  1. Bout time I got my share in here too. It may very well be the least desirable 240 made. A 73 with an auto! It's my most desired car ever though as I've owned it for almost a month and haven't seen it in person yet. Once I get my hands on it, I'm gonna be fixing it up and probably using it as a guinea pig while I work on my welding engineering degree. See what I can make custom and what I can improve upon. The autos days are numbered and I'm gonna eventually build up the L28 it came with (Turbo engine, otherwise I'd swap it right in). I'm really hyped up about it but won't be able to touch it until at least thanksgiving!
  2. Looks better. I love the Jaaaaaaaaaag but our breed wins. Also love the Pulp Fiction plate haha I've had that thought too.
  3. Yeah it's pretty much just balancing which boring we want. We'd probably end up camping in the sierras, so that's my reasoning to prefer that route. Though I camped in Cedar Breaks in southern Utah last time on the 15 and that was pretty sweet. What's up with Wendover and Pahrump?
  4. I totally understand where you're coming from and the benefits to EFI are a given. What I meant by the performance level was in my specific case with this car. As for low performance EFI I bought my second truck, an 1985 4Runner, because of the EFI after my carbed pickup got stolen. It's a huge improvement over the carb, without a doubt. ' Anyways, I'm not even sure how this topic came up, so, moving on? Our route isn't set in stone yet but the quickest way there would be through the dessert on the 15 through Las Vegas, but thats boring to me. Other option would be to go up the 395 and hook east at lake Tahoe on the 80. Either route will take us two days, but this is a long time in the future and completely up in the air as of right now.
  5. Going EFI means that I've also built some kind of beast of an engine, at least to me, that carbs just couldn't handle. Obviously EFI is factually better, but for the average, or even above average Z, I don't see it being worth while. This is a 40 year old car, it'll never be perfect and that isn't my objective with it anyways.
  6. Cool. I'm already planning on pretty much everything you said, so I think I got it covered. Good tip on the battery though, thats something I wouldn't have thought of, thanks!
  7. For better or worse we won't have a chaser haha. Just me and my buddy. We have both worked on all our own cars and he's currently a Porsche mechanic, and I worked as a mechanic briefly as well too. So we'll see how well that goes... I'm not sure what size the holley is actually, I would assume the 390 but I can't really go out and check. My intention is to freshen up the SUs when I get the car back and replace the holley with those. I know it's probably not necessary but, hey, I like twin carbs and could sell the holley for more than the SUs (I would think, It's the AZC intake). Since you mentioned it, what spares would you take along for my drive back? Obviously I'll be trying to replace whatever parts may give me trouble before hand (brakes, cooling, suspension and steering parts, big tune up, clean fuel tank, get some gauges working...). Would converting to the elect. distributor be worth while?
  8. Yeah, I get the searching, and I got the FSM and a manual months before I even bought the car. Sorry for the dumb question, It's hard working on a car you've never seen through the phone haha. Was just trying to get a better inventory of the parts I have. I just couldn't tell exactly what part it was, and you guys cleared that up, so thanks. As for plugging the smog junk, I never did get why people plug up the PCV... Just seems like a bad idea. The new plan is to have my friend rebuild the Holley and get the car running good, then once I have time from work and school, I'll head down there for a week to finish up a bunch of reliability work on it to prep for the 800 mile drive back. Then I can really get to wrenching on it myself.
  9. Cool, I see it now. I guess the picture is at a funny angle and I couldn't see the parts that would mate to the intake manifold.
  10. Are you saying it's the balance tube? That was my first thought but I guess I don't recognize it or something. And thanks for that link, pretty informative.
  11. So my 240z is currently 800 miles away in California and my friend and I are trying to swap a set of SUs in place of the junk Holley on there now. Obviously this is a bit difficult for me cause all I have to go by is what I'm told over the phone and the wrong pictures my dad sends me. Can someone tell me what part this is? He sent this picture to me with the rest of the intake/carb parts, so I assume it's in that system. It's probably from a 73 240 or maybe a 280zx Turbo, though anything's possible. Thanks for any help
  12. Well, I would like to use the T5, mainly because I already have it, and because I've heard it's at the very least an okay trans. The car is a long long way from being fully built so if the trans isn't perfect, that isn't that big of a deal to me yet. Three on the tree would be better than an auto to me. And as for Throwing the turbo engine in there; I don't want to do that yet. I know the L24 in the car will get me 800 miles back to utah, the turbo engine is just a long block that's been sitting outside for a couple years. I have no clue if it does anything but spin. And also, why would I want a N/A engine with lower compression? I can't imagine the turbo engine being very good without a turbo (I don't have the turbo intake, exhaust or any of those bits). I'll look into the KA trans swap as I just met a guy that does a lot of 240sx work here in town, and he said he has a lot of parts for Zs as well, but if the T5 can fit in without a crap load of head aches (I'm pretty much positive it will) then thats the route I'll go.
  13. So the 240 I just bought currently has an automatic, which I will refuse to accept as sufficient. It did come with a zx turbo motor and trans though. I've been looking all over google and the various forums and have yet to find a definitive answer to what exactly needs to be done to put the T5 up to an L24. I know I will need the flywheel, clutch kit, pilot bushing, all the hydraulics and pedals, drive shaft yoke, and some crossmember work. Question is, what has everybody found to be the best way to go about the xmember? Did Nissan use a special clutch in the turbo, or is it the same as the 2+2? Thanks, Pete
