  1. Hi Will, my name is Peter and i live in Milwaukee. I would contact Bob Bennett from Bennett Coachworks in Milwaukee. Bob and his team have done some of the most amazing projects and restorations ive ever seen. Bob has a soft spot for 240's. He is an absolute fountain of knowledge regarding the 240. Here's a link to his website, best of luck! http://www.hotrodbuilders.com/Default.aspx
  2. WOW, that is a dynomite looking car! I love that wood wheel! What kind of HP numbers is that car pushing! You are Going to have a Fu#%^~g blast with that car!!! PLATA, that must have been a hard car to give up!
  3. Congrats Hoover!!!! We need some pics, lets see it!
  4. Hoover123, your right, that's kinda been the feedback we have been getting from not only other "Z" enthusiasts, but other car enthisiasts in general. These all original rust free examples are getting very hard to find. Before we bought the car, it had not been driven since 1982! The first time we got the car running we where blown away that everything worked! Zero electrical issues!Thank god my partner in crime on these projects is an Infiniti master technician as well as a Cobb pro tuner and general Datsun/Nissan junky who owns and runs his own performance shop. In the last couple of weeks we have mounted and balanced 4 new tires. New front and rear brake hoses including rebuild kit for the fronts and rear drums. new clutch master and brake master. Drained and filled all fluids ( trans, diff, oil, and coolant). Used redline for the trans and diff. New battery. Our dream is a 2011 GTR swap. As i mentioned in my first post, we had no intention of selling but my partner in this venture informed me a few weeks ago that he and his wife are expecting there first child!!! Long story short, we have 2 Datsun projects and his wife said he can't keep both and one has to go. We are torn because we have this amazing 240 and also own original Scarab #157. That scarab we found about a year ago and needs a complete restoration but it's complete and all there. Has a ton of provenance that came with the car. We would love to keep them both but have decided to keep just one project. Which car we are going to keep is still undecided. Best of luck in your search!
  5. I guess I would call it more like a surface rust. There is almost no clear coat left on the car thanks to 43 years in that hot Arizona sun. I was blown away when I saw the shape of the car. Here are a few pics of the paper work I got with the car that explains the drivers side dent on the door and fender. The one pic is the women's actual hand written note she left on the Datsun when she hit it. From the insurance report, the women hit the 240 with a 1973 pinto! The accident happened 9/26/77 in Huntington Beach California. Check out those labor rates to fix the car back in 1977! 15 hours of work at $12 an hour!
  6. The damage you see on the drivers door and front fender was from a women who backed into the car in a parking lot. I actually have the womans hand written note as well as the insurance papers with estimates for the repair. I will shoot a few pics of those items and post them up. The right rear dent was from the owners wife who drove into it with her truck. They never fixed either of the issues. As you can see from the pics of the rear of the car, it's 100% rust free on those dents!!! Shows what that hot dry Arizona air does to preserve a car. If that happened in Wisconsin or out east where you live, the car would be shot. I do have a complete rust free rear hatch and right rear quarter piece that I have for the repair. Both very easy fixes!!
  7. If you are looking at going the route of building one from the ground up. I have a the perfect car for you. A 1973 one owner Arizona car that is 99% rust free with 60,600 original miles on it. I was not actively looking to sell but for the right price/offer I would strongly consider! We picked the car up last December. The car is now located in Wisconsin. Here are a few pics. If you have any questions, let me know.
  8. Gvincent, i don't know if it's just me but your videos of your exhaust don't work. Anyone else having an issue viewing the videos?
  9. Hi CruxGNZ, from your location of Brookfield, we are not far apart. I live in Mequon. The Scarab is kept 15 minutes North of me in Port Washington. Brookfield to Port is 35 minutes maybe 40. When you get some free time, email me at pdane70@yahoo.com and we can set up a date and time for you to drive up and take a look at it and start it up for you. We also have a really nice all original Arizona one owner 73 240Z up there that i can show you to. Not sure what the plan is for this one yet. Here are a few pics of the car.
  10. Here is a bit more info i pulled from my copy of the Z Car Enthusiasts Guide regarding a rear spoiler and a whale tail.
  11. That exhaust is so cool!!! Thanks for the details on how you did it. If you have a video clip of that exhaust, post it up. I along with others on this forum would love to hear that thing! The Scarab brochures are also really cool to see!
  12. gvincent, your car is incredible looking!!! What exhaust is on there? Love the color combo you chose! Would love to see more pics of yours and the other Scarabs you have. I quickly found out that not one of the original Scarabs was built like the other. There are lots of similarities but every pic i have seen of one so far are all different. Here are a few pics of the original order form with the options on our Scarab. I've had several people tell me that this was a pretty highly optioned Scarab.
  13. Hi All, here's a short video of the exhaust note on the Scarab I took yesterday (3/5/15). I can never get sick of this sound! Turn up your speakers, https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=zL5qjuwNPnA
  14. Here are a bunch of pics of the original Scarab whale tail i was talking about in my above reply. I took these pics today, 3/5/15. We are planning a complete restoration of the Scarab. As many of you know, having molds made of body parts and having them done right, is both expensive and very time consuming. If there is enough interest, we would love to produce the whale tail. So far the response from people who have seen the car in person as well as the forums is to produce the whole body kit if we could. There is a growing group who are also pushing for the hood to be done (see pics). I included a couple of pics of how the car looked when it was in perfect condition and was used as one of the cars in the Z car enthusiast book. I also attached a pic of the 240 as it looked before Brian Morrow did the conversion back in 1979. Sorry for the quality of some of the pics, i took them with my Ipad. Any and all input, thoughts and comments would be much appreciated. Here's a link to a video i took yesterday of the Scarab exhaust sound. Music to my ears! https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=zL5qjuwNPnA
  15. About 5 months ago i purchased original scarab #157. We are planning a full restoration on the car. We are actually looking into re-producing the entire Scarab body kit from this car including the whale tail and the hood. We have talked to lots of "Z" owners regarding the restoration of the scarab. Just about everyone who we talk to or has seen the car in person says they would be very interested in a reproduced scarab body kit if we decided to make them. We are definitely going to be looking into this. I will keep you and everyone else posted to how things are progressing. If you have any questions, let me know. Here are a few pics of the car without the whale tail on. I'm planning on getting some pics with the tail on in the next few days and will post those up to.
  16. For those who have not been to or seen Road America, here are a few on board videos of the track. The first one is a vintage Datsun 510, his first time with that car on this track, very cool! The first video is over 30 minutes long but is very clear. Watch the first couple laps it takes about 4 or 5 minutes and you get the idea of the track. The second is a a much quicker lap in a new BMW Z4 GTE with great commentary. Once the Scarab is complete, i want to get it out on the track and stretch its legs!!! ENJOY!
  17. Thanks 310z! I just was looking at the other pics of your 240, WOW, it's amazing looking!!! You are 100% correct on not taking shortcuts with the restoration. I'm taking this adventure on with my good friend Aaron who happens to be a certified master tech for Nissan and Infiniti. He's an absolute perfectionist and told me he will only do this project the right way and not cut any corners. Aaron is a pro tuner that owns his own performance shop with a brand new AWD mustang dyno. We live about 45 minutes south of one of the greatest road course tracks in the world, Road America! He has a lot of clients who race up there.I was actually just up there tonight for a sunset cruise with my 9 year old nephew for his birthday. I turned him into a huge race fan and he loves Road America. The sunset cruise is really cool, for $20 you get to drive 3.5 laps on the track with your own car. If any of you have ever been to Road America, you know the history and how cool the track is. It sits on 640 acres has 14 turns and 1 lap is just over 4 miles long. Lots of elevation changes! The reason i mentioned Road America is i told Aaron i want the car ready for "the Hawk with Brian Redman" vintage car weekend for 2015 at Road America. It may happen, we shall see. I promise you all to post pics and videos as things happen.
  18. I was not not the one running the ad. I actually work with the the guy who was the second owner from 1990 until we bought it a few weeks ago. About a month ago he mentioned that he owned an original Scarab. I knew how rare they are and at first thought it was one of the Scarab kits that had been sold or a reproduction. A few days later i stopped by his house after work to take a look at the car and sure enough, there in his driveway sat original Scarab #157!
  19. Thanks to all for the warm welcome! To answer the question about the availability of reproduction fenders. As far as i know, i do not know of any reproduction fenders or body kits in this style, but perhaps scarab 155 can chime in with any info regarding the fenders or bodykit. I will say that i have been approached by at least a handful of people so far that have asked if i was to make molds of the body kit during the restoration, that they would love to buy one for there car. What do you guys think? Would anyone have any interest in a complete body kit for there "Z"? I mentioned the idea to my partners on this project and if there was enough people interested in the body kits, we would strongly consider it. If we did reproduce them from an original Scarab, i'm thinking we gotta go carbon fiber!
  20. The wheels had been changed on the order sheet from the BBS modular magnesium wheels to a set of Carroll Shelby Mini-Europas.
  21. Here is a pic of the car in May of 1979 before it was converted. Along with the original Scarab order sheet for this car. The other pics are of a original Scarab order blank and the hand written letter to Wayne from a woman at Scarab telling him about his I.D. plate for the car. Original 1980 Scarab catalog. As i continue to sort through all the stuff that came with the car, i will post pics.
