i had a similar issue and it was because i had a huge vaccum leak. those vaccum hoses are very old and it becomes common for them to have wear and tear

ZXT swap is probably the best choice and I have been able to find some whole donor cars for very cheap ($500) on craigslist but it's located far from where I am so it doesnt do me any good. Also, instead of doing the swap there's also the option of just buying a good shape ZXT but then i'd have to sell my NA 280zx first. I'm still trying to weigh out some options.

Thanks for the help Captainnapalm! I think the headlights are dim because of a bad ground, I will check on it tomorrow! Also, my headlight switch does have cruise control so i will check on one of the same year with cruise control. Thanks! -
So yeah.. the headlight switch went bad on my 1982 datsun 280zx and i've been looking for one to replace it with. so far i found three from the years 1979-1983 on ebay. all of them said that it'd work for my car or any from 1979-1983. that's not the case! i bought one from another 1982 280zx and it was very different from mine. i also have a 1979 as a part car and that headlight switch was different from mine as well. then i found another one from ebay that's different. how many different headlight switch assembly could there be??!!! also, my headlight is super dim and very hard to see at night. is that normal for a 280zx? my options for that are: getting HIDs or waiting to find a replacement for my headlight switch and drive around with high beams hahaha

Hello HybridZ members, I recently bought a 1982 Datsun 280zx Non-Turbo Coupe. It's a decent car and I'ev been working on restoring a lot of it and it's almost complete after many hours and burning lots of holes in my wallet (ouch). Now for the next step! I want to make this car run a lot faster! It feels very slow right now, possibily the slowest car in the world! I don't have much knowledge and experience on these Datsun Z cars at all. What are some ways to get this car to run 13s to 14s in the 1/4 mile and still have high reliability. It would be nice if I could just safely slap a turbo kit on it with minor upgrades. Is there a possibility for that? If so, what upgrades should be added to get the car turbo ready? Also, are there very much difference between the turbo and non turbo engines and transmissions? If so, what are the main differences? Thanks! And sorry for the dumb questions!

i sure hope you are right! if that is the case then you've just made my day. because i can look around for turbo manifolds and a stock turbo and fuel injectors. i rather it run rich than lean as well. what do you think JerryB? will the car run well without the turbo electronics? if i had a second car for a daily driver i'd definately try it, unfortunately this is my daily driver and only vehicle.
