  1. i just picked up a maxima n47 at the salvage yard. I see that it has round exhaust ports. i was told that a header for square ports will fit, but i dont know how well that works for performance. is there a round port header that will fit and not have any clearance problems in my 260z?

  2. the ITBs, in my opinion, are way better than a single TB. ITBs increase Volumetric Efficiency by alot, especially with a ram type air box. they maybe harder to tune, but when tuned right, the throttle response is leagues ahead of a single TB. But the tuning is key, and unless you can do it yourself, its goin to cost big bucks. Buying an after market fuel controller is def recommended.

  3. im all about what your saying, most of that stuff i am goin with. but i think for brakes im goin to run the arizona zcar set up, ive always like that set up ever since we ran them on our scca rx-7. of course it was a little different, but the same idea with the 2 part rotor and wilwood calipers (prob the best on the market)

  4. sounds awesome, its nice to hear how someone has taken care of their datsun for such a long time.

i was thinkin of getting the crane cams ignition but have heard alot about reliability with them. so ive decided to spend the extra few bucs and go with the msd ignition. . does any one know what the best/popular 6-series igniton is?

and isnt the zx flywheel bigger than the z, not just the clutch? and if it is what did you do about the starter? ive got a four speed and im goin to try to stick with is as long as possible, i think its just the fact of being different, nothing to do with performance, although i guess itll be good when im pullin away from a little civic, less shifting

one last thing, i was thinkin about that harmonic problem, i really dont plan on takin my z up that high for constant power, so im sure it wont be a problem for me. i might actually set my rev limiter around there, depending on how my setup runs

  5. im goin to have to be negative and say there is no chance in hell thats goin to work. but youve done alot of nice work, and it LOOKS great. not sure about the bolts holding it together. you would def have to do some sort of welding so it doesnt leak, and so it will hold some sort of compression

  6. thanks again mort, and i talk to mack often on zcar forums. ill keep you guys updated. i still have to wait till im done with finals to start workin on the engine, but it doesnt mean i cant go shopping before then

  7. the n47 head im talking about came of a maxima actually and does have smaller valves than a zx and they are the same length. thats why i said mn47, m for maxima. its got the heart sheaped combustion chamber, and i believe 40cc. i dunno tell me if im wrong.

and i will get that book and read up anyways, doesnt do any harm to learn more.

  8. thanks mort for the info.

Well i plan on boring out a 280z block and boring it .040 over using 240 rods and forged pistons. I want to use the mn47 with larger zx valves. not sure what size cam yet, prob just a mild. i am also going to port match and polish my new tripple webber manifold. im quite possitive premium pump gas will be fine. otherwise im in trouble, this cars goin to be a gas guzzler. tell me what ya think

  9. o see i didnt know that about the crank, 7500. What if i bring it to get balanced some place? im pretty sure they can balance the crank above 7500.

And if im wrong whats the difference between the dielsel crank and the L6 crank? (stroke wise) cuz like i said before i DONT want a stroker

  10. im really aiming for around 12:1 but im sure ill only end up with 11:1, so nothing real crazy. ill prob run premium. my plan is to have a .040 overbore, with forged flattops. im really not looking for a stroker by far. but i liked the idea of getting more revs, even an extra 500 would be nice. but ive heard mixed opinions on the 240 rods, ive kinda been talked down from them. but if you have anything good to say about them im willing to listen

  11. well i dont know of any inexpensive aftermarket cranks. ive heard of using the ld28 crank (V07) but i dont want to change stock 2.8 crank specs.

and im actually not looking for the 240 rods to increase compression, id rather them not, i have other things in mind. so im guessing the answer im getting is a no for the rods?

  12. your right, i didnt mention but i plan on using forged pistons with a shorter deck height. using the 240 rods is supposed to increase rod to stroke ratio. But i have no proof of this, i just want to know if the rods will fit the 280 crank, and if the rods will actually allow higher revs.

and if anyone has done this, id like to know how it runs.

  13. i plan on building a n/a high compression 280z engine, and had questions on rods. i have read that 240 rods can be used to increase compresion while gaining better stroke. is this true? and if it is can they be used with stock 280 crank.

i plan on making other mods to the engine to increase compression. changing rods isnt all i have in mind. i would like to increase the rpms tho while im at it tho.
