  1. Back to real basics. Upon further investigation, the problem was not with MS. It was the ignition switch, when in the on position there is switched power but when you go to the start position you loose switched power, common problem on early Z's.
  2. This car is 3.1L with EDIS running MS1. The car was running fine and just quit. I hook it up to the stim and everything works, but when installed in the car I get no LED's working. It is getting the 12V at the ECU and I checked the DB9 pin 9 and there is a 5v VREF there. I Checked all the power and fuses on the relay board and they good. The tach indicates RPM when I crank it so I believe the VR sensor is working. Any ideas?
  3. I have disconnect all the wiring to the SAW coming at the 37 pin connector and it is still floating at 5V at the MS. To test them together will be difficult unless I set up a complete test bed like BRAAP did and I think he was just running the EDIS with out the MS.
  4. Car Stats: 3.1L Mustang SVO 32# injectors Lonewolf Intake Header 60mm TB EDIS Head P&P Stage 2 CAM MSA MS1 V3.0 029y24 We had the car running fine for 10 months and one day the customer comes in with a bad exhaust leak, he had blown out the manifold gasket when he had a big backfire. We replace the gasket and the car ran but with little power. Like it was in limp mode. Checked the msq and it was the same downloaded new firmware, checked all connections, in fact at this point the entire MS installation was taken apart and rewired. Had the MS1 checked out by a third party MS repair shop and they said it was fine. Still runs like crap, get the scope out and check some things and find we are getting no SAW signal. PIP is there a 12v Square wave but no SAW. What I do seem to get is one pulse when we try to start the engine but none after that. I take the unit out of the car and check it on the bench with a stim. On the bench the MS gives an SAW signal but not in the car. At first I thought something may be suppressing the signal so I disconnected it at the relay board and still no SAW. I checked at the 37pin connector and no SAW even though it was getting a PIP. I did notice one thing, there is a difference in the waveform in the car vs on the bench. On the bench the PIP and SAW are not a square wave form like it is depicted on the MS site, they are more of a spiked signal. When the unit is in the car the EDIS PIP is more of a Square wave like on the MS site. On the bench the PIP and SAW wave forms stay at 0 volts and spike to 12v and 5v each. In the car the SAW sits at 5V not 0, so it is not shorted out to ground. We have tried multiple ECU's and EDIS control units and coil packs with no success. So I decided to throw this out there hoping someone would know why the it works on the bench and not in a car that it worked on for ten months and suddenly stopped. What could cause the SAW signal to disappear, why is the waveform different in the car vs the bench. What should the signal look like. I don't have any other EDIS cars in the shop to use as a comparison, so if anyone does and has a scope could they look at their SAW and PIP and tell me what they look like in a running car? Thanks
  5. I thought the same thing, but when we put a vacuum pump on it and drew 12" of Vacuum the Map Sensor on the MS read about 45KPA which indicates it is working. And we put the Vacuum gauge on the car and it was actually only pulling about 3" of Vacuum.
  6. He has a lone wolf intake, very simple, and just three vacuum lines. We have removed and inspected the intake and sprayed carb cleaners all around it to no effect. There are no vacuum leaks.
  7. We have been struggling with Sourpuss for a while now and have not been able to figure out what is going on. First some background: The car was running great, was recently dyno'd at 239RWHP. Then the owner came to us and said he blew out the manifold gasket and had a huge backfire out the intake. He dropped the car off for us to replace the manifold gasket. We replaced the gasket but now the car runs like crap. KPA is at 97, has no power the AFR is all over the place and the header will start to glow red at idle, even though the MS and the standalone LS1 read AFR in the 12-13 range. The engine was not generating any vacuum, I was able to get some vacuum by adjusting the timing but still not up to spec. Our vacuum gauge reads about 8" of vacuum at idle, before I adjusted the timing it was at 3". This is all on the same map that the car dyno'd on. Engine Specs: 3.1L, with MSA Stage II Cam Kit, Ported Polished head, Lone wolf intake, 60mm TB, 6-1 Header, MS1 V3 running MSNE with EDIS, using a coil pack and controller from a 94 Ford Contour, Mustang SVO 35# injectors, 100GPH fuel pump and Aeromotive AFPR. This is what has been replaced or checked: Replace or checked all vacuum lines, there are only three on the engine, Brake Master, ECU and FPR lines. Replace EDIS Coil pack and control unit. Had MS1 checked out by Symtech and they report the unit is working properly. We have changed the injectors, FPR, and fuel pump. I have bumped up the timing and gave it more fuel got it to run a little better but still no power. We also have tested the map sensor with our vacuum gauge. The compression is 210 across the board, and we did a leak down test which also came out OK. We have checked the cam timing many times. I am including a recent datalog, an old datalog when the car was running correctly and the current MSQ. Links to datafile and msq MSQ Current Datalog at Idle Old DL when car was running good Thanks in advance for any help. Art Rinner Sunrise Z
  8. Primarily need the left (drivers) side axle. Seems I can only find right side axles. Art Rinner art@sunrisez.net
  9. Getting ready to fire up a 3.1L with EDIS. This is the engine setup: 3.1L Stroker 2mm head gasket Lone Wolf Intake 380CC injectors 60mm TB EDIS MS1 with MnSe. Anything close would be a help. Thanks Art
  10. You have to get up early to have fun. There is a group of us (Z's and other cars) that meet up every Sunday morning to go to breakfast at Newcombes Ranch up Angeles Crest Hiway. We meet up at the New Sports Chalet store at Angeles Crest and the 210. Art Rinner 75 280Z 73 240ZT 83 280ZXT
  11. I looked at those and they helped but only one was MSII and the engine was different. Art
  12. First time working with MSII. Car L28 Stock with headers and MSA Stage I CAM and 60mm TB. If anyone has a working msq, I would appreciate a screen print of the setup. Or a copy of your msq. Art
  13. Google "Best Man Speech" It will give you some sites with good examples. My brother did that for my other brothers wedding and it was the best "Best Man Speech" I ever heard.
  14. They are John C's old wheels, Kodiaks. They no longer make that style.
  15. Oh yeah its Bike city at Newcombs Ranch. Not too many of them have the balls to lean it over as much as they need to to keep up with a well handling car. They usually wait to pass on the straights, except the time I took my 240ZT.
  16. I regularly take one of my Z's up Angeles Crest for Breakfast on Sundays. Bunch of us meet at the Shell station at Angeles Crest and the 210 at 7:30am if you can get up that early. Next run on 7th of May. Nothing dangerous, but lots of fun. Art
