  1. Correct Ross on the aftermarket breather. I have an L28ET motor and not an NA.

Good explanation Josh. I didn't think about the back flow and I didn't test for that. When everyone mentioned the PCV, I just assumed everyone was talking about the PCV being clogged.

I've never had this problem when I got my car together a few years back until the last year this started happening.

  2. Here's what I noticed. While engine is running I removed the hose that connects to the PCV and faint white smoke is coming out from the hose as well from the breather filter on top of the top valve cover of the engine. It's faint white smoke as well. I noticed the PCV is sucking a lot of air in. When I rev the engine air is coming out of the hose it's not strong but air is differently coming out more than it was idling. Also while reving the smoke stops coming out from the hose and the breather filter.

Is this bad rings or bad crank seal? or something else?

  3. Thanks Calvin / Ross. My motor has less then 60k on the rebuild. I don't think it's the rings but then I could be wrong. I don't get smoke out the tail pipe when I rev it hard but I do drive it hard. Just to give you an idea how much air I'm pushing. I have a ATP .57trim t04/t3 hybrid running about 14lbs going through a custom huge intercooler. Managed through Haltech E6X. Besides the injectors engine is pretty much stock with all the emissions stuff removed.

I'm going to replace the PCV Valve since I'm removing it. I'm hoping to find it clogged.

So did I properly replaced the seal and do you recommend using rubber seal sealant? Do you think I'll to replace the seal again since the oil got through it?

  4. I had a problem with oil spraying out from the front crank seal only when under boost. I just replaced the front seal and it's worst than before. This is my first crank seal I've replaced and I'm not sure if I installed it incorrectly.

    Here's how I installed it:

    - Cleaned out area where seal seats.

    - Installed seal and made it flush outer housing. I'm not sure if I was suppose push it in all the way or making flush was correct. Also I didn't put any kind of sealant. I didn't see any old seal residue so I didn't put any one.

    - Install crank pulley and bolt.

I didn't notice anything leaking when idling.

Btw I used a Nissan seal from the dealer and not from the local parts store.

  5. Thanks guy's That helped. I also rented the harmonic balancer puller. It's amazing they let you rent it for free.

Btw I had a hard time moving the bolt. It was in gear and the break was on but the crank kept on spinning but so was the rear wheel.

Here's how I eventually got it out without using an impact gun.

  6. Sorry to kind offset the thread. I have to remove my front crank pulley to change the front seal. I have to rent some tools because I don't have the sockets big enough for the crank bolt. What size socket do I need? Anything I should watch out for when removing the pulley? I'm hoping this the same steps as the 81 l28t motors.

    Thanks in advance.

  7. semi off topic - how is that mountain drive? I don't really head that far south very often. I usually drive bear creek/wild cat canyon wich isn't in very good shape in some areas. I like alhambra valley rd too but it didin't like winter last year and there's lots of residential areas in there and I don't like to disturb people.

Starting from San Jose (you would want to start here), not so good of a ride to Observatory. Watch out the bikecycles, motorcycles will watch out for you . It's 1/3 or 1/4 of the way to the whole route. Probably will take you up to 30min to get there.

Once you past the observatory.... what a ride! For the most part it's a smooth ride. Make sure you take livermore at the split or you'll end up at patterson highway 5.

Just want to remind anyone going all out on this mountain, not to cross the yellow divider or you might hit a biker. Don't want to take someone's life being stupid. Basically to drive over your limit. If your going to drift, drift at night because I guarantee you will hit motorcycle in the day time.

  8. Me and my homies were doing the twisties on Satuday with our bikes. We got to the highest point of Mt. Hamilton (Observatory) in Bay Area. If anyone has watch initial D, that's how it looks like from top looking down. It was cool watching them go up, looked like initial d with Z's with out the drifting:confused2. My friend said oew check out those Z's haven't see them in a long time, they look sick. Even better it sounded like they had the stock su carbs. It's dead silence up there and can you imagine the sounds they were making going up the hill.

The first one was had a good paint job, dark grey. The second one was a dark color also and was on his ass.

  9. Foose.... I watch almost all the overhauling shows. Said to myself he's defaintly one of the best when it came to domestic cars old and new. Then I recently saw an overhauling show with an older honda civic. Seeing so many honda's around, they don't catch my attention. The civic Foose did was very nicely done. Loved the widebody he modified, rear intergrated wing made by another truck lid. The bottom rear kit. The only thing I didn't really like was the grill. Seems like he been doing imports for a while.

He is defaintly the Man when it comes to complete overhauling or conversions in domestics and imports.

  10. I have a 72 240Z and i have a really bad clunk in my rear end and I am not sure what it is. I have replaced the bolts that bolt the driveshaft to the rear diff. and if they are too loose in the whole could make the clunk? I have tightened them as much as I could' date=' could they still not be tight enough? The clunk is really bad when i am driving and i take my foot off the gas, and when i go from forward to reverse theres a clunk and vice versa. Please any help at all will be awesome

    Thanks Brad[/quote']

Check your driveshafts bolt for safety but I'm thinking more that diff strap is broken.

  11. Stock, there not fast. My Z ran a Z06 with exhaust and intake @ Sac raceway. Consistant @ 12.1 - 12.4. Who ever had the better launch would win.

The new Z06 might be something to worry about. One of the magazines tested the new Z06 and was doing 11.7. You know magazines tests are usually slower then the actual quarter mile times.

I didn't read the article, just saw it on the front page of the mag and said Damm! that's fast.
