My car has been parked for a year (tranny went to hell). Itll start, but not very well. It wont idle and it wont go past 3 grand. It does smoke a little, but it didnt when i parked it. I have replaced the computer, injectors, the hose from the airfilter to the manifold, damn near all the vacum hoses and spark plugs. What gives? It ran fine when i parked it, so it has to be something simple. Help me out please!!!

I too have 77 280. definetly want to do the ford swap, but i also want to know what i will get for 500 bucks. lot of money for a guy making 8.50 doing spray in liners at a ford dealership with a family to support. right now im just trying to find a computer so i can drive my car. Im in for the kit, but may need to be able to do payments. plan on using a manaul tranny too. another benefit for the solid axle swap would be a more diverse selection of a wheel and tire combo. would like to see a z with cragar ss on it.

Im in!!! how about finding a way to stuff a turbo with the sbf.

it was a little past six thirty in the morning when i came sliding around a dirt corner heading for work. The day was beautifull and i was in a very good mood. When the clock churned seven (starting time), my best friend (and best man) told me some news that made my day just horrible. It seems my supervisor was out to get me and he had my number. I was let go from my job because apparently in his eyes I couldn't stand the extreme heat. Come lunch time i said give me my check, so that i may start looking for another job. Off i went grabbing some apps when an out-of-stater(Wyoming plates) in a green GM SUV decides to run me off the road (did i mention that i was in my z ). So, there i was stuck in the middle of traffic with a shredded front tire(median/ cement island), slightly bent rim and hubcap and the c*cksuckin SOB didnt even bother to stop. Everybody else stopped, but he/she didnt. Now, that is a BAD DAY! Oh yea, im gettin married in a week and rent is due next week.

i agree with Ed on using a cream color.it is a nice neutral color. keep looking at other color schemes to get an idea of what you want

ive been reading some threads on ricers and fart can exhaust systems, and i must say i cant stand the sound of them things either. well, now my z sounds like one except louder and drives me f#@king nuts. has anybody ever used a turbo tube muffler? how do they sound? i saw these mufflers in some mag and thought it would be nice muffler to have since they would tuck up under the car nicely(old muffler was broke off). these tubes kinda remind me of the old chambered exhaust/ glass packs. i would like to have a respectfull sound coming out of the car, not a methane gas passing through a tin can sound. any suggestions?

Alternator size--purely a hypothetical question
snork replied to jhaag's topic in Trouble Shooting / General Engine
im not good with electricity either, but i can answer one of your questions. they run such a big alternator for some of their much needed excessories ( off road lights, winch if they have one, communications, ect.).im guessing mostly lights is the reason for the big alternator. -
Volt reading.... with ignition off
snork replied to MAYHEM's topic in Trouble Shooting / General Engine
iv also noticed the same thing on my 77 z, among other problems (electrical). would a chiltons manual give a diagram on how the dash comes out (bolts, wires, tach, ect.)? little scared of ripping apart the dash without knowing what all i will have to deal with. -
well, found a ground that wasnt hooked up. its the one attached to where the coil mounts. dont know if its the main problem, only time will tell

I did a search but I couldn't find how to add metallic chips
snork replied to a topic in Body Kits & Paint
Racer x, never done it single stage except with fine and medium metalic. bc/cc would be heck of alot easier. never could do a drop coat on single stage very well. -

newbee, ive been able to experiment with this stuff at school. we just added the metalic chip to a clear base coat(not clear coat). after we sprayed the base color, we would just "dust" this stuff on with our sata n2000. we dusted it on so it wouldnt show our stroke(just make sure that the base stays wet enough for the metalic flake to lay flat). then hit it with clear coat. sound right anybody? -
Boobala, if you decide to use the metal to metal type of filler, be ready to do a rough out with a grinder. stuff sucks to sand, but it is water proof.

hasnt popped out of gear yet

by the way, it is a 77 model year.

RacerX or anyone with experience with PPG products: K36 ?
snork replied to a topic in Body Kits & Paint
k-36 is meant to go over body filler. this is a great product, has good mil thickness build and sands pretty nice. to get straight as possible, apply OVER body fill, and dry sand till you see spots of body fill showing through the surfacer. apply a few more coats and sand till smooth( final sand with 500 wet IMO). k-36 can also be a sealer if reducer is added. great stuff!! -
anybody know or have a 5 speed tranny for sale, or maybe a price range i gonna be looking at? every now an d then when i put my z in reverse, it would lock up/ clunk when i let the clutch out. today it locked up big time and wouldnt let me get into first gear until i managed to get the car moving in reverse. when it locked up, it was like it was stuck between first and reverse. bent fork maybe? there has been a few times i havent been nice to it when taking off, speed shifting, ect.

has anyone used the eletric buffer/polisher from snap-on. ive been looking at one, but it only goes to 1900 rpm. i know with todays paints, a person wouldnt want to go above 2000 rpm in risk of burning through. does the electric have the same amount of power as the air powered one?

Hey SPIITIIT yea, its alittle messy, like tar messy. as far as spray guns go, i ran a SATA 2000 gun with a 1.4 tip for top coats and a COBALT with a 1.8 tip for under coats. a friend uses the delvbiss gun. this gun had a sweet set up that included 3 different tip sizes to choose from, also sprayed pretty nice.
-
SPIRIIT I believe i had the gauge set around 65-75 pounds at the tank. i was using an undercoating gun(cheapie) and didnt have a gauge at the gun, so i had to guess. pluss i was using a 50 foot hose. i also had the ford emblem cut out on gerber paper. after i shot the lining on, i put the gerber paper down and sprayed the emblem with that colored bed liner in a can stuff. came out pretty good. ended up doing flames on my tool box with the left over colored stuff(red, white and blue). have pics somewhere

i hope you are planning on spending more than 130 dollars. Body and paint tools (da, gun, mud hog, air board, ect.) take quite a bit of air to run. Count on getting a 2 stage compressor. I used my father-inlaw's 5hp/ 30 gallon tank compressor to do my truck bed(rhino lined). My da would kick the compressor on every 3.5 minutes. I ended up doing alot of hand sanding so i wouldn't burn up the compressor. So far the cheapest compressor i found to suit my needs was 750 bucks. dont forget to get a good drier for the compressor and air tool oil.

plan on making the whole ass end of the Z one big tire

Found JTR web page, but zhome.net page didnt come up. whats the biggest difference between the two animals? plus, if i do a small block swap(god save me from my wife), i was thinking side pipes would be the way to go.
