  1. i forgot a major point. my brother said he felt air coming out of the intake (this is before the turbo!) that definately makes me think valve timing or a valve sticking but any opinions/comments would be great.
  2. i'm not sure if the afc is connected correctly. i had a maxima wiring harness schematic and tried wiring it as good as i could but i'm not sure if it's 100% correct. the only thing is i ran it without the afc once and i did the same thing up to 3000 rpm. i have another maf so i'll see what that does. thanks for your help!
  3. i swapped a jdm vg30et into my maxima. for a while it wa getting a lot of fuel due to the fpr i had being installed wrong. i could get it started but i had to flutter the gas to do so. once i got it around 2000 rpm i could eventually get it to about 3000-3500 rpm or so but it took forever and sounded like it had a hard time running. since then i made absolutely sure the timing is correct and i fixed the fpr problem. now i'm still having the same trouble with it not being able to rev very high. when i changed the timing belt a while back i notice the cams weren't quite lined up with there dots on the case so i fixed whichever cam it was that was off. i put the timing belt on and it lined up fine with the marks on the belt. i'm thinking maybe valve timing is off due to me moving the cam ever so slighty but i'm not sure. i tried starting it today after fixing the fpr and i could get it up to 2000 rpm but it just doesn't want to run. it will idle at a little over 1000 rpm but then die off unless i mess with the throttle a little bit. while running if i keep it at 1500 rpm it will sometimes run extremely smooth and go up to 2000 rpm but then starts to have a hard time running after that. (by having a hard time running i mean it just wants to stay in one place on not rev any more. it sounds restricted and doesn't sound like it is making any power) here's some info on what i'm doing. i swapped the jdm vg30et into my maxima. i'm using all maxima sensors, ecu, and distributer. i'm using an apexi s-afc to correct the fuel curve. i have the stock injectors that came with the engine but i'm using a walbro 255 lph high pressure fuel pump. i relocated the turbo to a custom crossover pipe due to space restrictions. i have an aeromotive fpr (because i thought i would need it since i was using the maxima's ecu). if anyone has any ideas at all that would great! i've been working on this since march and have recently finally been able to attempt to run it but have ran into this problem.
  4. it's a vg33e. pretty much identical as the vg30e but i hear it has more material for boring out. i hear a lot of z31 guys use these engines for higher power output than the vg30e.
  5. if i remember correctly the auto tranny used in the older Q's is the same auto tranny used in the TTZ so i'm sure it would fit. Nissan uses the same bolt pattern for a lot of their engines which is really cool. edit: forgot my point of this reply. 300zx TT 5-speed should fit. that should handle 600 hp stock.

  7. this might be a dumb question but here it goes... here's the problem, i have a vg30et and the wiring harness and ecu for it. i'm putting it in a maxima, however, so the speedometer, tach, etc. harness doesn't work. the only way for me to get that to work at the moment is use the maxima wiring harness and ecu and get the jwt ecu retune but right now i can't get the jwt retune due to money issues. could i use the stock maxima ecu without the jwt retune but get a vortech fmu to increase the amount of fuel when under boost and be safe from ruining the engine? any ideas would be great. thanks!
  8. you can swap the pistons and rods between the ET and TT engine (i'm sure it goes the same for the det engine also). I hear you can even change the crank from the two but you just need to mill the TT crank down a little bit to work properly in the ET. If you want it cheap and easy, build a VG30ET. You can get a good amount of power out of those. With the TT internals you can support about 600 hp. JWT also has a kit set up to supply enough fuel for 450 hp but i'm sure you can get them to put something together to get more.
  9. i thought the VG30ET and VG30DET(T) had the exact same block. The only difference i know of is the VG30DET(T) has oil squirters on the pistons or somthing like that. I can go take a look at my friend's DET and compare it to my ET and see what kind of difference i can find. I think the main problem is the DOHC heads make it a bit wide which then forces you to make the engine bay a little wider or something a long those lines. The DET would be the best choice, in my opinion, because i think it has a little more potential than the TT (the DET has bigger ports on the heads), single turbo will cost less to upgrade compared to buying double of everything, and it is a lot smaller because the intake doesn't stick out so much.
  10. i heard it's been done but it will cost a lot due to the amount of fabricating needed to be done.
  11. i'm sure there are a lot of jdm engine sites that will have the engine. a real good place is ebay. when they have the engines they go for cheap. we got my friend's VG30DET for 500 dollars along with my VG30ET being 500 also. I found both on ebay.
  12. ok, i'm trying to find the best spot for a blow off valve. i've heard before the intercooler is the best and i also heard as close to the throttle body as possible. what do you guys think? thanks!
  13. yes, there are ej20dett. while i was thinking about getting a subaru i looked for engines and found that one. you can get it at http://www.nippon-motors.com for 1100 dollars. like all jap engines they are supposed to have 280 hp but this one is said to have about 320 stock.

  15. yeah, i also heard that you need the z32 ecu. my friend is putting one of these in his 280z. he called jim wolf and they said they've done a few. if if remember correctly they said you need the ecu and wiring harness out of a 90-94 NA 300zx. you send JWT your ecu and they will program it for the vg30det engine.
  16. did you guys notice the gas mileage of it? that is the amazing part. i saw this before and if i remeber correctly it gets 21.6 mpg out of a 735 hp 1300 ft lb 5.9 liter I6 diesel engine
  17. do you know the dimensions of the VG30DET?? thanks.
  18. This has hit so many forums all around the place and i couldn't find it here so I thought I'd share it with you guys. http://65.31.67.109/showthread.php?threadid=29134&perpage=15&pagenumber=1
  19. yeah i was about to sign up and get there info correct on the rb. i've heard that rb will handle a hell of a lot more horse than those 2jz's would ever dream about on stock internals.
  20. thank you so much! now to see if this thing is good
  21. it shouldn't be that bad considering the earlier 300zx's wre v6 with a single turbo. you just have to have some crossover pipes and stuff. definately not as easy and efficient as an I6 but it would definately be better price wise.
  22. i thought the supras that were turbo (the last gen that was in the us) were twin turbo. i thought most of them jsut converted it over to single. if i ever got a TTZ i would do the same and just make it a single.
  23. what should the psi be on a n/a 280z?
  24. yeah, i did some research and did find that vg30det. it's basically the same thing as the vg30dett but single turboed right?
