did anyone else get a headache trying to follow these two???
let me guess your both shadetree mechanics... with MIT engineering degrees?? =)

And they will break a stud. On #6. It's a given.
Oooh' date=' Columbia SC, I could pick me up some Maurice's BBQ at Piggy Park....[/quote']
#6... We have a winnahhhh...
i hate that stud.

It's not good for racing? Hmmm' date=' I guess I'll have to change mine out then eh?
LOL!
As for not being very strong I would tend to disagree. I have been running a stock auto with 225,000 KM on it for the last few years as a street / drag car. Lasted quite a while dead stock until I screwed up and started doing my burnouts in 2nd gear instead of first. This lead to the 2nd gear band starting to slip so I pulled it apart and replaced the band with a new (but stock) one. Still going strong now with 100's more passes at the track in the 11's.
But as everyone has said it's not rare or desireable - I would change to a stick for anything but a drag car with a slow spooling turbo like mine.[/quote']
i kinda have to agree..... mine has 165k on it and has made 3 trips from Oklahoma to Oregon. Until i let a friend drive and found out he was doing burn outs and fried it, it worked great. The only problem ive ever had with it is its a 3 speed. great for city but 40 minute commutes at 70/75mph can get old with out an overdrive. someone told me how to use the early maxima 4speed auto but i really didnt understand how the conversion was suppose to work since they dont really have a bell housing to swap... =/
But until my friend had his fun it was a strong running tranny and never had a problem with it.
oh yeah.. its the red 79 in my gallery.

unfortunately.. he's right.. =( most people at shops give a quote straight from a time estimate book on the car.. and while this is usually an hour maybe 2 job.. on a older z with someone unfamiliar with it.. its a pain.
when i first bought my z, it had a horrible exhaust leak so i took it to midas.
not only did they break a stud, but lost one of my heat shields (there are 2 not 1 as i found out) on the underside of the intake. This is one of the fewr eally big gripes i have with the disign of the car is the intake and exhaust sharing studs and bolts. i did it the next time on my own and now that ive done it once Katman is right.. only takes about an hour.
and the reason i did it again.. blown gasket on my Monza header ..
if its free and you dont mind the extra heat/noise and can fab up the rest of the exhasut.. sure why not.. but you might consider waiting until you can get a better built header. Or make sure the exhaust from the header back is the proper size that will fit up with the minumum effort to the next header you buy. =)

I think im going to have to sign on the bandwagon here, definately keep it clean!! Flashy bling cars grab your attention then lose it just as quick... there is something about a really clean, well put together car that just speak volumes about the owner/builder...
One of my favorites Z's ive ever seen was sitting in a parking lot at a car show lol its was silver with black bolt on fender flares.. thats it. no spoiler, side skirts or even an airdam! the badging was gone, sidemarkers flushed window trim was blackout out and windows were very lightly tinted. It wasnt a monster road racer, street race car or dark and mean looking... instead it was like looking at silk in car form. Just smooth and tasteful.
Just one of those moments when you see a car and say "yep" thats what i want. =)
I think i took more pics of that car in the parking lot than i did at the whole car show!
i really like the idea of a modern power plant in the z with efi and turbo.. that shows your up with todays tech.. and something like triple's in the roadster shows your enthusiasm, and respect for the old school ways that started all this in the first place =)

looks great.... definately a stand out.. great job.
and yea more pictures please =0)

thank god im not the only one.. LOL i have the orange 3350 with awd and body kit , but i modified the motor with the lithium battery upgrades and better chip contoller to keep it cool... lol damn thing will hit 40mph in about 3 secs LOL
and yeah... so hooked... =)

looks like a hybrid boxer engine to me..
-
wow... i think that was the better route ive seen so far...
looks amazingly like stock
-
i have a 79 zx with the auto in it and the only rare thing ive found about them is finding a rebuild kit or someone who will rebuild it with out charging you a few grand... if its a daily driver and your in the city... no biggie.. want to modify it.. go manual.
that being said, want to sell the auto tranny?? =0)
i need a second one to try my hand at rebuilding one.

yep good selling point to me was "person of limited talent can paint with it ". LOL only place ive found it for sell around here was OKC and i picked up some of the semi metalic blue for a gas tank on my friends Harley... he painted it and i did the fenders .. if you use this stuff.... do EXACTely what it says on the website about the base coats or it will ... bleed through horribly.
only problem is they dont have a waterbased clear coat yet so you have to use a normal one which kinda defeats the ozone friendly aspect of garage painting. but damn does it dry nice.

i was going to say it looked like a 944...even had the mesh wheels... i liked teh back but the front... not so much.
as for aftermarket headlights.. i would save my money and go for round HIDs instead of trying to modify/fabricate something else but thats just me =)
-
ok now i want pictures of the jacket... not the car but the jacket......
why does that sound so wrong????
-
the more more look at your car the more i like the red black contrast... i think you should definatly keep that theme... its different.
luv the log btw..

Hey Bill ..i have a cracked dash control plate if you want it for a template...i replaced mine about 3 years ago and still have the other one... cracked around the screw holes ofcourse.
Zone could you post another couple of pics closer up on that control cover.. if you get the chance pls. i really like the look of that.
-
i bought a set of those for my z but they were the 14x6.5 for 200 about 5 years ago...excellent condition except for one had curb rash on the lip...they are on the car now, in the pic to the left actually =0) ... dont know if that helps for price but gives an idea.
-
i love the cover plate where the vent controls were.. curved to fit and looks great but am curious what you did with the controls?? no air or defrost on your car or what?

oh and Veritech is right ....NO WAY those Scion wheels are -3. they have to be more like +3ish like most front wheel drive toyotas are... which is what it is. and it would be spendy to redip nd repair them anyways.
