Sounds very similar to a motor I installed in my boat. I used Scatt crank and 6 in. rods, Dart Iron eagle, Keith Black 9.7 pistons, cam sounds about the same although mine is a reverse turn motor and a worked marine Q-jet. STRONG motor. With aluminum heads I would love to have this motor in a car.

Scott,
Looks very nice.

Your Fairlady's are looking good. I do not remember ever seeing the 240Z motor compartment. It looks good.
-
Ejkej,
Nice cars, also nice photo work.

yhlz,
I have seen Thomas's two GTR s at Pettersen Motorworks in Chico CA. They are perfect. I knew he had a 432 but your photos are the first I have seen of it. Beautiful cars. Three S-20 in the United States at one show, quite a treat.

Nice work, isn't it nice to have the old z's back on the road.
-
Nice work, tastefully done. Like the center exit exhaust, air box, and door panels.

Well, you are right. There has been a decrease in the availably of 15 in. performance tires. When I was looking for wheels I checked tire availability in brands I would run. Well, that caused me to make a quick decision that 15 in. would not work for the long run (many years of purchasing tires). I purchased 16 in. and the availably is limited also. What I found is that a 215-60-15 had the best availability and looks the best as an old school look and they are available in the 15 in.

The black ones are appropriate for a Z and a member here (azcarbum) has them from time to time. There is also a seller on eBay gira777 that frequently has hard to find Datsun parts (FairLady mirrors, factory head light covers)that he reliably sends to the USA. I got mirrors from gira777. If you consider what it cost to purchase a set of most factory original mirrors for any modern car then the price does not look so bad.

I have not checked my in town mileage but I have checked my highway mileage. While driving to the Canby Car Show & Swap in Oregon USA last year up I-5 for 100s of miles, averaging 75 mph and many blasts beyond 100 mph with a 3.1 L and triple Weber 45s I averaged 24 mpg on more than one tank of gas 91 octane.

Looking good drifter. You got the stance just right.

You're doing what I'm building for an airbox. I wanted to put the filter there, looks good.
Thanks, I agree, it does look appropriate there. However, the only plans I have for the car is to move the air filter out in front of the hot engine compartment to allow it to get cold air.

Welcome to the site. Enjoy the ride.

Welcome to the site. I am sure there are a few good shops in the bay area. I met a guy that has a shop down there. I cant remember his name or the name of his shop, but he has a Z shop. I have seen his work and it is top notch. He drives a 240Z that is silver with an RB motor and three piece Pannasports. Very nice car.
I do know that a lot of people from the Bay Area are bringing their Z to Chico to have Steve Pettersen of Pettersen MotorWorks repair and or do complete restorations. He can be reached a 530-895-3606

I see what you mean. I know the car and it is an amazing car throughout. Maybe the next You Tube video can have the owner tell us the story so it is correct.

Helmets have expiration dates and or build dates and supposedly they are only safe for 5 years from build date. So if that interests you then there are different models made to fit different shaped heads. I use off road moto helmets and tried on a Shoei and thought it was great. Then I tried on an Arai and it fit perfect and that is what I use. I have tried a Bell that also fit great but the face protection /chin gard is very close to your face. It is a personal preference.

I have Toyota 4x4 four piston set up from MSA along with their rear disk conversion. I just put on a set of Porterfield R4-S all around. The part number for the front is AP 410 and the rear is AP 230/323. They have much better feel and initial bite than the stock Toyota pads in front and Nissan in rear.

G-nose Hayashi
They look just as cool as the Rota's
Nice rides!

My new 72 Fairlady Z
Looks like you scored.

What has been seen can never be unseen
WOW, now that is a quote that will go down in history and it is so appropriate in this case. This is a case were a complete strip down and media blast are needed to help regain namesake.

cpexcel,
Very nicely done.

Thanks for the tip 310z! Might I add that I've saved nearly all the pics you posted in your build thread? That thing is pure beastery, no two ways about it. I especially liked the nifty kick-panel speaker boxes -- very nice touch! Being an audiophile, you're liable to see me steal that design idea from ya
Yeah, Premo's roadster is one clean machine. He regularly attends Solvang. He went there last week, actually. He attends a bunch of Roadster shows, and it's likely he's been to Shasta a few times. He used to own a dime back in the day too.
Riv-nut? What's that? A type of double-sided tape/adhesive? As much as I'd like to keep the buckets clean, they're cheap parts and I don't want to risk losing something more expensive for not wanting to damage something less expensive. But I guess with paint the buckets would amount to more.
And I'll make sure to place a call with Pettersen if some HybridZers can't help me out. I'll have to ship the stuff since Chico is a pretty long drive unless I'm picking up enough parts at once for it to be worth it.
When's the Shasta Roadster show? I'm returning to LA for the summer around May 20th, but I'll be back up here to locate a house in July. The zed will have to be up for a trip to Shasta if it's gonna take me to LA in a few weeks.
Thanks for the complements. Keith at Custom Works 530-864-5846 built the kick panels and the install. You can check out some of his work at http://www.customworksproducts.com/ He drives one Baddd gen 2 Camero street/track car but he has a Z race car.
The day my car was finished at 3:30 in the after noon it was put on a trailer and drove to the Solvang show the next morning and the Z Nationals the day after Solvang. The car new Odometer only had 0.7 miles on it at the Z Nationals. It was the kind of story that they make TV shows about.
Riv-Nut are a kind of rubber mounted Pop-Viv-it that is threaded on the inside so you always have threads to screw into.
I think the Shasta show is always the second weekend in June or July I need to look it up.

The car looks great in its stock form. Starting with a good body saves you in the long run. Your friend Dave's car looks great and he looks familiar from the Roadster shows that I attend specifically Shasta. I do not remember seeing his car, though I have many photos from the same event. Don't be in any rush to drill the head light buckets, Riv-nut work great there. Steve Pettersen is a great Z source at Perrersen Motorworks Chico, CA 530-895-3606. He will have the parts you are looking for. Steve receives a lot of work from the Bay Area. Good luck with the car. You should bring it to The Shasta Roadster Show if the Z is up to it.
432Z in Automobile Magazine March 2012
in S30 Series - 240z, 260z, 280z
Posted
I just received my March subscription of Automobile magazine and there is a article (AT THE DAWN OF THE RISING SUN)that features four sports cars built in Japan. This last year at "The Quail An Automobile Experience" at Monterey I was lucky enough to get to tag along with the owner of the 432Z and GT2000 for the weekend. He may own the Honda and Mazda also but I am not sure about these two. Really neat to get the old cars in a mainstream magazine, especially the Z.
