  1. My windshield area has a lot of rust in the channel I need to cut out. I noticed some of the muscle car guys are going with flush mount windshields. So far I haven't seen it on any datsun. Do you guys know of one? I am curious to see what it looks like. Sometimes they can look a little odd, sometimes they look great. And yes, I have shrinker/stretchers to make a new channel 😄

This is what I'm talking about btw.

  2. Thanks for the pics! I have an early 260. The 260's are similar to the 240s but I believe use their own mounting system as they had shocks and stick out further. My bumpers are pretty bad so I am looking at some repro 240z ones. I have several holes on the sides where the bumper sits but I am not sure if they line up or not. I am welding up uneeded holes all over the car (including the ones from an old vinyl top😄) and wanted to know if I needed to save one or all of them.

  3. Thanks for the info! I am using the in tank unit mainly just to keep the noise down from the pump. Since it will be split open, i was just going to add some baffles because why not. All the plans I've seen look like a one way marble trap. I'll take a look at the FiTech. Can that be mounted sideways? That would be helpful but I've never seen a surge tank be side mount capable.

  4. I picked up a spare tank for my 260 that I need to cut open to strip out a misapplied POR15 liner. I'm thinking about remaking the bottom of it instead of stripping it since its essentially a box with some dents for the straps. Does anyone have any recommendations on the baffling? I am planning on putting a Tanks Inc or Phantom in tank EFI pump on the low side under the spare tire well. A surge tank will be under the car somewhere. I'm not looking to go with a fuel cell.

A quick search of the web found me this. I am imagining the small box would be located in the position I described above.

Would this be enough? And do the baffles really need to extend to the top of the tank (minus a tiny gap)?

  5. It randomly suggested the build I am right in the middle of. It's a sign! 😂

"The "absolute best" way to modify a 1974 Datsun 260Z is subjective and depends on your specific goals and preferences for the car. However, here is an example of a modification setup that many enthusiasts have found to be highly effective:

The RB25DET engine is a popular choice for enthusiasts who want to increase the power and performance of their Datsun 260Z. It's a 2.5-liter inline-six engine that was originally found in the Nissan Skyline R33. It has a cast iron block, an aluminum head, and a turbocharger, which allows it to produce significantly more power than the original L26 engine found in the 260Z.

Some benefits of the RB25DET engine swap for a 260Z include increased horsepower and torque, improved reliability, and a wider range of aftermarket support for tuning and upgrades. However, engine swaps can be complex and costly, and it's important to ensure that the swap is done properly to avoid any issues with the car's performance and reliability."

  6. Yes it’s pretty strange. Even the blast shop had no idea what they were done for. It’s all primered inside now, but there were no crinkles or cuts in the inner structure of the roof. The holes that are plugged are filled with the “white worm” of bondo. I’m starting to think one of the previous owners was going to put a landau top on 😄

  7. After i media blasted the my car, I found a series of holes all around the perimeter of the roof. There wasn't a metal seam or weld (inside or outside) that would indicate the roof was replaced. Does anyone know what this is or why it's there? Was my roof caved in at some point?

  8. I'm ok with a tiny amount of warp- heck my panels are a bit warped already i can tell with that popping flex in the roof. Depending on how many holes are revealed in my hood/hatch I may try a remanufactured panel instead of fixing it.  I'll let you guys know how it turns out.

Dipping a car is a great option if you can get the car there yourself (though I have read some horror stories of seepage from areas that have seam sealer that bubble paint for years). It would just end up costing me too much lost income/time for it to make sense for me. For blasting, it sounds a lot like it depends on where you go. I usually check and see if they did Datsuns before since our cars are so flimsy in terms of bodywork.

In my research for a place, I found it funny that our Datsuns would randomly show up in pics mixed in with a TON of porsches. Thanks BringATrailer! 😂

  9. Baking soda. Most of the warpage comes from sand heating up the metal from friction. These guys have done datsuns in the past. The ones to watch out for are the dustless blaster guys, I've seen a lot of videos of media being caked up inside frame rails and panels. To be fair, thats not really the purpose of that kind of blasting.

I'm in LA as well and have been thinking for quite a while about taking my car to Metalworks in Eugene. If I get it dipped I'd really like to get it e-coated, though. There used to be a place in Seattle that did it, but they closed down during the pandemic.

That was the place I called. It's reasonable for the dip: around 1800-2200. Its the transport that was insane. I just sent it to Calblast in san bernadino, I figured they will get most of the rust and I didn't need to scrape the undercoating off before I sent it.
