  1. I believe that it is to balance the air pressure inside and outside of the car. For example when you shut your door fast, the extra amount of air as to go outside of the car...those vents are used for this purpose. This is from an old old thread.

  2. 1. ?

    2. A ton of fabrication is involved. Anything is possible !!!

    3. ?

    4. I beleive it is the Piston surface area that is important. We would have to verify.

    5. Not much.

    6. The vents on the hatch below the windows. After 72, the vents were the z sign above the 1/4 window.

    7. ?

    8. ?

    9. No, It has to be sanded down so the new paint will stick on the old one. I f you search there are great posts about that. If you sand parts to metal, you have to use primer on those parts. If I am wrong please correct me !!!

  3. Same thing as every other diff: Your ratchet, box 12mm, 17mm, 19mm, and 14mm I believe. You also need wrenches of the same size, for the flanges and the drive shaft. You need a breaker bar( or a pice of pipe with the ratchet) some vise grip to block some bolts from turning (drive shaft bolts) a 34mm or 36 mm to take the axles out. A long pry bar for blocking the wheel when trying to pull axle nut out. You will also need a beer for the break time (after you hit your knuckles). The whole process will take you 1-2 hours.

    Good luck

  4. I agree to Mikelly on this one:

Your PEOPLE that you HIRE will make you a success or sink you... Treat them well, and you will (SHOULD) be rewarded

As an HR consultant myself, I think your employees are the most important ressouce for success. I don't know the industry she works in, but finding another employee that does the work well (as she probably does) is an Hard task and the cost that are involve are high. It cost in average 15 000$ to hire someone that you will like an will do the work. The probation period has been way too long, if she is not treated that well it might be time for a change. As an employer as well, I would understand that getting married IS a special thing, and she probably can do extra hours to compensate for those 2 days that she'd me missing.

If I was in this situation, with the info that I know I would start looking somewhere else. As an employee you need the be rewarded as much as the owner but in a different way. From what I read, it looks like your wife likes the company more than the company likes her !!

Being fired IS a bad thing, you never want to have bad relations with ex-employers, they might hire you again in the future.

There must be a way to make everyone happy, if not the company doesn't reward her the way she needs to be !!

  5. My sheet metal cost:

-4ft x 8ft 20 guage sheet metal for the pans fo 30$ USD

    -20ft 2x3 square tube for 55$ USD

    -Channel 20 ft 4x2 for 70$. I build a 12 tons press with that!!

This is in Canada, probably the same price as in the US. This is from the supplier directly, a huge Iron shop. Try to find a supplier in the yellow pages, stores like Home Depot will rip you off big time !! From a supplier steel is cheaper than you think!!

    -Q45 Diff (R200 LSD)

-Q45 axles (just missing 2 for the conversion)

    All for 45 $ Hehe

  7. Hi everyone,

It seems (because I've search for the past hour) that there is a lot of questions concerning the emission test. I have to pass the smog test, here in Ontario Canada.

What are the ways to help getting a quick fix to pass the e-test? I have read that:

    Datsun Lover :

-Changing coolant, getting a hotter thermostat

-Putting new oil (maybe a thicker oil)

    Mas 280z

...bought some Pass emisions bottle, I put 1/2 the bottle in the tank and put the other 1/2 in the engine using a vacuum line. The next day I passed without any problem

    1. Make sure your EGR is functioning by verifying that the diaphragm is moving when you snap the throttle open. Also verify that the passages in the EGR system are not clogged by carbon deposits.

    2. Run a tank of fuel injector cleaner or similar to get the deposits out.

    3. Change the plugs, if they are old and crusty.

    4. Get some denatured alcohol from the hardware store and create a 10% mixture of that and high octane gas in your tank.

    5. Crank your ignition timing back to the low end of the specification.

    6. Make sure that the heated air flapper valve (if you have one) that helps cold start, is closed and the motor is sucking cold air.

    7. If you want to spend the $, change the O2 sensor. If not, change it if all of the above does not work!

Are there any other strategies? Can you explain the ones stated above?

I will try all those and hope for the best !!!

    Thanks guys

  8. If you do a search for 4.6 Ford, you will find info such as: it is to wide to fit without any major structural modification in the Z car engine bay. That is the main reason if I remember correctly.

It would be great to have one, go for it !!! And search

  9. Basicly it is to clean the underside of the car, the engine bay and...I want to take off the most I can before sanding a little and painting again. I didn't even know you could take paint off something with that !!!

What are you guys using your power washer for and do you think you need more PSI?

What would be a good source to find a used one?

  10. Hi guys,

I want to buy a pressure washer to clean around the house but mainly to clean my car. I am trying to get the most paint/undercoating and... off of my body shell and some parts. I want to make my job easier!!!

What pressure would you guys recommend me? I was looking at the 2000 psi and the 2400psi from simoniz. Do I really need 2400 psi, that is my question. It cost more and take more space.

What are your opinions on this one ?

    Thanks

  11. Thanks guys, this is what I needed. I am not a purist in any way, but I just bought a 1970 from San Diego without rust, 99% rust free with all the parts except it has mag wheels and not hubcaps. I guess I will have to put it in the rotisserie and just use the existent parts.

Sorry If I sound like a purist, It is just that I got a deal on that 1970 and it would be a crime to redo the frame rails, cage and...since it has no rust and all the parts are ther.

All your imputs are welcome, Yes guys you can be some pin heads since I want to restore this one as stock as possible.

    Erik

  12. HI,

I am restoring a 1970 240z for my father, and would like to know the differences between the 1970 and the 1973 chassis: In Fact all the chassis parts.

It would be easyer to take all the parts from my 73 that are laying around, sandblast them, repaint them and transfer them to my 1970 when I am ready. I like the fact that it is a rolling chassis for the moment.

    Thanks for the info.

  13. Hi Guys,

Thanks again for the inputs. Yes you are right, a body shell would be a great idea, less hours spent on repairing rust. Do some of you have a rust free shell for sale ?

I might just repair it myself, as I said I love to weld and this is a project. The Upper frame rails are but not the lower. The other route I might take is SBC400 offer on a 260z front

    half:http://usera.imagecave.com/dayz/240z/inner_fender.jpg

    http://usera.imagecave.com/dayz/240z/left_fender.jpg

He says it is surface rust and would be easier to change the front end than repairing everything.

How much would you guys pay for those two inner fenders?

I will cut all the crap this week end, I will keep you posted.
