  1. I really could use some advice in wiring the 21 circuits EZ wiring kit in my 1973 240z. If anyone has made this upgrade and wouldn't mind talking to me or sharing their experience please give me a call 661-910-5467. Any information you can provide will be appreciated. Please help
  2. HI Guys First post here for me , i usually read more than post and so far reading has got me a long way .. However im installing a EZ wiring 21 circuit harness in my 72 Z ... rear section is done , Engine bay is done , Dash is now full of speed hut gauges and so is done . A few questions about the column switches ... I have the indicators working and the headlights work dimmed and mainbeam . I have no parking/running lights or brake lights. I have 3 brake wires on the ez wire harness , orange is feed so i assume that goes to the brake switch , one is labelled brake which i assume goes to the other side of said switch. Third says brake and has a crimped connector on it , where does that go ? I have 2 grey wires labelled dimmer , one is long , one short . I have looked everywhere for a full complete wiring diagram to apply the EZ harness to the Datsun switch gear but have not found it .. If anyone knows of it's existent i'd be eternally grateful
  3. I have been reading a ton on this site and am ready to post wiring directions on the combo switch for those of you using an EZ Wiring harness. There may be some differences between what model combo switch you have; the one I am working with is off of a 260z and has a 9 pin wiper connector. Some of you may disagree with my wire labeling; well you are wrong; I got it from a guy who restores the combo switches and has done so for over 2 decades. I am going to trust his info and my success with wiring. You will notice a few changes in my chart than in previous posts by other members. Again, I know mine works and has not been altered in any way from the original Datsun wire colors and functions. Let me know if you have any questions. I am running a full LED lighting system around the car. 260z Combo Switch to EZ Wiring Harness.pdf
  4. Newbie post here that I am sure is covered somewhere else. I am wondering what holes you guys have used to transfer the engine wiring from the cabin (where the fuse box will sit). I bought this 240Z with it half restored from Wagz and I already pulled all of my wiring as I found I used the two holes for the heater core. arggg. I can't tell you how far I was with the wiring, but now I am back to square one. I am considering using the two holes that are on the far driver's side of the firewall. But there is a third hole just to the right of the hole for the throttle cable that I am considering as well. Anybody out there have any advice for me? Thanks for the assist!
  5. Hello my fellow Datsuneers, I am trying to plug in my EZ wiring harness to the ignition switch in my Datsun 240z. The problem is, I don't know what wire should go to the resistor tab. Any clarifications on what wires go to what specific contact point on the back of the switch? Telling me the wire colors is not going to help as I have no original wires from the Datsun left. Just the 5 prongs on the back of the switch that I need to connect the EZ wiring harness to. Any help?
  6. Where do I connect the Alt Power and Alt Excitor wires on the 280zx turbo alternator? When I plugged everything in, the alternator started smoking. How do I get this corrected? Also my 280zx alternator did not have a ground screw so I just added one from my nuts and bolts bin. Is this okay to do or does it have to be a specific size or fit? Just got my megasquirt working so I am dying to get it back on the road.
  7. I habe the EZ wiring harness and I know the Z cars have ground switched high beams and turn signals. Is there anything special we have to do to make this work with ground switched items? Or is it pretty much plug and play? What about adding a relay for the headlights? I see there is a diagram on Atlantic Z on adding a relay so would wiring the headlights to EZ's diagram change the way I need to add the headlight relay?
  8. I rewired my car surprisingly and everything works. So I decided to go a step further and add relays for the headlights and fuel pump. I started with the high beams first and I hooked it up with an extra relay to test it. What happened was the low beams wouldn't go on but the high beams would click on. They weren't brighter than before either. So I went ahead and added a relay for the low beams as well and now I don't have high or low beams. Does anyone know why or can point me in the right direction? This is what I did for high beams and low beams 30 - Battery 85 - ground 86 - headlight switch 87 - to headlights low/high I even tried the diagram listed on atlanticz 87 -
  9. I do not understand how to wire up the brake lights along with the running lights with the EZ wiring kit. The kit has a brown wire labeled Tail Park Lights and off of the brown wire is the connection to the license plate light. To accomodate the rear side markers, I soldered extra wires into my brown wire so that those will be connected. Now the problem is the only wire I have left to do is the Orange Third Brake Light wire. Where is the brake light wires in the harness I need to plug in? Am I adding a second wire off of the Third Brake light and then connecting those to my rear brake lights? How does this work?
  10. Got back into my rewire and hit a problem. I have been following this reference http://forums.hybridz.org/topic/58899-ezwiring-guide-still-not-complete/ And it says that my RED 01 Headlight power wire connects at the column and goes all the way out to the headlight connector. Yet in my harness, my RED 01 Headlight power only goes to the column section and no other wire is to be found in any of the other harnesses that could travel to the headlight connector. This is really bugging me because it makes no sense. IMO i really should only need a the low beam and high beam from the switch because they are being supplied power from the RED 01 wire. But I do not know what to do with the left over red wire at the connector that is suppose to be supplied by RED 01 according to the reference. I am thinking it should be grounded but I dont know. Help would be greatly appreciated
  11. So if I want driving lights and turn signals. If I splice turn signals into the marker lights, will they still blink if the lights are already engaged as driving lights, or atleast get brighter with more voltage. Also, the EZ kit calls them parking lights, these are what we call driving lights right?
  12. I am getting pretty overwhelmed when trying to wire my car. I am working on the back section of the car and I have everything wired up. When looking at a different section, I found "Left Front Brake" wire. What does this mean and where does it go? I read that the headlights should have some relays on it. Am I putting 2 relays on each headlight? One for high beam and another for the low beam for each side? What about the orange side markers? What wire am I connecting to those in the front and back side? I will have more questions as I get further.
  13. I'm going to try another post since my one from a couple days ago was a pretty poor one. I have a 1976 280z that I'm in the process of installing an 18 circuit ez wiring harness into with the original oem harness already installed. I'm at the stage of figuring out what is replaced by the ez wiring harness/fusebox and what needs to stay on the car to function. I'm trying to pull out the old harness off the front half of the car but it seems like its going to require some cutting and not simply unplugging some stuff and wiggling it out. Anyways some questions: 1) Transistor Ign box. 2) Some kind of vacuum control unit under the hood on the pass side near the strut tower. I'm assuming I need to keep these thing but how? Where do they run to/ are they easily removable from the oem harness. I appreciate your time and I'm sure I'll have a lot more questions as I try to figure out how a 30 year old car works. Anybody who has been through this with AIM or wouldn't mind being PMed with additional questions, It'd help a lot.
  14. Ok I got the Hot Rod 12 circuit mini fuse panel kit from a vendor on Ebay. I tore into it tonight, checking every wire for the number, color, and description. When I got done, I entered the information into an Excel spreadsheet and organized them ascending. Well it turns out several wire numbers are missing. For example: 1 Red-Headlight Power 3 Black-AC/Heat Power 6 Red-Radio Constant Power 7 Dark Blue-Wiper Power 9 Red-Gauge Power See how 2, 4, 5, and 8 are missing? And that's just part of the whole harness. I don't know if maybe some of the numbers that are missing aren't there because it's only a 12 circuit kit or what. If anyone has used the 12 circuit and has can shed some light on that I'd appreciate it. I can understand missing 1 or 2 wires maybe, but not a whole buttload like that.

    EZ Wiring question

Hi everyone, Couple quick questions on the EZ Wiring 21 circuit harness. Basically, these are made for GM cars, right? so would i need a GM ignition or any GM electrical parts? Also, is wiring the turn signal/headlight stalk easy? Thanks.
  16. Tired of chasing/bandaging wiring so I bought an ezwiring kit. Looking over the car I was wondering what needs to go to the ecu? Where did you guys put your fusebox when the stock ecu is in the ideal position. Thanks for your time guys.

    EZ wiring

Sorry if this has been asked before. I didn’t find it in the search Has anyone used the EZ Wiring on there 280zx? I have an 81 280zx with a 302 in it. Got it on for one heck of a deal. But the wiring under the hood and in the dash is kind of cut up. Found the painless system and have reading all the post about it and was told about EZ Wiring for a lot less then I can get the other one for and was wondering if it was as good and as easy as the other. Thanks in advance for you time. Pearl
  18. i just ran across another kit called ez wiring they have a 18 fuse 21 circuit for $165. the web site is http://www.ezwiring.com/ i saw an article for this in the rod and customs magazine. if i remember correctly the painles kit is over $300 so this kit is half the price. chris
