  1. Originally I was just browsing through Ebay and forums hopefully trying to pickup an L28ET. I almost bought one and the guy ended up not being able to sell to me because the days he needed the engine gone and the day my uncle could pick it up did not match. Well that was a pretty big bummer, so I looked on Ebay and could not find a reasonably priced L28ET. I gave up on the option of finding an L28ET and started looking into the RB swaps. I settled on the RB25 and convinced myself that I would be fine with all the mounts and stuff. I added up the total and realized it was completely out of my budget. I looked into an SR20 and again, that was out of my budget. But while browsing through ebay for an engine, I managed to find a 200ZR RB20DET. This came with the rear sump oil pan I needed! It also came with a 5 speed, turbo, and the ECU. Ended up spending all of the money I had ($800) and with $200 from my father, I purchased the engine and paypal'd the guy money. 

     

    A week of not being able to sleep from the excitement of having an engine shipped to my house, it finally came (12/23/15). My RB20DET out of a 200ZR!

  2. Do you have a divided manifold? If not it'll make the spool that much crappier with a divided housing. That turbo will definitely get you to 400 with the other supporting mods. 

    I plan on a top mount divided manifold. 

     

    I'm just deciding on what turbo I should run on my RB20

  3. Why not turbocharge your L28E?  All the same parts bolt to it, and for modest boost levels the slightly higher compression does not make a difference.

    Because I didn't know I could do that.

     

    But that option is no longer available to me, I specified in my senior paper that I would like to engine swap a car. I originally wanted an L28ET because of this http://www.classiczcars.com/topic/9708-differences-between-l28-and-l28et/ page explaining that unless I want more 250hp the L28ET swap would be a better choice. I wanted to prepare myself for the future when I know I will want more power. 

  4. I can not find an L28ET through Ebay or locally through craigslist in Colorado and I thought I would ask you guys.

     

    I am in the midst of creating a plan for my senior project which is engine swapping my 77 280z and am waiting on the paper to be approved (if not I'll still do something related to an engine swap like ECU Reprogramming and go megasquirt), I have planned on either swapping in an RB20DET or an L28ET but cannot find a price that will help my budget. RB20's on Ebay fetch for around $1000 and shipping would be an added $500. I've tried finding an L28ET on Ebay and have only found one for $550, sadly I didn't have any money for that and couldn't buy it. I have looked through car-parts.com and have only been able to find L28ET's for around the same price, but I have no pictures to base my decision off of. 

     

    There are many experienced Datsun users on this forum and if many of you are like my automotive instructor, you will have many spare parts laying around. I'm asking if you guys could help me out, I haven't found any L28ET's for sale and would like to be prepared for when the time comes for my senior project. I am only in high school and have a budget of 1000 for an engine. I have managed to scrap up $600 and my father will help pay for the shipping.

  5. I've done some googling and nothing has come up with skyline seats in a 280z.

     

     

    I giving these seats an option because

    a) I'm to fat for bucket seats

    b ) I need a seat for the passenger and the driver

    c) I want to run a harness on these seats

     

    I currently have miata seats in mine

     

    Does anyone have any knowledge of using R32/R33/R34 seats in a 280z?

    I really hope I am able to put R34 seats in my car

  6. 5K isn't enough to do an RB swap properly(I believe 10k is when you're good). As the basic words of wisdom go, if you can't do it right the first time, it'll cost you more in the long run.

     

    5k into an L28ET swap would be amazing.

    I've put around $1500 into my L28ET swap (just the engine part/exhaust/ecu/supporting mods)

     

    You also need to keep in mind, the RB was never made in the states. If anything breaks, you'll need to pay a premium on shipping to get parts over here. If you stick with the L28ET you can get parts everywhere.

    Ok, now if I were to go with the L28ET swap, and can't find an L28ET at the local junkyards what would be a good place to buy them?

  7. Why not go for the L28ET from a 280zx turbo?

    You can pickup the motor from a junkyard for around $500 usually. My junkyard let me compression test mine before I bought it, and it's being running strong.

     

    What are your power goals? You can get 250rwhp/300tq reliably for around $1000 or less once you have the engine. For $1500 invested you could have a 13 second car which is plenty fast for a daily.

    I can't find a junkyard near me that has a 81-83 280zx turbo engine. I've searched junkyards using car-part.com and the turbo engines are pretty far away from me. 

  8. I've currently got 2.5k saved up, and I'm looking to swap my 280z's engine. 

     

    I've checked

    jdmtigerjapanese then researched the company only to realize that they sell engines in poor condition

    Ebay then declined to buy an engine off of ebay

     

     

    I'm only a high school senior and I'm looking for either an RB25DET or a SR20DET. 

     

    I just want to buy my engine at the same location others have had success with. 

  9. I am gathering knowledge for when I finally want to do a RB swap to my 280z.

     

    If I were to use an RB26 engine I would have to use an RB25 transmission, then is that it ? Will the shifter be in the same spot as a normal L28 with 4 speed?

     

     

    But I read somewhere that the RB30 Block is significantly stronger than the RB26 block, so if I mated an RB26 head to an RB30 block, would the RB25 tranny be ok?

     

    Or will an RB30 Block and tranny be ok for the 280z? 

  10. I have a stock drivetrain.

     

     

    For transmission I'm thinking a OS-Giken Super Single Clutch.

     

    Is there a difference between the NS081-AB8 and the NS081-AA8?

     

     

    For the engine, I want to bore the engine out to 3.0 or 3.1 L. But I don't know if the N42 block will be able to withstand the HP. 

     

    Me questions is- Are the upgrades I want to do, to my N42 Block/Head which is only at 90K miles, going to be ok?
