  1. Still trying to wire up my 280Z and it is pretty confusing. I asked a bunch of questions in the S30 section but no answers really. I have some new ones though and first off, what are all these relays in the picture?

For the combo switch, where does the White/Red switch go? I see it goes to some fusible links and then it gets confusing to me.

I see that ignition relays are pretty expensive online. Do I need one of these special relays or will my bosche style 40 amp one be good enough?

Is a transistor unit needed? Just asking because it didn't come with my EZ wiring kit

  2. I bought an EZ wiring kit and I thought it was a bit hard trying to adapt it to my car so what I did was rip the wires out of it and try to follow the 1976 wiring diagram (I have a 75). I have a few questions though about how to do this right.

    1) I know the headlights are ground switched so I followed the relay diagram from the Atlantic Z site. I need to connect my high beam wire to the gauge along with the turn signals. Not sure if the turn signals run off of the ground like the headlights but how do I connect them to my Speedhut gauges? Is there anything special I would need to do to make them work?

    2) My combination switch doesn't look right. Rather than Red/Black and Red/White on the left combination switch, I have Red/White and Red/Yellow which I thought was just the power. Also there is a pack of thin white wires with a red stripe, black stripe, and I think a green stripe on it. Does anyone recognize these combination switches? How do I wire this up? Should I just get new switches?

    3) How can I connect multiple wires into one easily for the ignition accessory, on, and start? Which wires should go where? I tried splicing into other wires and it takes a lot of room and looks messy.

    4) What should I have a relay for in my car? What should be connected to the fuse block?

    5) I am looking at the Crazy Octopus wiring diagram and he has an 80 amp fuse coming off the battery. I can't really find this kind of fuse holder. Can someone point me towards one?

    6) How do you determine what size fuse to use for every wire connected to the fuse block?

    7) The 1976 diagram has a transistor unit and voltage regulator but the EZ wiring harness did not have any of these. I have Megasquirt ready to go in so do I need these things? What else can I drop from the rewiring?

    8) Do I need a special fuel injection or ignition relay that is different from the 40 amp bosch styled ones I have?

    9) I see everyone complaining about how strange it was that the turn signals are connected to the hazard switch. Since I have all wires pulled out of the car, is there an easier and smarter way to set my turn signals and hazard switches wired up?

  3. Well, for my parking light, I have them grounded to various bolts in the car. So fr testing purposes, I need them to connect to the ground on the battery or any other grounding spot?

The reason why I am doing this is because the light switch wires of my 1975 do not match with the ones from the 1976 color diagram. I can't make sense of it so I have some trial and error testing to do later on

  4. I have my car all wired up now but I want to test it to see if I did it correctly. I want to be as safe as possible since I have never done wiring before and I don't have anyone to help me.

My car is in pieces so what I did was connect a 14 gauge wire to the battery (just on the floor not connected to anything), add a fuse connection with a 20 amp fuse, and connect my parking lights to the fuse connection on the other side. I am thinking that everything will just light up, correct?

So I am wondering if this is safe to do for everything I want to test on my car. The other problem I have is I can't find my ground wire to connect to the chassis. Do I have to have a ground wire hooked up? Since I don't have one handy, can I just strip some 14 gauge wire, connect to a bolt and wrap it around the negative side?

Any other comments or tips for seeing if my wiring is done right?

  5. I have the color wiring diagram for the 1976 280z but the diagram is a bit confusing. Wires lead the the fuse block but it doesn't seem like it connects to the battery or alternator.

So where do I connect the fuse block wires? To the alternator or battery? If I have 10 fuses combining into one giant positive wire, do I put another larger fuse for the wire itself?

  6. I have a 240sx transmission and a T-5 transmission from a 280ZX turbo. I would like to do the 240sx transmission swap to the L28et I have but I realized after pulling my T-5 that the bellhousing is 2 pieces and isn't the ideal one for the swap.

I have been looking on craigslist for 4 months now and I don't see any 5 speed transmissions for a 280Z. I do however see NA 280ZX transmissions often.

Is the NA 280ZX transmission the same as the 280Z 5 speed? Can I machine the 280ZX bellhousing so I can get the 240SX transmission in?

  7. Whew! I got it on but not ALL the way down. I didn't have a torch to get it heated and pretty much everything in my little town is closed on Sundays.

I put motor oil around the neck of the gas tank and after some more tries, I was able to slip the rubber neck about 70% of the way. I tightened the clamp an it seems like it should work.

Hopefully my oil as lube method won't screw anything up. It won't.........right?

  8. I am slowly putting my car back together and I can,t remember how the fuel vapor lines connected. There are 2 lines coming off the top rear of the gas tank that go through 2 premade holes near the back of the trunk.

But there is a premade hole a little closer to the right front of the trunk area that I can't figure out. Where does this hose connect? I don't have anymore lines to connect to except for the gas lines.

My Haynes manual shows a diagram of a 260Z that apparently has more vapor tank connections

  9. I am planning on doing the 240sx transmission swap into my L28et and I need to modify my Borg Warner 280zx transmission bell housing.

In all the pictures of the swap though, the old Datun bell housings are one piece. Will my 2 piece bell housing work or should I search for another Datsun bell housing?
