  1. Hey buddy, we have some JB Weld at the shop (and a lift so you don't have to work on your back). Glad to see the damage was isolated to the front yoke and not to the T-56 output shaft! Enjoyed racing with you the other night! -Terry
  2. Check your clearance with no head gasket in place: bolt the head on (lightly tight bolts not torqued), turn it 360 degrees(with clay). use a solid lifter lashed @ .012" (same spec as where a hydraulic runs at) If it spins over with no interference, obtain compressed thickness spec of the head gasket you're planning to use and add the measurement (clearance ) to the thinnest clearance on the piston crown. If you have .070" or more...you're safe. Don't run the 1.8's
  3. Well, about the short times, I will not be content until the little Z sbc project yields 1:40's in the 60'. I'm an old skool drag racer that has had many heavier cars hitting 1:40's in the 60' . Hmmm....I Ihave an aluminum headed 454 nasty roller motor ( honest 550 to 575 hp) that might just be the ticket!!!!! As easy as it was to put the sbc in this car, a big block shouldn't be a problem at all (70lbs. more weight than the sbc with the aluminum heads). Plenty of clearance under the hood. However, the sbc is performing nicely. We're going to get the alternator installed and maybe tag it for the street. I'm truly impressed with how easy these cars are to drive......arrow straight, no wiggle, or other unplesant surprises. The only discrepancy we've encountered so far is that the brakes are a little weak. Feedback from an fellow members running BBC would be welcomed and appreciated. A few pictures of my old vega....a 6:10 1/8 th mile street car but very bad manners at speed!!!
  4. Outstanding information about the Z differential guys! My knowledge is (as it relates to differential technology is limited), but I am certaimly a beliver in their stregnth now! I think our converter (2400 rpm) is too tight to allow the sbc to maximize the rpm range that it needs to work in (2500-6500). I hope to reach out to some of my racing buddies and borrow one with more stall speed. We added a good set of 10" slicks last weekend and traction is no longer a problem. Adding a 3500 stall should really pick up the 60' times and overall ET's. These cars are fun to drive and always brings a smile to racers at the track (i.e.-Ford/ Chevy/ Mopar camp). Watch out Keith we're coming for that LS car soon! LOL! Thanks to all members for any information. This is a top notch site!
  5. Hey Keith! Terry here. I'm now a new member to this site. Thanks for the invite. We had a blast last Friday night racing our stock bore /stroke 350 SBC Z against your LS powered Z. Man, your car looks great and runs awesome! The only real performance items in the motor in our car is a mild comp cams solid roller cam, victor jr. intake, and a 750 holley double pumper carb (just a bunch of parts I had laying around the shop). It's a budget motor to say the least. Can't wait to get together again, race, and talk tech about the differentals and maintenance suggestions on these cars. Got to get some Zzzzzz's (no pun intended ) Have a great week, and we'll get together soon! Regards, Terry
