Finally she is running and driving and not getting hot. The th400 shifts solid and the motor sings with the minimal bolt-ons. i was really suprised how much power was gained just from the carb.

  2. alrighty. scat emailed me this morning. said it would be between 2-3k and 16weeks out. and half the money up front. im thinking about asking them if they would go lower if we could do a group buy thing. so anyone who has a stock 350 and wants to build a 302 with a flat crank raise your hand. im gonna start saving regardless.

-Flimjay i can get you the site where i read all about the 302's. but alot was in here http://books.google.com/books?id=g469j-_47ioC&dq=how+to+hotrod+small+block&printsec=frontcover&source=bl&ots=dmfUpkH2mt&sig=x5KHZ2dfzThZpgzzwXvBuhmdH7c&hl=en&ei=QQ_VSa_AEYLUyQW6673tDg&sa=X&oi=book_result&ct=result&resnum=5

they talk a little about it.

actually myt step dad had a book i read about it in by david vizard. mentioned earier in this forum. the guy is a genus.

  3. I recently ran into something i found quite interesting. The chevy 302. Thats right the CHEVY 302. they were made 68-69 for a select few of z28 camaros. they have a 4.00 bore and 3.00 stroke. and the rod mains and main diameters are all the same as a 350. so for those of us that don't have access to an LS motor this may be a good way to go. from the factory these 302s were some screamers with their 3 in stroke. you can get replacement cranks through eagle. and since the block is the same as a 350 you can use the plethora of aftermarket parts to build it up. from the factory they ran around 7000 to 7500. so if you can get and flat 3in stroke crank for an sbc that would be a good start. now if you wanna run some higher rpms, you can use honda rods. a lot of my buddies from dirt track racing run honda rods in their sbc. the reason: they are lighter and stronger than any aftermarket sbc rods. they run 9500 on my buddies late model. and its not a one race motor they have run it for 2 years balls to the wall. so as long as it was just a weekend warrior car it would pry last a while. suz most ppl won't be driving in circles running 7k plus from 20 min at a time. im gonna talk to scat about a custom 3in flat crank for a 350. i'll let you guys know what they say.

  4. Vega sorry my first account i forgot the password to. so you can pm me on this one. it may take me a few days to get them i have been at the hospital the passed week the wife has gall stones. but shoot me your mail and question and i'll answer them as best at i can.

now, here is the deal. i just swapped to a th400 cuz i was using the auto nissan tranny. if it was a manual it pry would have been ok. but i have no use for my adapter plate or flexplate anylonger. so... if you want the the adapter plate you can have it for a price, that will save you hours and hours of measuring checking and re-checking measurements. i did have a machine shop make me a slug that fit into the back of the crank to the torque converter. i also had them mate my z32 flexplate and my sbc flexplate togeather. you need the nissan ring gear and the sbc bolt pattern as well as a small spacer behind the flywheel so it will line up perfect with the starter. the speedo will work fine on its own cuz you haven't changed anything with the tranny electronically. the tach will need to be tuned. if you need intruction on this email me.

now my adapter plate should work if you are going to use a manual tranny as long as you use the 300zx bellhousing. you will need a custom flywheel. i would talk with advanced adapters or http://www.novak-adapt.com they do lots of stuff with trannys. and could pry get you started.

  5. hi i have an on going project. and i have a z32 with an sbc in it and a th400. any one had any luck tuning or getting an accurate signal to electric gauges? i know they make modules to convert cable drive signal to electronic signal. has anyone had any luck with these? The z32 gauges have a trim pot adjustment on them so that may help a little. Im open to any idea's.

  6. ok this is what i got

    newmotor.jpg

thats the newly painted motor, and working on rerouting plumbing and what not. i really need to just take the time and remove the motor and gut all the wiring i dont need from the bay.

    radclearance.jpg

the new rad and the fans and clearance.

    th400.jpg

the th400 and modified nissan mounts.

    driveshaft.jpg

The driveshafts mated and like i said you can see that the gm shaft drove inside rather nicely. then drilled and spot welded some stops to hold it instead welding all the way around so it wouldn't distort so much.

  7. I finally put the time in to read through this entirely. There is so much information here i had to read it then read it again and then doodle some stuff cuz im a visual learner, but also discovered from some of the videos paul posted that i can learn through hearing, my wife disagrees. :) well all this has got me excited, and now i want a flat crank sbc in z32. got an sbc in in it already and th400. but it does need that exotic sound to complete it. but i have a question. so does a flat crank fire one cylinder on each side at the same time? is that how it achieves its 4cyl like rips? b/c the exhaust is expelled evenly. am i understanding this right? someone please straiten me out if im wrong.

  8. Update. the nissan tranny died on me. so i am in the process of putting in a th400. actually its in im reworking my exhaust and i bought some headers i need to chop up a little to fit, but it'll be better once im don't i don have the internet at the moment, but i'll get pics up as soon as possible. i also got a new custom radiator in, it really helps alot. anyone had any luck with tuning speedo gauges or have any idea what i need to get them to work with the th400 tranny? BTW if you do this swap, the stock tt auto drive shaft will fit tightly over the stock th400 driveshaft. so you can drill some holes in the z's and spot weld them together. i'll get some pics up soon.
