  1. I'm supprise you didn't like the 944t - does low 14's stock.

Superchargers are good but your upgrades are limited.

You can do a lot more upgrades on a Turbo car it all depends how much you want to spend.

In my opinion the 280zx stock turbo has no turbo lag. Just like the supercharger there very little boost at low rpm. It all depends how you drive the car.

Here's one thing you can do on the fly with a turbo which you can't on a supercharger... by pushing a button on a electronic boost controller you can instantly add 100hp. The electronic boost controller will increase the amount of boost you set it to. It all depends on your setup and defiantly not on a stock turbo or stock setup.

For example Tim's 240z is pushing almost 500hp rwhp if he wanted to he can just set it at 350hp by running lower boost and bump it back up on the fly.

There are also more downside of a turbo compared to a supercharger.

Sorry it's long; well theres my why not answer...

  2. Tim,

The muffler you got will give you extra room for what your trying to do. I got a similar Dynomax muffler that is 19" long and still had room for a 3" manderal bent pipe.

You may need to do more fab work if you want it nice as Pete's.

Here's a link to a post I replied to showing the clearance I have using the 19" muffler and 3" manderal bent piping. http://www.hybridz.org/ubb/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic;f=19;t=000086

In my setup it was easier to have better ground clearance because I'm using only a single pipe. Try to get it as high as posible or you'll be scrapping on speedbumps.

  3. Ask Jeffp on his exhaust system. His email is mrjeff@worldnet.att.net It's a 3" turbo back system.

He dyno'd a completely stock 280zxt car, then he dyno'd the same car with his exhaust system. He gain 20HP at the wheel. I must say that's really good.

HKS has a cat back exhaust but it will cost you more Jeffp's complete turbo back exhaust.

  4. I was doing trying to do a donut on Jon's (Jumbo240Z) car but made a big donut. There is a difference between my LSD and the phantom grip. My LSD whips you into a donut. I have a feeling Jon's car is over powering the phantom grip. or maybe I have to try the donuts the otherway.

It does leave two lonnnggg tire marks when I launched the car. Even though I played with the throttle during the burnout, the phantom grip didn't break loose to one leg.

So that's the results on Jon's car. Unfortunately we couldn't do more. We were 3 blocks away from residential area and someone ran out yelling to keep it down. :D

Defiantly worth the Money but not a true LSD.

Sorry Tom, didn't mean to start the Nice car compliments on Ricks's car. Someone would have eventually done it.

The Muffler was only $65 at summitracing.com and you need 2 3" 90 degree manderal bent pipes. I forgot where I got mine but if they cost more then $15 a piece keep looking. Make sure the muffler shop has made 240Z exhaust system before or print out the pictures I put on the forum so he can get an idea. My piping was routed at the edge of the driveshaft tunnel.

When I mentioned scrapping the pipes, I actually don't remember scrapping them at all :D

Let me know if you need more info.

This is just my opinion, so no cuss.gif hostility cuss.gif por favor. But the pictures struck such a chord that I had to express my outlook...and the outlook is YUCK! puke.gif

Where you talking about the Pontiac or the 350Z or both? Just curious?

You don't need a password, just click "OK'.

My rear end is making a lot of noise. What is the ratio of the LSD and will it swwap out with the one that I have in the car? If so how much modifications?

Bradford, since you have a 82Z all you have to do is swap your yoke (the part where driveshaft attaches to on your rear diff). The finned diff. cover may fit if not just use put your diff. on the LSD R200. Here's mine...

Who ever is interested I got my Brace from Dave (V8-240Z@juno.com). He sells them for $90 shipped. This brace allows you to use the finned cover on a 70-78Z. I have a feeling the 79-83 has enough clearance. I have old version, the new version is lighter.

  8. Damm Rick you have one of the nices Z's I've seen.

    Anyway :D

If you want a good flowing muffler for a turbo, I would suggest Dynomax. Flow Master is great for NA cars because of the chambers helping with the back pressure. I've been told flow master doesn't give you as much HP as other mufflers. Better then stock of course.

I'm sure this mufflers flows as good as Rick's Magneflow SS muffler because it's also a straight through muffler and it's also 3" You can drop a golf ball and it will come out the other end.

You can barely see the muffler. This is the same muffler to the right. Perfect for a Z car. As you can see below no cambers so no restriction.

    rear.jpgUltraFloSS_cutaway.gif

Allows the piping to be mounted higher.

    zspeed_1026009951.jpgpipe2.jpg

This muffler gave me more clearance so the 3" piping won't scrap as much.

At idle it sounds like a V8 and from starting from a dead stop it sounds like a V8. Cruising the freeway it's quite unit I get on it. Cruising in a parking garage at 5-10mph does makes other car alarms give a warning chirp. I'm happy with this muffler plus I don't get headaches on long drives.

    I kind'a like this one:

Be careful of harborfreight. I purchased a work bench on Feb 29, 2002. I got it three weeks later. It was missing all the drawer rails ugg.gif . I finally got a tracking number from the manager Wednesday July 3, the same day they sent it out. He said they shipped it next day. I didn't see it Friday.

I called almost everyweek. They wouldn't give me the CEO's number or email. They wouldn't give me there managers number or email. They would either put me on hold and misterously hang up or say give it three weeks to arrive cuss.gif . Just wanted to share my nightmare with Harbor Freight. Hopefully there's a local shop in your area.

Good Luck on your search and remember you usually get what you pay for. Make sure to do the research on the model before buying it.

  10. Seems like the Supra is the king of imports here in the US. That's very impressive that they can handle 900hp+ on a stock block. I believe the highest HP I've seen on the web a stock block is 921rwhp. I wish I had one.

In Japan it's a different story. In my opinion the Skyline is the king over there. High HP with AWD means great accelaration and great handling. I wish they sold Skyline here at the dealers.

  11. LOL, Your car is far from looking like a turd. The only thing is people might think your trying to look fast but little do they know you are.

One of my wife's little sister's friend said his little import would smoke my car and wanted to race me. I saw the car and laughed, I couldn't help it. He had intake stock block and a loud exhaust - the car was basically stock. Just because our car's are old school doesn't mean they run like one.

Hey keep us updated on the fuel rail... 2thumbs.gif

  12. Hello... Can someone please help me with map settings for the SDS on my current configuration? What I have is a NPR IC, Mercedes 420cc or 480cc(depends who you ask :D ), and Stage III T3/T04B .57 trim .63 a/r turbo.

    Much Thanks in Advance!!!

  13. Hey Guy's...

Don't mean to sound like a dick or anything but I just wanted to suggest how to re-use the same post when testing out your picture(s) or signature. I just wanted to save server space for our system ops. Those pictures adds up quickly and takes up drivespace quicker then people think. Lets do our System Ops a favor

If your trying to increase your post count then that would be a different story bonk.gif or showing different pictures.

    If Interested here's how...

    - Make your first post with your test picture.

    - If you need to change it, edit your profile.

    - Just go to the bottom and click the edit botton and your done. The first post you made will now have your updated changes without adding a new post.

Some of you already knows how to do this, if you don't here ya go....

    Thanks for looking 2thumbs.gif

  14. I'm going to have to disagree with Speaker (no bashing intended). Actually everything he mentioned is totally the opposite. I only agree if youre talking about the old models. I do agree on Mercedes, Infinity, Lexus give you the same treatment, which they all treat you good.

You have to own one to actually know the truth. I know a person who traded his E46 M3 (yes the new M3) for the new Z06 406HP Corvette. He mentioned, “Yeah the Corvette is a better performer but doesn’t compare to the BMW especially in the Luxury side. He said, “Compared to the BMW the Corvette is just a muscle car”.

As for the performance side of its own car class, there’s no car that can out perform the M3 or M5, not Mercedes, Lexus, Infinity, Ford, Chevy, etc. There are only a few cars in stock form that you can take to a road course and actually keep up with other cars that are modified. An M3 does low 13’s in the quarter mile, extremely slow is an understatement. I bet if you put DR’s and turn off the Traction control it would hit 12’s.

I hope you get a chance to test drive a new M3, I think you will be pleased. If you do, push the car as hard as you can in acceleration and cornering – I doubt you will get to it’s limits unless you have some good experience in road course / race track.

I won't mention the real utter crappy manufactures with stale looks and stale interiors
