  1. I just checked some things online, and one answer I found had to do with the throttle position sensor, and the ecm. It said something about watching the rpms as you turn the car over, if the needle rises up off zero while cranking, the ecm is giveing the go ahead to start. Im guessing its not the ecm cause the needle moves up when trying to start. Something I prolly should have mentioned is that the oil pressure sometimes is operating around mid-range, sometimes it sits low, the lite on the oil pressure guage is always on.
  2. Ok so, brand new altenator, plugs, wires, distributor cap n rotar, new coil, new starter, new battery, still shutting off. Wolden Ill get the checking the oil pressure senors, its been raining alot and i dont have a garage to work in. Should I go and replace the ingniton module too? The check light on my dash flashes battery, but most of the elctronics to the battery are new. Other then the ingiton module and oil pressure sensors i have no idea what to check next, any help is greatly appresciated, and thanks for the help already. Jerry
  3. to update so far. I replaced the coil, still shutting off. So from turning it over so much to get it goin again the starter went, go one from a junkard at good price, was good, til i went to autozone. I had to test my altenator, tested bad, so i was going to get a new one. I took the starter i bought to get tested too, just to make sure, and the kid hooked it up wrong and it arched and fried the starter, the manger told me that the arch was from "just a bad connection" when the kid hooked it up to the altenator bracket (which was metal) and thats what caused the arch. The manager refused to replace the starter because he has more "experience" than me, (when my father told me it was the kids fault the starter tested bad, he used to rebuild starters) so as of now i have just enough to get the altenator, and it looks as Im beat for the 40$ i spent on the starter case i cant afford 70$ for a new one, til i got home and my father called corporate. Yea that ass at autozone, WILL NOT be happy when corporate says he has to give me a new starter. So to say Im pretty pissed right now. Will let everyone know how it goes when i get the altenator and starter. Jerry
  4. Both. My oil pressure is alright when i first start it up. but im replaceing the ignition coil today. Its broke so the wire doesnt stay in there tight, and the only thing that suhts off is the motor, all of my electrical stays on, lights and everything. It seems that the spark is cut from the motor.
  5. Just crusin down the road my engine will shut off. I can turn key and start right back up, or i can pop it and start right back up. I talked to someone at a parts store, he said check the altenator. I think its a valid point, but could it be fuel cut? Or would the car not start right back up if it was fuel cut? Anyone else have problems like this?
  6. its not of extreme improtants right now, but my heat and A/C doesnt work in my 280zx. I was thinking heater core, maybe a relay. My windows roll down so thats why its not important right now, but if I am forced to drvie this through the winter, (which i DO NOT want to do cause of the rust it has) im going to need heat and defrost. I just dont want to go out and spend the little money i have on a heater core or this and that which might not be the problem. Anything else i should be looking towards as far a the heat and things that dont work? Or am I just asking a stupid question?
  7. The windshield wipers dont work in my zx. When i turn them on i can hear a click but they dont move. Im thinking its the relay. Is the relay located on the box underneath the hood? Cause one of the relays there are missing, I have 4 out of 5 under there. Thanks, Jerry
  8. thanks for the input. Im gunna get the JTR manual fairly soon, as for the swap its going to be a bit before i can get th emoney for it. Insted of me just picking up the motor and starting from the ground, im going to find an older chevy car of truck with the 350 in it, so that way I will have everythin needed except for the tranny cross member and the motor mounts. As far as the drive shaft and rear-end goes, I will probably use the stock rear-end if it holds up and I can take the two drive shafts to Connecticut drive shaft, (seems I live in CT) and they can spilce the two together. Will update as things progress, but as the way its going this might be my winter project. Jerry
  9. 150, and seems like itd still pull. stock 280zx all around. l28. stock tires n rims. stock gear ratios, i believe 363? maybe. 6500rpms. and i will never do it again cause it sounded like it will blow up.
  10. Appreciate it magnum. Where can I get the jtr manual? I called local parts stores and they say that the only manuals available to them are Hanes and Chilton.
  11. So in my 79 280zx, Im doing a carb. chevy small block 350. I know I need motor mounts, radiator, elec. fan, cross member. Thats what I know i need to do this swap and I know there is more. Can you all help me out and let me know what else I need to do this swap? Any info. is much appreciated. And will the stock tranny hold up to the torque a 350 puts out? And what kind of $ damage am I looking at for the complete swap? (If anyone has any idea) Thanks all, Jerry
  12. Trust i know a turbo isnt just bolt on and go. It was just an easy way of putting it. Im going to be rebuilding my motor before I put it on.
  13. Would I be able to put a nice size 17' rim on my 280? My buddy has a set of 17 that look good on my car, the lugs fit but i need axle spacers cause the rims wont fit over the hub. Im thinkin that 8mm spacers would do it, but i dont know if the 17's would rub, I dont think clearance wise it would rub while the wheel is straight, but i think it might when it is cut. Im just wondering if they are too big so I dont waste the money on the spacers. Thanks, Jerry
  14. Well the title says it all. I am looking for a turbo kit for my 79' 280zx. Nothing special, i just want a stock turbo kit so I can bolt it on. I just wanna give the car a little more pick up. Any one have one or knows where I can get one used for cheap. If it has to be I will rebuild the turbo, I just want one. Thanks, Jerry
