    Second. There IS a law that says that the car has to be registered here. However, if you can swing keeping it registered out of state somehow, that would be the best way to do it.

     

    Gollum, can you clarify somethin' for me? He will have to smog it every other year becuase it's an 81, but pre-smog vehicles, 75 and older according to DMV person I last talked to, don't need to be smogged at all.

  2. I am by no means an expert, especially on the L6, but here I wanted to throw this out there. When rebuilding an engine, it's not necessarily a good thing that everything is spotless and shiny. My experience comes from motorcycles mainly, especially dirt bikes, and when something was clean inside, it was usually toast. The bearings tend to be fried and, on a two stroke, cylinders worn. Eec564, I don't mean to counteract you, as you have stated that there was "barely measurable wear." Just throwing something out there.

     

    That being said, I had a big Schneider cam in a SBC that ran great until the day someone stole the car. Got the motor back in pieces and the cam looked perfect. Of course, that cam is 15 years old.

  3. Savage. I started designing my first tattoo when I was 19. I started drawing it on myself when I was 20. I had it on my body, kept touching it up, for six months before I decided to do it. I had the design in hand for just over a year before I had it inked. I had to wait three months for an appointment with the guy I wanted to do the work. Three years later, and I've never regretted it. The quality is great- I still catch people talking about it when my shirt is open. They all think it's fresh. My mom loves it too which doesn't hurt.

     

    All that to say, think about it dude. Work at it and work at it and work at it. Get it perfect. Find an artist whose work that you like and whose older work you have seen. Also, not to knock the skills of people on this forum, because there is talent here, but I would go talk to the tattooist you're looking at working with. His perspective will be influenced by how things look on skin and not on paper or computer screen.

     

    Last but most important. Good tattoos are not cheap, and cheap tattoos are not good. That's the truth, brotha!

  4. How do you get the stuff off if you wanted to remove an emblem?

     

    There is a wheel you use that looks like hard plastic. You stick it in the end of a regular hand drill and it just peels the stuff right off. A lot of people call it an Eraser Wheel. They come smooth and serrated. I'm not sure what the benefit of either is, I've only used the smooth one.

    Actually, it came with the car. I didn't know anything about Datsuns when I bought my 280 so it was helpful at first on a few things. Mostly now I just use it for the pictures. When I can't seem to get my head around something, like under the dash I grab the book and see what it's supposed to look like. If it still doesn't work, I come on HZ and search for a while.

    Haha, ok. White passes my approval. You could throw a pearl in the clear, either blue or purple and it would shift in the sun a bit. I put House of Kolor Purple Iridescent Pearl in one coat of clear on my old racebike. It was black with PPG Perfect White number plates. The number plates looked SWEET from the right angle.

  7. I've done some practice after teaching wheelie classes in the parking lots we use. But that's been limited to V6 mustang rental cars. I don't think my Z would hold up too well even if it didn't need some serious engine surgery. Actually, I take it back, I've drifted it, but only on the dirt roads in a housing development that was being built around my old house.

  8. I've seen these before as well. They are in an episode of one of the Video Podcasts I used to subscribe to before my ipod got stolen. I can't remember exactly which one it is though. It's impressive driving, stuff that you'd spend years learning to do. Talk about trusting the other drivers too.

  9. Mull, a grey is a good idea, but becuase the flat surfaces on the Z are so much smaller than the Lamborghini's it could look dull without about 10 layers of clear coat. I say do the grey, but do a layer of pearl over it before clearing, maybe in blue. It will "pop" a lot more, especially with all the small body line changes.

  10. I agree that some of this weight is for safety/structural improvements, but the new Mustang and Camaro weigh close to two tons! That's a heavy weight.

     

    I have yet to be impressed with a mustang built in the last 15 years. The new ones especially. I've driven them, and they just aren't inspiring.

  11. True, weight has a lot to do with safety, but older heavier cars are still fairly safe to each other in comparison to little cars of the '80s. A lot of the weight is also taken up by the crazy interiors that cars these days have. Plus, all the extra sensors and computers add up, even gram by gram. After a certain point, they don't care how much weight they add becuase it won't make a difference.

     

    However, when it comes to performance cars, they, most of the manufacturers, are LIGHT YEARS ahead of anything that the average American can buy. Performance cars will gradually become more effecient though for certain, and that's the main importance. The more effecient they can make a high powered engine, the better the trickle down technology will be.

  12. Man, the 2+2s are so ugly. They look totally deformed. Definately a steal for someone wanting to do a conversion though. Even if just for the wheels and mirrors. Even if this car were close by though, I have nowhere to store it. Six months ago I went from having 9 cars with room for 20 more to room for two.
