  1. to boost CR to achieve better low-mid torque on a budget, would it be preferred to swap a MN47 head on a pretty much stock L28E or shave the existing ZN47 head? the stock dished pistons would stay, budget. how much shaving could occur before cam tower shimming becomes a concern? would shaving of .050 reduce combustion chamber volume to 40cc? is there a rule of thumb? given torque is the objective, would replacing the MN47 stock 42mm intake valves with the N47's 44mm valves be a good place to spend money? thoughts & opinions are appreciated
  2. have read that the stock ECU of say a 78 L28E w/ N47 may not perform accurately if the induction system were modified w/ CAI, 60mm TB, intake ported to match...am thinking of going forward w/ this modification but wanted to get some opinions (in the future, mild porting of the head may make sense also)...overall, the goal would be to achieve better low-mid range (2000-5000rpm) torque. (which maybe these mods takes me in the opposite direction) appreciate your thoughts & time
  3. is going w/ a 60mm TB upgrade on a pretty much stock (except for CAI & 2.5" exhaust) 78 L28E w/ stock N47 intake worthwhile if no match or mouth porting has been done? what if intake has mouth porting to match & mild runner porting? or is a 60mm TB upgrade an item that produces questionable bang for the buck? goal is to get better low-mid range (2000-4500rpm) torque...thoughts are appreciated
  4. Hi, interested in purchasing a useable MN47 head at a fair price & I saw this thread & figured that someone may be able to help...appreciate your time...my email address is david.drake@sympatico.ca...thx
  5. looking for more low-mid range torque (so she pulls better from 1500rpm - 4500rpm) from my basically stock L28 which has an N47 head...freer flowing exhaust thru header & 2 1/2 piping is on the menu...what type of cam should I look at? pls indicate optimal lift, duration, etc. appreciate your thoughts
  6. how much can I shave my stock N47 head before I get into problems w/ valve/piston clearance & timing chain slop? I would like to gain as much compression as possible...is there a rule of thumb, ie. 40 thou is good for 0.5 compression? thx
  7. can a square exhaust ported N42 header be used on a round exhaust ported N47 head or is that inviting trouble w/ a potential exhaust leak? I need a header to fit my N47, pls help
  8. can the sleeves inserted into the N47's exhaust ports be removed? if so, is it a fairly easy job or a real time consuming pain? if the sleeves were removed from the N47, would I now have rectangular shaped exhaust ports & essentially an N42 head? is the only other difference between N47/N42 the EGR opening? if more low-mid range torque from my pretty much stock 78 L28 is the gameplan, would ditching the N47 & buying an N42 head be the thing to do? or should I work w/ the N47 which I already have? proposed modifications would be a header, a mild cam & possibly shaving the head comments are appreciated
