  2. I picked the car up for $1000... And have spent $200 on it... I have a 350 and tranny but don't know how much work that will be an dhow much it will end up costing me if i drop the 350 in
  3. I know aqbout the ground i hooked it up real wuick testing a starter... i'll wire it back onc ei have it running ha....
  4. the guy only use dteh car as a project and has been sitting for 20+ years its beilavble that the car only has 26k... the floor boards are fine way more pics http://s470.photobucket.com/albums/rr67/260zkid/ http://s470.photobucket.com/albums/rr67/260zkid/

  7. I tryed everything the 27mm on the crank this motor refuses to move i have sea foam in the cylnder... I am goonna tear the motor apart and see what all is messed up..
  8. Yesterday i went to pick up my 260z. It has been sitting for 20 years in Colorado climate.... The person who owned it before me died and his brother let it sit in his farms field... I got my hands on it... I barly know were to start... I drained oil looked new surprisingly... did full tune up spark plugs, spark plugs wires. distributor cap, I took the headers off and blasted exhaust out to make sure i had flow... put sea foam in all 6 cylnders haven't put spark plugs in yet... But I could not get the motor to crank it is seized up, The guy told me it ran when it was parked... So I know there hope... WHat all can i do? I have taken the starter off pryed on the flywheel and the timing gear at differnt angels... The cam moves a little to the slack of the timing chain but the bottom end is seized... What all can I do? To get the motor unstuck? The guy told me his brother bought the car brand new from the dealer... WIth the sports package or what ever for the better suspension... Is there any way to tell? And the car is a automatic how crappy are the automatics of this era...? is has bf goodrich tires p245 60r14... there huge and thick and bald as a slick... the front tire have a lot of tread just dry rotted.... the car has m ost of its emission off headers... dual sun roof. whale tail... Are the 260z fast? in comparsion to the 240 or 280...? Car has little to no rust just surface.... but has a front spoiler and wide stance in the back for the bigger tires... in the condition of the motor and every thign the odometer reads 26k.... which is belivable with the condtion of parts.... Is there anyway to tell once iget the motor to crank over? Sorry so many questions I am just figuring out what i got. Any information or help would be nice thank you
  9. i do everything in my driveway of my apartment with cheap tools
  10. yeah and that car i was doing 155 i had r200 diff.
  11. I have 0 knowledge of nitrous... How bad is it on a motor? and I really am not worried about blowing the motor up as long as i run pretty good times ha... Is there any place I can just go to get a entire nos setup or is it all online?
  12. The car went 13's with a pretty nicely built n42 block with e88 head... But this year I just have a p79 with f54 block... is it possible to turbo charge carbs? that may be dumb but i mean if you force air into the SU carbs is it just gonna break them? ha i am just trying to find a quick fix i have a budget of $1200 and two weeks... This motor seems to build much nicer with the lightweight fly wheel then the previous one but it might be my imagination... Woudl it be a good idea to buy some slicks for the back? I tend to spend the wheels going through first and beggining of second...
  13. ok last year I ran consistent 13's... But I have a new motor thia year so what is the easy way to get better times... Should I run higher octane? Last year I had a E88 head on a N42 block so I believe the compression was around 10/1*... This year I have a p79 head with a f54 block... So I think the compression is around 8.5/1* ... I ran a 13 high last year running NA motor at 6000+ elevation but I had 100+ octane. Can I run avation or blue fuel with the new motor? What happens with high octane in lower compression motors? What can I do fast and quick to get my time nice?
  14. Well a clutch takes 4 hours to switch tranny takes 3 to 4 hours... motor is a 7 hour job... These cars are easy to work on and in my book its been reliable for how hard I have pushed it... I broke the transmission being dumb... Trying ot burn out from 1st to second one time and broke the linkage in side it(took 2nd and 1st out and then i had third fourth and reverse was a pain to drive... )... and I had clutch half enaged down shifting into 2nd at 55 and messed up the linakge again(only had reverse).... both early model 4 speeds... the 5 speed has been fine but i'm nice to it...
  15. I have had my licence 8 months and driven my 11/1971 basically everyday accept when I break something... It has been extremely reliable... I am on my second motor and third tranny and second diffential switched to r200 for performance and when my stock clutch went out upgraded to a Stage 2 centerforce with lightweigth flywheel. The car has been reliable if it weren't for dumb teenage decisions it would have always been DD... But I am fixing a 280 to make my DD (can't get the damn thing to pass emissions...) so I can rebuild my 240 from ground up... I am getting 20ish mile to the gallon with L28 and dual su carbs...
  16. Thank you, that helps a lot... Is tthere any place I can buy a brand new cam and rocker arms and tablets to redo the top in of my head...? and is it better to have internally oiled cam with a spray bar? There is a 280z that goes to sonic a lot by my house and he has a pressured bottle that forces oil on the top of the head... Does any one know what this is? I live in denver and its a super lowered 280z with full roll cage a teenage kid drives it...
  17. So, I don't know whats going on with the oiling system on these cams... Some N42 heads I see oiling tubes for the cam... Some cams are internal. Will the N42 block and f54 support both oiling sytems of the cam? And what years did they do what? I got in a huge argument with my dad when looking for heads because he thinks that my bottom end will only oil right with a oil rail and that my bottom end won't oil properly for the internal cam oiling setup? How does the oiling setup work... Some head gasket have the oil port in the middle of the block and some don't ... Can some one break down the oiling setup the years the head gasket and bottom end oiling to the head (oil jets)
  18. Thank you... It feels that this engine pulls harder then my N42 block with N42 head or my N42 block with e88 head... It seems to pull a lot harder... I have a rebuilt E88 head would it be a good idea to put it on this f54 block? And go with triple webers? I am trying to get a strong motor without spending way to much.
  19. i did a engine swap over the weekend I bought a rebuilt engine for a 1982 280zx... The block is a f54 and the head is a p79. I dropped it into my 240z everything bolted up had to switch a couple things out... I used the Exhaust/intake gasket and got it to seal the injector holes and put my SU carbs on... Am I going to have any issues? I took it for a test drive and it was very quick not sure if its quicker then my N42 with E88 setup... But it built faster. But I kinda of jumped into it and did it I am wondering if there is anything I should worrie about since I put SU carbs on this head the only issue at first was getting the intake to seal since the injector holes are their, seems to be sealed. Other question will the SU carbs provide enough gas for the f54 block with p79 head (82 280zx engine). How much did I kill horse power by taking away efi from this motor? My SU carbs were rebuilt by z thearpy and work amazing... But can they support a bigger engine? And how bad is it if the metal liner were removed from the p79 head on the exhuast out... The guy who built the motor removed and cleaned it up for better flow... Will i have any issues with out the metal liner or does it just make the p79 head like a p90 head? Thanks for reading and any advice will help or concerns on the setup...
