I have them on my 260, but I can't find anything on the internet about them let alone another zcar with them. Are they stock? Are they rare?

Thanks guys! Next thing on the list will be to look into setting the mixture. The carbs have been synced at a shop, so I don't have to worry about that. I am bidding on a E88 (rebuilt + unleaded compliant) on ebay and am wondering all what will be involved to put in on. Will I need new studs for the block / head? New Head gasket? (no leaks currently) Intake manifold and exhaust header bolts? A new valve cover gasket? A tool to remove/install the timing chain? What work should be done on the head before going on? Dremel + brass brush to valves / chamber and bottom of head? How long will this take? Two days? Sorry I'm such a newb

Went and got a timing gun ( with a tach) and set it to factory 8 before top dead center and it ran like rap. It would hesistate and backfire when giving it gas. So we manually advanced the distrib and where we could make it run better and get rid of most of the hesitation is at 18 degrees BDC. It's kinda confusing but it works. Also I noticed that on the electrical diagrams, there should be two greens and a yellow running into the distrib, but mine only has the greens and there is no cut yellow in site. Is there anyway to id a year's distrib? (This car is such a hodpodge of parts and I think monkeys have previously worked on it)

Well, I am unsure of it's current condition (has a misfire - haven't had the chance to inspect plugs, could be valves?). And if it's cheaper to buy a used one off of a later car and have tuned up, I'd rather do that (and maybe a performance benefit?).

What stock heads off of later models can I use? FYI- I have 240 SU's on it.

I'd rather not have to buy a whole new Distributor because the VA doesn't work. Is there any place that I could get a new VA? Symptoms: When punching the gas it hesitates quite a bit, horrible mileage and some smoke. When hooking up the VA to the constant vacuum (it has 240z SU's) the engine revs up a little, but with the variable vacuum port on the carbs, there is no effect when reving the engine. So that's why we think the VA is failing. Also, does anyone know what the stock timing is for the L26? It doesn't run too well when it was where I got it. We manually advanced it a little w/o a timing gun and it does run a little smoother.

It does pop and backfire when I punch the gas with the choke off (ie starting at low idle).

I have some trouble. I'm pretty new to all this and would rather ask you guys for advice then to continue on my own. My car has 38k or 138k miles on it (prob 130k). Someone has put 240 carbs on it, but I'm not sure if they have rebuilt the head (w/ hardened seats or unleaded gas). It has an E88 head and the the intake manifold has an E36 or something stamped on them. Also has a K&N. Symptoms: Hesitates when giving gas and likes to have the choke on a little bit. When the choke is off (low idle) it hesitates, but with the choke on (raising the idle) it responds a lot better to giving it gas. It also gets horrible mileage. Current Diagnosis: There is a cylinder definitely missing (valve problem? all wires at distrib are getting spark), the vacuum advance isn't working. Runs really rich. Solution: New distributor (or a new vacuum advance, can I buy one somewhere?), rebuild the carbs? Get the head rebuilt for unleaded gas or try to get a head from a later car that can run on unleaded? I'm not sure what the issue is or where to begin, any help is much appreciated! -Buma

I just got my Z back 1.5 weeks ago and I haven't seen your's there for a long time. I really want to stop and check yours out and see what you've done to it. PM me or msg me so we can meet up! I need my carbs rejetted (added a k&N and seems to like running with the choke on a little bit - running lean?) and I have been told have the head rebuilt (hardened valve seats) for unleaded gas. Can I just replace it with a later model one? Does Gundy's have them? Where is this local pick'n pull? -Buma

What's a 260z? lol, I took what I could get! This is my first Z and am loving it so far. Thanks to my keyword / google hacking skills, I found this beauty for $800 on craigslist under such a poorly worded title that no one had found it! I just put in a CD deck and have an Ipod charging/music input station where the ashtray used to be. Since I had the bumpers sucked in I have the remains for sale along with the A/C airbox here: http://forums.hybridz.org/showthread.php?t=134075 There are too many plans to list for the thing. First will be redoing the suspension with shorter springs, new shocks and new bushings all around. I am also going to dynamat it and put some black carpet in (keeping the vynal) The tranny is going so eventually I will put in an import (SR20DET?) or a domestic V8, all hail Hybridz! Other things on my list include full exhaust, further detailing with emblems (painting existing), painting the louvers, brighter headlights, front air dam and rear BSA spoiler, new wheels and tires, automatic antenna, some speakers (not just one stock one lol).
