  1. I did a search but didnt come up with any answers. Probably an easy one but can someone tell me the easiest way to get to the guages? I need to replace the fuel gauge. Im sure Ill have to take out the heater controls etc...just wondering if there are any tricks to make this repair easier. Thnx.
  2. Which washer are you speaking of? the one that goes under the retaining bolt at the end of the stub axle or one that goes somewhere else? ' My new axle from Z Barn should be here today......washer...now you've got me worried
  3. It is snapped off and inside the housing. nothing disassembled in the pictures yet.
  4. anyone have a stub axle for a 240z that i could buy or know where i could get one?
  5. yes here are three pics showing the seperated axle....and one looking down inside at the snapped piece. if someone could resize for me, my office/word is messed up right now thnx Z axle 001.zip Z axle 002.zip Z axle 003.zip
  6. OK.. '72 240Z. I just rebuilt the carbs (ZTherapy rebuild) car is running great, strong and fast. Im haulin a bit pushing her, did 105...then relaxed went back into town. Now this is where it gets crazy. Im going about 25 when I here a clanking noise. I instantly hit the clutch and pulled over. I slowly released the clutch, same noise car does not move. It sounds exactly the same as it did when I blew the rearend out of my Tahoe. So I figure it is the rear end or the driveline (u joint) didnt even stop to think the car is independent rear suspension. So I call a tow truck get it home (100$) and jack it up. The passenger side axle is loose from the back of the wheel housing, sitting there on the lower A-arm. ?WTF? So I take off the tire and look into the CV part of the axle, there is the broken off shaft of my axle. So I removed the 4 bolts and put penetrating oil on it to get it apart. So heres my question to the guru's... why did it happen and how hard is it to put a new axle piece in there? it looks like only maybe 6 inches long?and is it the same as a 76 280z? theres one at the local junkyard. :cry2:and no Im not running a V8 just a stock L24!
  7. Your right! $44.00 ...and it will be here in 4 days! Now why didnt I think of that ? Thnx!
  8. I need a forward window guide for my 240 but all that is available is 280's. The part is not the same. The 240 has crooked mounting spots, the 280's are straight.....any ideas? Im at a loss.
  9. I failed because I was running very rich and had an intermittant miss. The smog pump is not hooked up and I dont want to go through the trouble and massive expense of making it work. I do agree with you 100% as far as having a mechanic check the rest of things out. I have looked and looked and looked but no one here in Reno works on old SU's and those 2 that do (Nissan and a high perf. shop) both charge HUGE money to correct SU's (more than new ZTherapy carbs). So I was thinking rebuild the carbs, then have a mechanic check dwell, timing etc... and go for it again. I only have a few more weks and then I have to pay the DMV more $$$$. rebuild and some greese???
  10. I was curious if anyone here has used the rebuild kit from ZTherapy and if so did you have success? I understand the kit will not correct throttle shaft leaks. I took my carbs off , the shafts arent perfectly sealed but I cant believe that much air could be wizzing by...besides air coming in would only LEAN out my mixture...I just wanna pass smog...grrrrrrrr ...I could put super thick grease over the shaft ends for smog day couldnt I?
  11. ok it failed smog again today. Not too happy. Im gonna order the SU rebuild kit from ZTherapy,,, I hope it has all I will need.
  12. I have their video and have watched it 4 times. My question was in reguards to a comment by a moderator that the mixture nut affected only idle and that as you stomp on the gas the needle is no longer seated so the mixture nut then has no affect on the running of the motor. I do agree with you that Ive probably got a vac leak somewhere but have tried carb cleaner and sprayed it around the shaft..didnt notice much change. Im only asking because I need to pass smog and have been pulling my hair out adjusting these carbs over and over... I do plan on getting some Ztherapy carbs soon but have to pass smog by the 25th of this month.
  13. So from all that I have read I would like to get something straight. The mixture nut on the bottom of the carbs ONLY affects the idle correct? At speed the only thing having affect on mixture is the needle and guide for the needle. One of the moderators here posted that and I am trying to understand it. ....and also the balancing screw on the linkage for the two carbs- (at cruising speed) I ask this because Ive been fouling plugs non stop and only until I screwed the mixture nuts all the way up does my car run great,, worn needle and guide!!! ------SO in theory you could have the most worn carbs around and as long as you can get your idle good even if you have to screw the mixing nuts ALL the way up, then your good- right? ..and of course set the floats.
  14. My 72 Z build date 3/72 has only the mechanical no electrical. Its sometimes hard to get the fuel pump to suck fuel up to the filter if its been sitting all week. hmmmm.........
  15. cmon...what do you guys think of the rustlessness of my z????
  16. OK here are some more pics of the rust-less problem areas. again sorry about the pic type..still tryin to figure out how to download pics from my new 8meg camera..... so what do you think guys,,, clean for a 72? Still in original datsun orange..like a big pumpkin. After much thought Im leaning towards Ztherapy SU's and leaving it mostly stock. Maybe some dyna mat and a stereo..will of course hold on to the old relic stereo that is in there now. camera 039.zip camera 034.zip camera 035.zip camera 042.zip
  17. Here are pics of my clean 72. What do ya think? Im still havin a bit of trouble uploading pics...not too good at that yet home at last.zip on the way home.zip long trip.zip
  18. Ya it is the worst thread title EVAR. LOL (not another board full of mean people is it ,,, not even a steroid board ) I hope I dont EVAR put a dumb title like this again. lol
  19. I paid disgustingly cheap for this car. I also just pulled out the original tool kit (black leather bag)and jack/lug wrench from the spare tire well and just went around the block, runs beautifully and fast. Is this what it feels like to win the lottery? Im tempted to hold on to it for awhile to let the joy soak in a bit. Id also like to drive it for awhile perhaps. I will post pics tomorrow.
  20. OK here we go. I bought my 72 240z (build date 3/72 HLS30-70407) with the intention of doing a v8 swap or at least going over the body with a custom look, nice stereo, tint, and see if I could be happy with the L6. This weekend was the first time I've had a chance to go over my new toy, Ive only had it for 6 or 7 days and been working so much I havent had the chance to really go over it,,,,and I bought it at night. Now the dillema.....the car is SO remarkably clean and untouched I now dont know if it would be a crime to mess with it. Its all there and in amazing shape. The original radio, the little switch raises the antenna, the original warranty paperwork under the seat, original paint code paint in very good shape, great black interior with only 2 little tiny cracks in the dash. No rust anywhere except for one little spot on the dog leg and a tiny spot on the hatchback ring. The rear defrosters work, the switch lights up. Under the hood all is 100% original. Original rims, stereo, paint, interior, tranny, motor, ....... a can of factory touch up paint in Japanese....service receipts from 1973.....lifted the carpet, spare tire, tool boxes,,,flawless. Now what? What would the rest of you do? ? ? Perfect glass, hatchback shock works, headliner looks like it left the factory yesterday....original bumpers in outstanding shape......all ID plates there.... Decisions..decisions.... any advice?
  21. Deja, Did your LT1 swap go well? Are you happy with the results? How much heavier is the LT1 setup over the original motor? Im still considering it but would relocate battery, use aluminum everything to keep weight down. -X
  22. Nope. Got it from a guy in California that needed the cash. Went up, looked at it and bought it right there. As far as the LT1....Im rethinking that as the block is cast w/ aluminum heads. Yes the LS1 is the way to go because of its all aluminum, compact, powerful, reliable features but SO EXPENSIVE!!! SO we will see. Im in the planning phase right now.
  23. OK Ive got a 1972 240z with the original aluminum mags, they look like 14x7 if Im not mistaken. My question is this: Are they good rims? Whats the widest tire I can fit on them? If I buy new rims are these originals worth anything??? Im looking for a slightly wider stance...any rim/tire combos that you coulg suggest?? Thanks
