  1. I'm reaching out here because if I read one more article on what a Torque Converter does that doesn't tell me how to at least get a ball park on which stall converter to go with I'm going to pull my hair out. :-)

I'm just looking for advice, here is what I'm working with:

I have a SBC 350 with stock heads, rpm performer intake, Lunati voodoo cam, and everything else stock(About 350HP). I have a built 700R4. I have the R180 with the 370 gears(I know, it's the odd one) diff. Lunati says the cam "likes 2800 stall" but I think I'm bit underpowered based on what I've read for that high. I'm thinking 2500 but would love to hear some ones opinion who knows what they are talking about(because I don't). Any other questions or details you might need, feel free to ask.

    Thanks

    Stephen

  2. Hmm, are you sure you don't have a transmission problem? 3300-3500 makes sense for 3rd gear but you might have a bigger problem with that in your final gear. As silly as it sounds, are you also sure that it's a 700R4? I ask because I was sold a car with a Powerdrive only to find out it had a Turbo 350 in it. The guy wasn't feeling the first shift and assumed it was only shifting once. According to the numbers, the 3.54 gears should put you at 2200rpms but that assumes you don't have another issue.

    Thanks

    Stephen

  3. I'm going to tell you how I would approach this as its the same way that I've approached buying both of my Z's. To me, it was Unicorn and to the seller it is as well but to most people, its not. He has a very small market. He needs somebody that not only wants a Z but will take it modified. Its a tough sell and depending on how long he's been trying to sell it he has probably found this. It looks clean and you should definitely get it up on a rack. But I'd start lower. I'd say 7,200 to get started. Its low but not so low that he just walks away. TV shows have gotten us all to the point where we wheel and deal. He will want to, I assure you. I promise you will find something or want to change something and every penny you save on the purchase price will help you make this car what you want. I'm not saying you should do anything underhanded but use supply and demand to your benefit.

  4. I'm coming out to the Northshore to "visit" my father in law who happens to be a welder and has a pipe bending machine. I may need to put some finishing touches on the exhaust. If it works out that I have it when I come that direction then you'll be welcome to check it out.

  5. I can't bring myself to cut my perfectly good AC panel to mount the knobs. I am hoping I can get some sandwich action going on with a piece of metal wrapped around the back and a piece of ABS wedging in from the front, with the threaded knobs applying the squeeze to it.

I have a busted up panel that I'll trade for your good one if that will make it easier on you. lol

  6. Well Rob, if I order them then maybe we can get together and let you check them out. I'm all over the place on decisions. I found out earlier this week that they are basically going to have to repaint the entire rear of my car for some damage done to the rear fiberglass bumper. I'm thinking about taking the car a completely new direction. If I do I will have these bumpers in the next couple weeks.

  7. I figured I would ask this question before I made my purchase. MSA offers these chrome front and rear bumpers.

Now, not to be too negative, but if there is one thing I've learned about MSA it's that they don't make anything themselves. Usually they find someone else making the product, mark it up a ton and then sell it exclusively(or with thezsource).

Anyway, the question is does anybody know from where they are sourcing these bumpers? I'm willing to spend the $800 it's going to take to get them but I figured I would see if anybody knew the source before I did.

    Thanks

    Stephen

  8. I'm going to POR-15 my floors, then a butyl rubber with aluminum backing (hushmat), then the CSF from lobucrod.  Should really be nice when done.

I ended up getting 25 square feet of the mega mat by fatmat to put into the passenger area and around a fuel cell can that I have. I'm ordering the carpet kit from thezsource unless you guys have something better for that?

    Thanks again for the replies

  9. Thanks guys! I looked at a bunch of different products and I just can't seem to get excited about any of it. I looked at lizard skin but I kind of have an extreme case in both sound and heat where I felt it wouldn't be enough on its own. I really wanted something that would reflect and absorb on the bottom side because that console is hot. Im thinking this underneath the car http://store.secondskinaudio.com/1-sheet-of-thermal-block/

I found this stuff tonight for the inside.

http://www.lobucrod.com . I was leaning towards a butyl or rubber based material because I was scared of it holding moisture but at that price I may have to take a shot.

  10. Hey guys, I've been doing some research but I can't seem to find a moderately priced decent solution to this problem. My exhaust is run down my transmission tunnel. That along with my transmission is making my console area really hot. In addition, the noise inside my cabin is really loud. After about 20 minutes in the car, I get out with my ears ringing.

I've looked at some different solutions. The one I'm leaning toward is a thermal shield to run down the tunnel on the bottom of the car and Second Skin Damplifier Pro in the interior. This is a $300 to $400 solution depending on how much I'm going to need for the interior.

I'd love to hear some other options. What have you guys done?

    Thanks

    Stephen

  11. All of the cars share body panels, hood, and fenders. The bumpers do differ from year to year. The dimensions stayed the same and the space in all is about the same. There are minor interior differences between the different years. There was a 2+2 version of the 260 and 280z  that included a small rear seat.

Here is a link to a Wiki article that helped me understand some of the differences. It might help you better understand what you're after.

  12. I've talked to a couple notaries and they seem to be more firm on it than the DMV. Lol. I also have a cousin in the DMV who has talked to everyone and the bonded title is an instant closed door. I'm waiting on some paperwork from Mississippi as I have one more shot. The person that was driving the car was likely the dealer that had it before the guy I bought it from. He took the car as a trade in and drove it around for a while from what I understand.

  13. Socorob, do we have any worthwhile car clubs around? I've seen the Gulf Coast Z car club and I don't want to offend anybody but the whole website is 350z and 370z's. I know you're a bit further south than me but I'm hoping that you have some insight.

    Thanks

    Stephen

  14. We actually have a law here in Louisiana now that will allow you to register a car with no title as long as it's 25 years or older and there is no record of ownership. It's a bit of a hassle since it's only been around for about 6 months and nobody at the DMV knows about it. The problem with this one is that it has a title lol

  15. There would be a work around if there was no title but because the car was registered in Mississippi just 2 years ago it creates an issue. The "work around" in our backward state is to find a tow yard that will get you an abandoned title on the vehicle. Basically, you park your car at that lot for x number of days at which point they apply for a title based on the car being abandoned. Most places do it but the DMV really frowns on it. Cost about $300 but there is some risk. Other option is of course to sell the car to someone in Mississippi but the other side of this is that it's probably worth more as a parts car. I talked to my dad last night and he's interested in making it either a drag or road course car which might be the best of both worlds. We could part out a good bit and keep what we need.

If anybody is interested in schooling me, which parts are most sought after? How should I determine pricing? Ebay seems way overpriced. I try to research on this and similar sites but at some point somebody decided that everyone should replace their prices with the word 'sold' so I have no idea what things should cost.
