  1. Responding to Mudjr12:

Here are a couple of pictures of my rear tub connection. As I mentioned earlier, the rear end of donor had to be hammered in, to allow to move the tub forward. I used rubber grommets to attach rear of tub to frame, and riveted the front of the tub. I use to convert 914 Porsche's to 916 GT's, and used a similar process for the rear fenders. As you can see by the pictures of the doorskins, I did cut off the rear edges of the doors, and raised the new door skins out about 1/2 inch using nylon rope to meet flush with the rear tub. I will finish the doors and front tub mounting area using glass and putty. Hope this helps.

Are you planning on using the spray foam at all or will the rubber grommets and rivets be it for attaching the rear tub?

Thanks for the pics. How are you planning to finish the door edge where the rope is?

  2. I was wiggling the hood a little today to see how well it lines up and the whole thing broke free from the mount.

It was fiberglassed with some layers to the mount. I'll email John Washington and see what the best way to line it up is before I reglue it.

Any ideas? What should I use to refasten it? I'll post some pics tomorrow.

    The adventure continues....

Oh, I got my taillights from Opel Gt Source yesterday. They are going to look great. Any ideas how to cut a perfectly round 4 - 5" hole in the back?

What did you guys do to get your taillights lined up perfectly? Nothing square to measure from.

Thanks a bunch. It's great with so many of us building at the same time.

  3. My hood sides don't seem to stick out as far as yours. I suspect yours warped a little after they came out of the mold. Email John Washington and see if he has a solution.

You might be able to use side latches like what they use on the Factory Five coupes. Check out factoryfive.com.

I'm curious how you fastened your rear tub at the doors. I've tried hammering the door openings and it didn't work very well.

And I was one of the 500 lucky Californians as well. No smog ever for this brute. It's fuel injricted and set up for Arizona smog, with cat and all. I'll probably keep it that way, but I'm glad I don't have to pass a CARB and sniff test.

  4. As I'm getting closer to completing the VR, I'm thinking about driving characteristics. I know the Z car experiences quite a bit of front end lift at anything over about 70 mph and tends to wander on the road.

For the people that have finished a GTO conversion. Does the car still do this with the new body? I know that Ferrari had issues with this to some extent.

Have you considered any kind of front spoiler or diffuser on the front?

Have you put a pan underneath or done anything to change airflow?

For drivers that have headlight covers. Did that make a difference? John Washington no longer sells the headlight covers and I'm thinking about doing something different, but not if I need the covers to help keep the front end down.

  5. When I bought my z, the previous owner had started installing a set of these shocks in the back. He did one side and I need to install the other.

The box says they are adjustable, but there are no instructions. Anyone know how to adjust them?

Can I tell from the outside how the one that is already installed is adjusted or will I need to pull it out to check it?

    Thanks for any help.

  6. I'll see if I can post a pic. I'm about a quarter way through the VR conversion.

I live in Greenbrae, CA, near San Francisco. The car has a Chevy 350 with Holley Projection, Vortec Heads (around 400 HP). Toyota truck brakes in front and 240SX discs in back.

  7. I'm looking to change seats for my Vello Rosa. I bought a pair of Miata seats from Stan the Handyman and liked the idea of having speakers built into the headrests. Now that I have the top cut off the car, the Miata seats look too short. The headrest just barely clears the side of the car. They need to be shorter and look like period Cobra seats or taller. So I'm thinking of switching to seats from the first gen 300ZX, but only if they are a direct bolt in. If I have to fabricate a mounting for them, then I will open up the options to something else. I've seen the 300s in another Vello Rosa recovered in leather and they looked great in it.

So, do the 300zx seats need a fabricated mount?

  8. Just wanted to chime in that I've got a VR kit. I've got the nose on and have test fitted the rear tub for the first time. I'd be interested in the headlight cover and ring. I was hoping that John W. would be able to come up with those before I finish the car.

The car has a Chevy 350 in it with vortec heads and holly pro-jection fuel injection. If anyone can teach me how to post pics, I'll upload some as I go along.

In in the SF Bay area, just north of San Francisco. I keep hoping to find someone that would like to work together on my car and one of theirs --doesn't have to be a VR. I'd just like the company.

  9. The ebay link to the picture is not active anymore. Do you have any other pics? I have a Vello Rossa kit and I'm also looking to do something more modern with the wheels. I fell in love with the FastForward Mustang that was auctioned/donated on ebay and like the idea of taking the classic and updating it. I'm considering other modifications to the interior/exterior as well to add to the look. Since I'm doing the convertible, I'm not at all worried/interested in maintaining the "period" look.

  10. I know this should be in the classified section, but I posted an ad twice and it was deleted both times.

I have a used wide body kit (adds about 4" a side in back) for sale. The rear was stripped from another car, but done fairly well. Like with any kit, you'll need to know what you are doing to bond it and smooth it into the body. One of the front fenders has a dent/hole in it that will need to be repaired.

    It's near San Francisco.

Email me at mikey_clark@sbcglobal.net for pictures.

    SOLD!
