  1. Update... Sorry its been a while... Sadly the project went through a 'burnage'...not with literal fire... The bodyshop I brought it to that I paid 3000$ ahead of time for the bodywork to be done they did 1200$ worth of labor and refused to return the other 1800$ and stole half the Z... Front Crossmember, Rims, Tires, Doors, Fenders... Pretty much the entire front end was stolen by him... I was this last weekend able to travel 600 miles to get replacements from someone scrapping out another 240Z... I took him to small claims court which he will probably never pay as they found in my favor for 900$...

  5. Stripdown has been proceeding slowly - much more slowly than I would have otherwise hoped as during the teardown process it was realized that the fenders were rusted nicely and the floors were rusted out with the previous owner having used window screen and ample fiberglass patching to seal up holes in the car that I wouldnt have found if I didnt want to tear it down to make sure everything was structurally sound... And now...for update pics!

  8. Working at trying to get a solid lead on someone competent to build the engine since the only part I am missing for assembly now is the N1 Block. Switzer Performance - Has not returned calls or emails since March. SP Engineering - Does not return calls, faxes or emails for three weeks. Ed Pink Racing in California responded to tell me their rates and let me know that they could do it - for 100$ an hour until its done. TPG Tuning said they could build it when I asked in May but hasnt responded since. Shops here in Michigan are incompetent when it comes to imports.
  9. I have a Painless Wiring 18 circuit modern style fuse block (without harness) to replace the original fuse block that was prone to going supernova - which lead me to realize that the wiring itself may burn out. I did use the search function looking for posts regarding wiring but the inherent flaw on search function is wording - if you dont word it precisely you wont find what you are looking for. It certainly makes sense to get a universal harness to go with the fuse block I already have which would only be like maybe 150$ more which is nothing compared to the money I am already pitching into the project. People locally are already astounded at the very thought of a $90k 240Z build xD Sad is that I will have to get most all labor done in other states because noone out here seems to know what they are doing. I did research before I chose to go to another engine because people kept complaining that engines along the lines of the L series kept being blown up by local shops. Thank you for the thoughts
  10. Sorry about the delay on updates...I was waiting on parts that I ordered in July that still havent arrived... July parts purchases Tomei Top Rail Fuel Pipe Tomei Strengthened Timing Belt Tomei Adjustable Cam Gears Nismo N1 Water Pump ATI Performance Super Damper Greddy Pulley Kit Koyo Two Core Radiator R022352 McKinney Rear Sump Oil 7 qt McKinney Throttlecable & Bracket Carbon Fiber Hood Pins Tomei parts, the ATI damper, and the Hood Pins arrived within three weeks... McKinney informed me a month after the order was placed that they were only just then starting to manufacture the products we ordered and they have a 2 week construction period. That was a month ago almost -- I can honestly say I am highly disappointed with that. I could have gone with another company for the oil pan for like 200$ cheaper but went with McKinney because I heard they were the shit. Still waiting on delivery of: Nismo N1 Water Pump Greddy Pulley Kit Koyo Two Core Radiator R022352 McKinney Rear Sump Oil 7 qt McKinney Throttlecable & Bracket
  11. The present plan for the Z - If I dont waste money unnecessarily on things that are pointless or wasteful...then I should be able to save each year towards parts. 2013 from September to December: 9720 2014 from January to December: 28760 2015 from January to December: 29560 Which comes to a total of 68040 The total spending expectation (Estimated) of the Z is 65747.14 So...the Z will be done by end of year 2015 with about a 3000$ leverage...which will likely be more labor. Another item of note is that by end of year 2015 is that the Subaru will be paid off. So by the end of 2015 I will have the Subaru paid off AND have the Z completely done. Which lead me to looking at what is forthcoming or needs to be gathered... 850$ for Frame Stiffening & Reinforcement 1600$ for roll bar 250$ for Strut Tower Brace (Front) ???$ for the rust hole repairs All of which need to be welded onto the car or have brackets placed to be welded before the car is acid washed... Then (high estimates): 4500$ for Body Cleaning (Acid & Alcalyne Dip) 650$ Frame Cleaning 250$ Doors Cleaning 40$ Bezels Cleaning 140$ Hood Cleaning Those treatments for the metal will clean out all of the rust and include a 30 day inhibitor for me to get it primed or ecoated in the time to follow...
  12. Okay...I know this will probably be a pointless inquiring but hey if you dont ask you will never know! I have gotten ahold of KnuKonceptz about wiring of different colors and my plan is to pull out the stock wiring on my Z since I will be doing an acid/alcolyne dip anyway...that way I can upgrade the fuse box fully to a modern fuse block with 18 circuits and upgrade to a better gauge of wiring all the way through... What I am curious about is trying to find out what lengths of wiring for the colors presented. I have the wiring diagram but it doesnt show the lengths I will need for the wiring and I would have to pull all of the old wiring first and keep it together in order to get measurements so I figured I should ask first here if anyone happens to have measurements of the wiring for the Z front to rear so I can upgrade it all.
  13. June Purchases planned so far: Greddy Cam Cover Tomei Strengthened Timing Belt Tomei Adjustable Cam Gears Greddy Pulley Kit Tomei Top Rail Fuel Pipe Looking at AZC and TTT pieces to allow for the installation of my Q45 rear end into it...
  14. Beats the hell out of doing it the other way. Getting the stock hood, buying the scoop, and having the competition scoop attached to the stock hood (the path I would be going) - though having this as a secondary hood would save my stocker xD
  15. April Order to be made by Charles Mcmillan: Tomei High Perf Oil Pump Tomei Intake & Exhaust Valves +1 Tomei Head gasket 87mm x 2mm (metal) Tomei Oil Filler Cap Nissan OEM metal gasket pack CC Tomei Oil Pan Baffle CC This will bring the bottom end to be finished off so we can get the engine bay mocked up and get the access holes drilled in and get the engine itself stroked, bored, ported and polished and then begin on assembly. Yup, CC means Credit Card! Dont want to shove the entire 3200$ onto the checking account all at once when its only around 3400$ available right now. Looking at the engine section on the spreadsheet most of the next few purchases are rather tolerable...100-300 per item... The only things that make me groan at this point are: (2) Tomei M8260 Turbo 3000$ Tomei Expreme Exhaust Manifold 1000$ & Outlet Pipes 800$ Okada Plasma Coil Pack 1500$ Standalone ECU of Badassness 1600$ (Still not sure which one) Tomei 275 Intank Pump 530$ & Radium 400 Surge Tank 840$ Engine Assembly Tuning by (No ******* clue - they have to be reliable so its unlikely it will be tuned locally) But I can wittle around them when I feel peppy and have things saved...one BIG purchase every few months.
  16. Engine Parts Bought recently (since the list above was put up): ARP Main Head and Rod Studs ACL Rod and Main bearings Tomei Procams (Super High 280) Tomei Type C Valve spring & retainer Tomei valve guides
  17. Have the parts arrived from the US yet? xD
  18. Frankie Datsun is a 240Z project being performed by Charles Mcmillan. With products purchased and priced from varied vendors including Otaku Garage and Jordan At Defined with labor performed by the efforts of the mechanics at Cals Toybox, bodywork and paintwill be done by Ryan Racine putting exterior to paint code Nissan BNR32 #TH1, and artistic detailing will be done by Art Guapo Solis. The 1971 Datsun 240Z itself was an ebay buy for 2600$ which was based out of New York where it was picked up from its home outside Niagara Falls. Initially the name Frankie came from a joke by Cal about the car being a Frankenstein monster. Build will be conducted over the course of two years with purchases of parts where funds allows - and will be completed in sections when all required parts are purchased and is roughly estimated to be 60000$ in parts with 20000$ in labor as a rough estimate. Maybe it wont take that many hours for labor and maybe I can get deals on parts buuuuuuuuut estimates in the meantime are done for a retail market. Right off the bat the 240Z was brought to Cal's shop to be inspected initially as the vehicle was stripped down of nonessential items to allow for a more thorough inspection for rust damage. Interior thoroughly stripped out and put into storage as stock engine, transmission, radiator, exhaust was sold off via craigslist allowing for a more thorough inspection of engine bay and interior for rust. Come spring the intent is to have the interior further stripped out and tear down the wiring of the engine bay with intent to have - first: all frame and body panels repaired second: the engine pay sprayed down with high temp black paint third: a nice interior black paint spraying the interior fourth: undercarriage sprayed with rust proofing - = WORK SO FAR or PARTS PURCHASED = - ENGINE / TRANSMISSION / EXHAUST / ELECTRONICS: RB26 mated to 300ZX transmission (5000$) Tomei RB28 Stroker Kit ordered from Otaku Garage * 87.5 mm with Cooling Channels! 18 Circuit Fuse Block & Cover bought from Painless Wiring Dorman Slave Cylinder Vintage Air Control Knobs bought on Ebay Wilwood Master Cylinder bought on Ebay 15/16 Master Cylinder bought on Ebay Tomioka Racing Pro FPR bought from Sharla STi SUSPENSION / DRIVETRAIN / BRAKES: Q45 bought from Andrew Hoover EXTERIOR: ZX 'Z' style hood emblem bought on Ebay Competion Hood Scoop bought from ZStore Classic Corvette Scoops bought from Ebay to be rear brake scoops SOUND: Fusion CPFR6930 450w 6x9" Speakers bought on Ebay for rear INTERIOR: Nismo steering wheel bought from Stephen Dynomite Wheeler 4" 11k 4 in 1 tach bought on ebay Luggage Riser Trim bought on ebay 200 mph Large Speedometer bought from Speedhut Fuel Level bought from Speedhut Boost bought from Speedhut Volt bought from Speedhut Wideband A/F was on my STI but I went with Prosport EVO for that EGT bought from Speedhut Power Door Lock bought on ebay Billet Window Winders bought on ebay Fiberglass Door Panel bought from HybridZ crafter Raevyn 1974 240Z Console bought on Ebay Autometer Gauge Cage bought on Ebay
  19. THOUGHTS As I am looking at the AZC race pack when I do the suspension and brakes of the Z - and am looking at the OS Giken R200...I am trying to figure out what parts are included in the two and what parts I will need to get in addition such as the Q45 pieces and all in order to get everything sorted out. That will all be by the end of the year however as I will be starting off with the under, interior, and engine bay coating and painting and then reworking the engine. Spacing becomes a concern there as I am going to build up the engine fully before I go about fully installing it into the car so I dont know what all I can fit in the engine bay until that point but the restriction comes first from how much the machine shop can do with stroking, boring, porting, and polishing the block for the buildup and the stroker kit. UPDATE Put a car cover over it with a tarp under it just before christmas - due to the fact I live in Michigan and didnt want it open to the elements during the winter which is a time period I wont be able to work on it. I was able to get ahold of Raevyn here on HybridZ and ordered fiberglass door panels with speaker pods...now just waiting to recieve it. Ordered a Competition Datsun hoodscoop with the vents to the sides not the rear. ZBARN sent back a reply about my inquiry about interior panels and seemed confused on what I wanted on an email asking for pricing of 71 240Z interior parts and giving a list of all of the parts I needed. I will have to try again later.
