I've been lurking for awhile absorbing what I can.
I recently purchased a 78 280z (less motor and interior) and am planning on a 385 LT1/T56 swap. The motor and tranny are currently in my street driven 96 Z28 , which has run 11.5's at 117 NA (3850 lbs). So actually I will be de-modding my Camaro and building the 280Z. A stock-ish motor will be going back into the Camaro. The nazi emissions folks have gotten under my skin, so my solution is to build a small, light, sporty street/strip car that they don't bother with... hence the Hybrid project. Before my next emissions test I'd have to convert the Camaro back to OBDII for emissions since they plug into the ALDL to test now. The sad part is the car has passed the roller test easily. (currently run OBDI computer and LT1-edit. !EGR, !crank position sensor, !post cat O2's, !air pump, cam sets misfire codes in OBDII and a number of other issues ) My OBDI computer will be going into the 280Z.
I am in Damascus, Maryland and have been very active with the MAFB, Mid-Atlantic F-body list. I hope to be active here as well.
I have only just begun pulling things apart and started sanding and prepping the body. (real poor paint job) but the car seems fairly sound with some rust under the battery tray and little rust elsewhere. I lightly sand blasted the front frame rails looking for problems and found no rust, so it seems to be a good base.
