I recently replaced my afm and coil with a msd blaster 2 and it didn't make a bit of difference. Right now i'm leaning towards a screwy ecu or maybe the valves need readjusted... The only thing I haven't replaced atm is my injectors, but i can't really see them doing that. Also.. I did buy a ecu out of a 83 turbo from a junkyard but it starts the car and instantly dies the seconds i give it gas. They absolutely refuse to take it back so that was 70 bucks down the drain. This is annoying too because the Z is so fun to drive with the ttops off. We don't really have many around iowa do to rust and crappy winters.

Well this is a problem i've been battling for a few months and I decided to see if you guys could help me out because i'm confounded. I have a 83 280zx with a 81 zxt swap in it. The car starts up, used to run great but now it drives like crap. When I go to drive, 80% of the time the car will bog down, stutter alot, possibly backfire and just generally run like crap. The noise it makes is hard to describe.... It's like if you made a farting noise with your tongue.. lol (I can throw something on youtube if you guys want to hear it) I can get through it sometimes by pressing the pedal but most of that time it just backfires and sounds god awful. I have replaced the fuel pump with a walboro, tps, fuel filter, switched over to a 83 dizzy, head temp sensor, double checked all my wires, triple checked my timing and checked for boost leaks. Have any of you heard heard of something like this? The only thing I haven't changed out yet is my afm. It was obviously opened before I bought it, but seemed to work great. Like I said.. this just started happening out of nowhere and my wallet is beginning to get unhappy from parts and shipping costs

are there differences between the 81 - 83 afm's? I could see that making the car do what it did, but on the other hand there really isn't much to those units.

To start off.. I have a 83 280zx that I recently did the turbo swap on. My engine is from a 81, I have installed a 83 dizzy, running a efi harness from a 81 that has the drop resistors bypassed and beyond that everything is stock. The car previously had a 81 turbo ecu that went bad. I tested it with a buddies that also had a 81 unit and it started, drove and all that jazz. I found a turbo ecu from a 83zxt, installed it and am having some odd problems. The car will start and idle but the second you even attempt to hit the gas it will die. Also if you pull the afm harness off the car stutters for a second but keeps on running. If memory serves when i had the 81 ecu on the car wouldn't run at all without it hooked up. I searched all the wiring diagrams that you can get and didn't find any real differences between the 81-83 setups. Is there something I'm missing here or did wiring change that would cause that to happen? any ideas?

too expensive imo. thanks though.

I'm looking for a 82-83 280zx turbo dizzy and oil spindle so i can finish the 300zx ecu/maf swap thanks

Is there a certain procedure to adjust a 1981 280zxt crank angle sensor? I got all the downloads and manuals, but they are pretty vague about the 81 bolt on cas. So far i can't find any reliable way to set it without just turning the adjustment screw blindly and starting the car to see how it runs... I should look into getting a 82-83 dizzy/cas setup but i have to make use with what I have at the moment. Any help would be much appreciated because this is driving me nuts

Potentially dumb question about dizzys

I finally got all of the original turbo stuff installed and got it fired up. The car runs pretty well despite being a smidge loud since i haven't got the exhaust done yet. My only issue is that the car absolutely refuses to exceed 4 lbs of boost. I have a mbc hooked up to the turbo / wastegate and have 0 progress with this situation. Any of you have an idea what could do this? My first thought are a faulty pov or my wastegate needs replaced. Past that who knows... i'm going to switch the mbc's line from the turbo to the intake and see if that changes anything. Any ideas would be much appreciated. -

i have the crank angle sensor hooked up. just not sure if it's actually working or not. Is there a way to check that? -

well.. i went mad scientist on my car, hooked up the 83 n/a dizzy and VOOM. It starts, runs smooth, revs smooth and doesn't miss a beat. Should i be worried or just get everything fine tuned and see how it goes? -
Alrighty... I'm super frustrated with my car and can't find parts for it so i'm looking into something that may or may not work. I have a 83 280zx with a 81 turbo motor in it. Everything is hooked up, bolted down and good to go... I'm not getting spark, assume it's the cas and can't find one to replace it. My 83 n/a dizzy seems to have the ig module / cas all inside, will bolt to my housing and fits perfectly. Is it possible to use the old dizzy from the n/a to get a crank signal and get spark or is it a futile effort and I should just hit myself with it for even thinking such things. thanks!

To start off... I have a 83 n/a 280zx that i recently dropped a 81 turbo motor in to. Everything is hooked up, looks good and is in place.. Here's my problem and quick question. I have fuel pressure, my ecu is lighting up and pulsing when i crank it, injectors are pulsing but the car won't start and i see no sign of spark. My dizzy, rotor and wires are all new and it their correct places. I've replaced my ignitor and coil with no luck. I'm reading 12v from the battery to the ignitor, coil and finally to the dizzy. The only thing i have yet to replace is my 81 CAS on the front side of the motor. If those aren't reading a signal will it keep the car from sparking? Any help would be much appreciated because i don't want to shell out a ton of money for a new cas and have it not be the issue.

Whats up guys... I'm looking for either of these to finish my turbo swap because i've still got no spark and i'm pretty sure its the 81 cas. I need to find a 81 working turbo cas or a 82-83 turbo dizzy with the cas inside it & the oil spindle. thanks!
-
i could be wrong, but there is a difference between the turbo and non turbo models.
-
everything is tight and i just replaced the rotor / cap. it's getting power to the dizzy but it's not sparking. i'm assuming it's the cas or ignitor.
-
I have a 81 turbo / wiring in my 83 280zx and don't have spark. I've narrowed it down to the front mount cas or my ignitor and was wondering if it was possible to test these? at the moment i'm getting power to everything, have power to the coil (+ and - not sure if both should be showing power) and no spark. I've searched alot and never really found much on the 81 cas's. thanks
-
I'm pretty sure after searching that this wiring schematic is dead on for my 81z turbo engine swap into a 83zx n/a. can somebody take a look at this and make sure it's correct? thanks a ton

To start off.. i've searched, have at least 15 pages bookmarked and am at a complete loss atm... I have a 83 n/a 280zx with a 81 turbo motor and harness installed. Everything looks to be wired correctly except this plug. I keep looking for the plug with the wire on the n/a wiring that runs to my ignitor with no success at all. Plus on my model the ignitor wires seem to be brown and blue instead of the black and yellow setup. Can i just manually run a wire from the 6 prong turbo engine harness straight to the ignitor and connect the few other wires that need ran or do i have to use the stock n/a stuff? Any help i can get on this is much appreciated because i'm about to start tearing out my hair.
-
do you still have the 81 zxt efi harness for sale?
-
Will a 81 harness part#24012-P7906 or 24012-P7900 plug and play into my 83 turbo ecu part # a18-603 045?
-
So in your guy's opinion would i just be better off locating a 81 turbo harness and ecu for my 81 engine or just go megasquirt. Right now i'm more interested in just getting the car running before it gets cold here.
