  1. So they machine shop should just be able to lighten and balance it by itself? What do I tell them, that the engine is "already balanced internally"? I don't want to sound like I don't know what I'm talking about when I go over there and he tells me he doesn't recommend it.

  2. I have a 240mm flywheel that I plan to have lightened and put on my turbo motor. When I called the machine shop they said that in order to balance the flywheel after lightening that I had to break the whole engine down. I've attempted to rebuild the engine mostly by myself b/c of money issues. I did not have the crank turned or balanced and now I'm worried that might be a problem but it wasn't out of tolerance when I pulled it. Am I in trouble now (I kept the same pistons and everyting, just changed bearings and had the head reworked) and can the flywheel be balanced without the rest of the engine?

  3. I know some of this has been discussed and I've read a lot but I just wanted to ask. Somehow I seem to have LOST my turbo flywheel during engine rebuild, seems hard to do right? Anyway I'm hoping for about 300hp when I finish all the mods I want to do. Should I go to the junkyard and grab another turbo or 2+2 flywheel and have it resurfaced or just get an aluminum one. I won't do a lot of racing mostly just want to be able to beat all the cars on the street around town. So buy another flywheel and have resurfaced ~$100 or just go aluminum ~$300. Is the $200 difference worth it for just driving hard around town and the occasional weekend race. Also I'm planning to get a SPEC clutch. Is it worth the extra money for the stage 2+, it has carbon-kevlar material as apposed to just kevlar for the stage 2. Will it wear better? Thanks for your input.

  4. I'm rebuilding an 82 turbo motor and want to replace the clutch before I put it back in. I've read about using a stock Daikin or Exedy clutch kit with a "heavy duty" pressure plate. This sounds good to me because I don't want a super stiff pedal but I don't want slippage either. Does anyone know a specific model or part number for this pressure plate? I have a 240mm turbo flywheel and hope to eventually have around 250-300 hp daily driver without much racing.

  5. So last weekend I tried to istall my standard size Sealed Power Piston Rings. TOO MUCH GAP. So I ordered 50mm oversized ones, and when I was filing the last of the second rings it broke. I want to scream. Does anyone know where I can buy just one cylinder 50mm oversized Sealed Power Ring set. I don't want to spend money on a whole nother set.

  6. Is there anything wrong with a turbo oil pump form victoria british? I was looking at my catologue the other day and I think they were less than $70. That seems like a pretty good deal, especially since I need to make an order from them soon anyway.

  7. I'm planning to get the MSA dp for my turbo and then go 3" exhaust into a Dynomax Ultraflo muffler. I know these have been discussed a lot and I have read a lot about them. Everyone talks about them being quiet. This is my daily driver (77 280z, 82 turbo engine) so I don't want it too loud, but I want it to sound modified. So I don't mind if it's pretty loud. So which ultraflo fits well in the 280z and isn't too quiet?

  8. There is a bead blaster where I am working this summer, and I am wondering what all I should blast while my engine is dissasembled. I don't know what can be damaged and what can handle it. The block and head are already cleaned, but can I do the pistons, manifolds, or anything else?

  9. I think this is one of the best looking z's I've seen and I'm about to paint my car and want to know if a paint job like this would cost more than a good crimson paint job. Do the materials that make this dark silver look so shiny cost a lot more than it would cost to make a crimson shiny. I know it's kind of a strange question, but this car looks so much better than some dark silver cars dI've seen. It's the one about half way down the page in the grass with the hood open.

maybe it's just the lighting cause I know that's a big deal, but I was just curious cause the dark silver car on the front of a recent VB catologue doesn't look nearly that good.

  10. Well I'm doing a turbo swap and getting the body on my 77 painted all at the same time. Of corse I'm running out of money. I want a paint job that looks good and lasts a long time, but not show car. I've heard that the most expensive part is prep work and I'm wondering how much of it I can practically do. The car has a pretty big dent in the passenger fender. It has a slite ripple down each side where I think molding used to be. Its got rust under the battery, a rusted out passenger floorboard, rust along the bottom of the doors (rusted through on the body nothing on the doors themselves), and some rust along the back where the lights and bumper go. I've already got everything off. And its got a really bad paint job on it. So I'll probably need to do a lot of sanding. How realistic would it be for me to do the prep, body work. After buying materials (sander, bondo, etc) would I save much. I've never done this before, but I'm pretty artistic and can learn pretty fast. I hope y'all can advise me in this. Thanks a lot.

  11. Well I'm planning to run megasquirt so I don't THINK I need to vent back and I like the sound. I've heard people say that about every aftermarket bov leaks (except HKS, don't want to spend that much) so which is really the best. I would like it kinda loud, but also reliable. Would this be Greddy S, Blitz DD, TurboXS H, others?

  12. I'm doing a turbo swap into my 77 5spd and need advice on what else to buy. I'm looking for about 300rwhp and it's a daily driver. Here's my plan so far

    already have:

82 zxt engine(doing rebuild, got the head worked, keeping stock pistons)

    jsk fuel rail

440cc supra injectors (going to have cleaned)

    need:

    larg i/c (ebay)

fpr(need advice there, what specs am I looking for)

    t3/t04e 50(57) trim

    K&N intake

    2.5" piping

    3" exhaust

    custom dp

    autometer boost gauge

    240sx tb

fuel pump(do I need walbro 255lph or can I go with MSD 43gph for cheaper)

    turboxs H bov

    non egr intake

    and hopefully MSnS

I guess I'll be running around 15psi boost to get 300hp but I'm not sure.

Does this sound good and is there anything else I need? I've searched a lot and I think this is it but better safe than sorry. Is there anything I need to replace while the engine is apart and what do I need for the fpr and fuel pump. Thanks a lot.

  13. I'm just wondering if it's possible or practical to buy a full To4b or To4e and swap the exhaust housing with the stock t3 exhaust housing to make a hybrid. This may have already been addressed but I couldn't find it. You probably can't or I would have heard more about it but I thought I'd ask since sometimes they are cheaper than hybrids. Thanks guys.

  14. Thanks so much Jersey, I don't know how I missed those, I scan Ebay all the time.... I've been on this site for a long time and am well aware of the search function as I have used it many times. The springs I am looking for have been discontinued and I have already tried ordering them from three different vendors. That's why I was asking the question, not because I was looking for a freebie answer.
