original wiring harness on my '77 280Z and need some help ID'ing a couple items.
(1) There are red and green wires running off the distributor. On a wiring diagram it seems to suggest that these wires run all the way to the passenger firewall and connect to the transistor ignition unit, however, I don't believe this is physically possible given the length of wire. Any thoughts on where it may connect to?
(2) Perhaps related, albeit a separate question, what is this mini junction with red and green wires connected to it? Located on the driver side.As always, thank you! -

These guys completely rebuilt the sending unit for my '77 280z.
Family run business, super quick turnaround.
Not surprisingly, he said he does lots of Datsun rebuilds and seemed to indicate that he could build brand new ones as well. I'd suggest touching base with him and see what option he has available.

Those are the sizes I used. I don't think mine got more than about three turns in but coupled with some Loctite PST they sealed up fine.
Sounds good! I'll give it a try this week!

When I was still running that intake I just plugged the fitting in the thermostat housing and found a straight fitting for the where the heater hose connects.
Thanks SRRTz!
So plug #1 and substitute a straight fitting for #2? If so, that's what I planned on doing but NPT threading (1/4" for #1 and 1/2" for #2) doesn't quite work. In other words, I'm only able to turn each maybe one or two rotations before the threading stops it from going in any further. On the other hand, maybe one or two rotations is sufficient if I use some Teflon tape on the treads?

Thanks ritrebor!
- #2, the larger inlet to left of circle receives the heater hose from the firewall. I'm just not sure about the smaller connector circled in red which I assume is the "external bypass" in diagram?
- #3, sounds like I'll just leave the rubber caps on that came with the radiator since I have manual tranny.
Thanks again!

Hi all,
I hope this is the right subthread for my question. I've been referencing this diagram pulled from another thread, but I still need some help identifying the following items...
(1) What does this outlet connect to from water outlet housing? I'm assuming it connects to the intake manifold, but since I removed the original manifold and installed the AZC manifold what should I now do with this outlet? Do I plug it?
(2) What does this outlet connect to from water inlet? If it's the "external bypass" that connects to the outlet housing, I assume there should be a place on the outlet housing to which it should actually connected (I can't remember if there is a place for it)? If it does indeed connect to outlet housing, what connector should I use?(3) I just bought a new radiator but it comes with two outlets at the bottom. What do these connect to?
Thank you!

Whew! Reinstalling the gas tank has been a lot of work!!!
First off, I had the original fuel sending unit repaired by the good folks at Tristar Radiator (http://tristarrradiator.com). They do a lot of work on Datsun sending units and I highly advise that you check them out.
However, I can't remember how to install the unit. If anyone can comment that would be greatly appreciated!
Unfortunately I bought the wrong fuel tank straps -- purchased straps for a '75-76 280z which apparently differs from the later models. I just posted a separate question in the fuel delivery forum if anyone knows of a universal strap kit that would work or perhaps knows the correct size of the '77 straps I could probably find a similar replacement. Two presumably 'controversial' points to make about the install...- (1) I needed to replace the large breather hose that leads from the gas tank to reservoir tank. It appears to be a 5/8" hose but the only rubber hose that the auto shops had available was a heater hose. Since only vapors will be running through the hose (as opposed to actual fuel) I figured the hose's material shouldn't make much of a difference?- (2) I understand it's hotly debated issue on many forums but I went ahead and deleted the charcoal canister. Thus, while I retained the breather hoses for the reservoir tank (see photo above) I plugged the line that leads from the reservoir tank to what would be the charcoal canister. By retaining the breather hoses I figured the actual gas tank could still vent if under pressure? -
Yes!!! Hopefully ready in a couple weeks?! I'll have to join you guys for the next car show or ZCCR drive!

Hi all,
So I accidentally purchased the fuel tank straps for a '75-76 280z which, unbeknownst to me, is apparently a different size than the '77.
Has anyone had any luck with some sort of universal fuel strap kit? Alternatively, does anyone have the measurements for the '77 straps so I can find a close substitute through AutoZone or other stores?
Thanks!

So I took a little hiatus from the project and had to focus on school work. As a grad student, I'm also on a very limited budget and unfortunately had to sell the SBC. Never had a chance to even install it.
Anyway, I'm finally back to work on the Z and decided to reinstall the original L28. It engine hasn't been started since 2003 when it was last put in storage so I had a mechanic buddy come to the garage and turn it over by hand. According to him the engine looks great and has a lot of potential, so we went ahead and installed it!
After speaking with some folks I decided to drop the fuel injection and switch to the Arizona Z Car intake with carb. Purchased the entire intake/carb setup from another Hybridz member.
Also added new starter, alternator, and radiator.
Not technically mounted yet, but I put the air dam in place. I think it'll look so cool!

Hi Phantom, just saw your post... I'm working on my PhD in political science. I've finished with all my course work and comprehensive exams and just starting to write my dissertation. I hope to finish in another year or so!... The garage is fantastic and really lucky to be surrounded by very knowledgeable folks including "1 Tuff Z" who has been incredibly helpful and I've learned a great deal from him!... Actually, I just realized I haven't updated this build thread in a while and suppose I'll do that now!

Awesome, thanks guys! Greatly appreciated!

Thanks BluDestiny! I'll pull it and take it to the store. It's a little corroded, but I figured since I'm replacing the hoses I might as well replace the fitting while I'm at it. Besides, I imagine it probably costs only a dollar or two?

Hi all,
I've got a rookie mechanical question for you... What is this connector called?
[NOTE: This isn't my vehicle and I only Googled this image for purposes of this post.]It connects the outbound water from the engine block to the heater core behind firewall. The reason I ask is because (1) I'm new to cars and learning as I continue to work on my project and (2) I'm getting ready to order new hoses and would like to replace that particular connector. I presume it's common enough to order from AutoZone or Summit?
Thank you!

Hey guys,
So it doesn't appear that anything has been listed recently on the 'for sale' forum so I figured I'd post something here... Looking for set of chrome/silver fender mirrors. Would like something similar to those pictured below, especially the JDM style but without the $400+ price tag! Any leads greatly appreciated!

So a couple of folks have kindly PM'd me some info and thought I'd share it on this thread in case anyone searched for something similar in the future.

Greetings all!
I'm in desperate need of two rubber engine mounts (Nissan part #11224-N3300). It is part #9 in the diagram on Car Parts Manual:
I actually need it by Saturday and I'm of course willing to pay all shipping costs related to overnighting the part to me.
Kindly let me know if you can send it tomorrow. I'll PayPal funds immediately.
Thank you!

Yes please! Will send you a message now!
