  1. Hi guys,

    I've been working on my s30 for a while now. at this point im looking for a big help on wiring.

     

    I have an l28et engine with harness. Engine was completely rebuilt and has a 3.0 stroker set up. I have decided to go with JW set up and have collected all the necessary parts that required by JW.

     

    Now, im in the processing of wiring between the engine and the z31 ecu. I did a research and have no luck of finding a good schematic for this set up. I have found an ecu diagram for a 240sx but not for the z31 n/a auto trans.

    If any one have done this set up, please help by sharing your knowledge would be greatly appreciated.

    I have a 1989 n/a auto trans ecu, s130 wiring harness, ford Maf sensor, electric ignition, 550 fuel injectors.

  2. Hi everyone,

    Im a little confused with the wiring pinout and looking for help. I have a 1987 auto ECU that need to wiring with zx harness. I have read a lot of thread of how to wiring it but didnt see for a 1987 model. Here is my questions:

    1. Are they all z31 ecu the same pin out? If not, where can i get a diagram for a 1987?

    2. According to this thread, what does it mean by the word "shielded"? http://www.xenonz31.com/computerpinout.html

    3. Do i need to hook up a TACH from ignitor to the ECU for fuel management (manage fuel injectors)?

    Im in the middle of setting up E12-80 dizzy with MSD 6A. After gone through this post, im confuse with deciding which dizzy to use. I have both dizzy, turbo and e12-80.

    I will be using z31 ECU with 280zx wiring harness. Im going with JimWolf setup.

     

    Can you guys give me a good idea of using the 280z turbo dizzy?

    I have already installed the e12-80 to the MSD but still not sure if i would need to make any connections to the ECU? Please help to walk me through this since i have never done this. Thanks and appreciated!

  4. Hi everyone,

    I'm looking for help on how to install the MSD 6 into a turbo distr or E12-80 distr. i basically follow the msd manual wiring all the neccesary wires. I have both of distr set up, either one work should be fine for me. I know the E12-80 distr is a point distr.

    i currently have the 240z wiring harness out of the car for troubleshooting for short issues.

    My set up;

    -l28et

    -z31 ECU

    -low impetance injectors

    -280zx stock harness

    -MSD 6 ignition module

    -MSD blaster 2

    -E12-80 distr

     

    Here are my main questions:

    1- if i use the E12-80, i know the C terminal is going to the MSD input (white). Do i also need to loop this to the ECU too? If so, what pin should i connect it to?

    2- if i use the turbo distr, which terminal is the output signal to the MSD? And how to wire them correctly?

    3- is the turbo distr also a Point trigger?

    4- who is tell the ECU to open the injectors?

    Can someone please give me some instructions of how to add in free-play length for order a custom half shaft? For example: if my measurement from end to end is 14" driver side and 11" passenger side, how much should add in for free-play? I'm in the process of r230 conversion. The machine shop wants $400 to shorten and respline the two r230 half shafts.

    It's been a while i haven't have time to post new topics. Was busy working on my s30 project.

     

    Im looking for some help to determind how much of space for free-play if i want to shortten the cv shaft? My measurments are 12.7/8" from adapter flange to the halfshaft. What is the final length should it be? Thanks for any inputs.

  7. 1. Stock turbo pump is ok for 290cc stock injectors. I used a Bosch pump with my 370cc injectors, but I modified my MAF with a 30% larger ID.

    2. Yes.

    3. Yes, fuel pump, distributor, ignition and some sensors may need connector/wiring modifications.

    Thanks for the answers SleeperZ. I've just got my S30 suspensions done. Now moving to engine wiring. Hope can get some helps later if i got stuck.

  8. Hi everyone,

    It's a long story since the day I've started to jump into this route. I first was trying to do engine swap to my 280zx but then get some advised to go with 240z. That have me changed to go with 240z and working with it.

    I am now at the last stage of doing engine swap on to my s30. I have a 1985 z31 turbo ECU and wiring harness that came with the L28ET when i bought. I've pretty much done all the other stuff and now looking for a serious help of setting up the ECU. I have a few questions that not sure what to do since i've got confused with many different answers on the internet research.

     

    Here is my problems:

    1. What is the minimum fuel delivery should i use for my set up?

    2. Do i need to remapping the ECU to run a 550cc fuel injector?

    3. If i run stock z31 ECU, do i need to do any modification on wiring?

     

    Here is my set up:

    -89mm pistons

    -Stock fuel injectors

    -Borg warner T5 tranny

    -T3/T4 ball bearing turbo

    -Stock exhaust manifold

    -50mm wastegate

    -3" exhaust system

     

    I know there's some threads have already posted some where but please post it here is greatly appreciated since I don't want to get more confuse of reading else where.

     

    Please any comments would be useful and thankful for walking me through these problems.

    After i have collected all necessary parts to stroke my engine. Now, i'm ready to hire someone to reassembly the engine back together. I've took the engine apart piece by piece and have the block bored. Pistons and piston rods, and the head are assembled. As i am now so busy don't have time to continue with the works. I would need some one to finish all the rest to make the engine run. All the parts are ready to assemble. I live in Garden Grove, CA.

  11. This is my first project. The problem is my english is not that good and kinda hard for me to understand the things people named it. For example: we used to call those main bearing as a washer or a ring for crankshaft in my country. That's how it means in our language for amateurs. If i have the repair manual i shouldn't posted for help. But i really appreciated for all of your work trying to help me. Here is what i've just done today:

    -I've torqued the crankshaft and trying to turn by hand to check. It's turn it tighten about 15% of round. I'm not sure if that's the way it could be? I've had the crankshaft balanced at machine shop 2 months ago.

    -Next i'm looking for a tool to take the thing that holds the rod & piston to put them on my new piston set. Can anyone post me some links to check how to do that part?

  12. I'm looking to upgrade my 280zx wheels. I think i will go with a max size that best fits for the rear wheels. I love to have it looks fatter but don't know how to figure the size. If any one can help with sizing that would greatly appreciated. If you have a set that want to sell. Please send me your pics. Thanks!

    I'm thinking of swap my L28e tranny out of 83 280zx with z31 once.

    After i've done researching on net. There was no thread about swapping on 280zx. The big thing to concern about is the drive shaft. People were talking about 77z but no dimension about drive shaft for 83z. If you know where can i find the exact size for drive shaft for 280zx. Please help by provide more info of it. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

  15. That looks really nice. The valve cover especially, the two tone black and red looks killer. What did you use to sand the block with?

    I used grinder with twisted wheel brush. Took me 5 hours to make it looks clean. :icon56:
