  1. Thanks for the reply. I have been away on vacation and i havent measured it yet. Its only about 3 inches to short. How long is the driveshaft you have? i don't have much money but how much do you want for it?
  2. I'm not in your area but am doing the same swap. just an idea......go with megasquirt. when i bought my motor it didn't come with the wiring harness and computer. I couldnt find it anywhere for a reasonable price. the reality was its much cheaper to use megasquirt and easier to wire in. Also the stock efi and fuel is very limited. you can only run around 10 pounds before you need to upgrade it. If you use megasquirt, it opens many door for mods you want to do in the future. hope this helps a little.
  3. Okay grumpy, here is my situation. I just swapped a BW T5 into my 1975 280Z 2+2. I got the trans and driveshaft out of a 1983 2+2 turbo. My problem is that the driveshaft is to short. After all i have read I was prepared for the driveshaft to be to long but this is not the case. Is it because i have the 2+2 model and it is a little longer? Besides having the driveshaft lenghtened. What are my options? Thanks for all your help.
  4. Okay guys here is my situation.
  5. is that easier to use over the stock wiring?
  6. Okay guys, I'm trying to swap a L28et engine into my 75 280Z. I can't find the engine harness and ecu anywhere. Can I just use the stock wiring but use a turbo ecu? Electrical work is my downfall. I have done everything mechanical to the car but am loosing my mind when it comes to wiring it. I know this is a popular swap but there isn't much info about how to wire it in. I think this may be a good thread if i can get people to write some tips for everybody about what they can and can't do. Thanks guys for all the info.......
  7. Thanks for the info. I plan on buying everything to rebuild the head. ( valves, guides, seats, spring set, rocker arm guides, etc..) it really sucks you can't find new lifters. I should just change them with mech. well my plan is to rebuild the head. as for the block i was going to change the piston rings, main and rod bearings, and a good head gasket. Then install a new timing set, water pump, and oil pump. I think with these thing done a should have a good reliable motor. I really only want around 250 horses. what do you guys have done to yours. oh, how hard is the wiring for swapping the l28et into a 1975 280z. can i just use the stock wiring but change the computer? What about megasquirt? Is that hard to use? I can do almost anything mechanical but wiring is my downfall. thanks again for all the info....
  8. I bought my motor from a wrecking yard. Who knows how many mile are on it. The compression is perfect but i really don't know how good the lifters are. I read a post a while back and a guy popped the little cap off his lifter and cleaned them. I guess he never had any problem afterward. I'm just a little scared to to di because it seems like you cant get them anymore. is this true? I cant find them...
  9. So if I get a good IC and boost controller I should be fine right. What about the stock wiring and injectors? I know i need to change the fuel pump to the turbo one. anything else i should get?
  10. Is it complete and in good shape?
  11. Check out blackdragonauto.com some of there prices are high some are really good. let me know what you think.
  12. Im not going to change the intake at all just clean it up a bit. I am having a real hard time justifing the forged pistons. they are expensive. The engine is already out of the car so it's the perfect time to do the mods and i only want to do it once. I will be really pissed off if i get the engine all installed and for some reason i kill the pistons and have to rebuild because i didn't change them in the first place. I have priced it out and i can completly rebuild the block with forged pistons and rebuild the head with all new parts for around $1200. (just parts) its a good deal but times are hard. who has the magic answer?? lol
  13. I need a complete wiring harness and ECU for a 1983 maual L28ET.
  14. I have a P90a head and want to change over to solid lifters. can I install the lifters out of a 1975 280z L28e?
  15. Hey folks. My name is Brad, i am 30 and live in dixon ca. I have been working on a 1975 280z 2+2 for about a year now. I have completly rebuild all the suspension, steering, and brakes. Installed new poly bushings. Well i have been doing tons of research about what motor swap is the best to do. Yesterday I just bought a L28ET from a wrecking yard for 300 bucks (complete). IT is out of a 83 so it has the HYD lifters. ( not sure what do about these yet) Well I have some questions.( i know they have been asked before, but i am asking again anyways). My goal is to have a reliable turbo engine with around 250-300 horses with all the bells and whistles( IC, Boost controller, etc,..) 1. How good is the stock internals? What s the REAL answer? I have heard to many things. I am thinking of getting forged pistons but they are expensive and i am not trying to build the fastest car out there. i want it fast and reliable. 2. What do I do about the HYD lifters? are they really that bad? They lock and act like a solid lifter anyway right? besides all the rockie questions, I just want to say that I have read tons of great info. I have loved these cars since i was a kid and finally have one to play with. I look forward to all the great advice. Hey I met a bunch of folks from a Z club at The Nut Tree in vacaville ca about 6 months ago. I have been wanting to get ahold of them. Does anybody have any info?
